I want to continue my sub with EVE and play 4ever, but I can't/won't unless the lag is reduced throughout the game. I realize that I would actually be helping if I left(no you can't have my stuff, I'd trash it :\) but like I said I love the game and want to stay. I play other online games and none of them have near this level of desync/lag, which causes me to have a high fun factor.
Yes EVE's single persistent world is the coolest, but will that kill the game itself? I see/hear alot of talk on the forums/EVE TV etc. about how lag is used as a tactical manouever, which causes me to think that poeple are more worried about winning "the battle" or anything/something than how much fun they are having, are they the same thing?
I could go on all day, but I feel like I already have...sorry for the rant guys/gals and thanks for the game CCP gang...later o/

What are your system stats? Often your own computer lags at some times and you blame all the lag on the servers.

If you live in Caldari space, you may want to consider moving somewhere else - lag is much better in Minmatar or Amarr space.

The lag in this game is client side, not server side. This means that the lag is caused by your computer, not the amount of people. I know this because I have pretty good system specs and only have lag after playing for awhile (most likely caused by a hot graphics card).

uhhh...right
Anyone with a cognitive response is still welcome to respond...
the real reason I originally posted was really because I was hoping someone might have something inciteful/hopeful to add about a problem that has grown since the 2 yrs I've been playing. I was just hoping EVE could someday be as lag free as other games that I play online, even in very large groups, no matter what yer doing... is that even possible? I don't know...

Yeah, not being able to load a grid for five-ten minutes is client lag.

The lag isn't present throughout the game. There are a few Empire systems (Jita/Saila/Motsu and maybe a couple more) that are persistently lagged because players choose to congregate there despite all the advice not to.
Then there is lag out in 0.0 during large fleet battles.
Other than that most people don't experience significant lag. Maybe once in a while you get half a second's delay activating a module but that's it.
Unfortunately in order to counter the places where lag does regularly occur CCP need to find someway to dissuade players from congregating in such large amounts. If they don't then adding more hardware and even sharing systems across nodes will not be enough. The numbers will just increase to compensate. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

or maybe let people all sit in the same system, and have the servers take horsepower away from the 70% of the rest of the galaxy that is empty. Have the servers focus their number crunching on where all the action is happening.

Edited by: Niccolado Starwalker on 24/09/2007 07:49:57 I have only lag in Jita and its surrounding and in fleet battles. Besides that, EVE is fine for me.
So my question to you would be, what system are you in? I have seen most people who complain about lag are most of the time situated in Jita, or Luminaire or other hot spots, where lag is always present due to the overcrowding. And the only way CCP can do something about that lag is to star chucking people out of the system...

When oh when will CCP stop these pointless delaying tactics?
Here, CCP, I will even write the code for you:
IF lag>0 THEN LET lag=0
There now, that wasn't so hard was it? Please add that to the codebase during today's DT so that EvE will be lag-free when I get back from college.
Many thanks,
Mal

There is lag in Jita, and there is lag in large fleet battles (60v60 and above). If you are experiencing lag in other situations on a regular basis, the problem is with your computer, not with Eve. Cause most of us do not.

That's a very strong statement...you should really avoid those when you have no idea what you're talking about. There are plenty of instances of client side lag but the issues most people complain about are indeed server side and are related either to the crazy number of people and drones on one grid during large fleet engagements or the ridiculous numbers of NPC's spawned in missions hubs like Saila. Presently server side lag makes large fleet engagements distinctly unenjoyable as modules take 5 plus minutes to activate and it can take 10 or more minutes to enter a system.

Yeah, lag is in relation to the amount of people in the system. Just avoid places like Jita.

Try doing it with the map screen open and have a look at the difference, then tell me that its not at least partly client side.... |
