I'm a returning player from a looong time ago (I quit around the time CCP introduced tech 2), and i'm having some problems.
When I left, probes didn't exist yet, so safe spots and missions were for the most part safe. However, since i've returned, i've lost 3 myrmidons trying to mission. Each time its been 3-4 pirates to me, and they haven't even tried to ransom me. Since they warp on top of me, I don't have time to get out, and while I try to keep an eye on local, I believe that several of the characters in the system are alts of said pirates, as they are in noob corps and are only a few days old at most.
My question is, what can I do to protect myself? I'm not that far off from learning to use a cloak, so thats an option. I just want some way to either fight back, or escape. Warp stabs aren't an option since its always so many people to just me. More people out there missioning could be an option, but that severely limits my playtime since it is dependent on when other people decide to play.
Right now i'm just frustrated at the complete waste of ISK. I'm not using tech 2 stuff for the most part, so profit is minimal. However, I can't maintain this pace of attrition much longer without running out of ISK and being forced to.... mine .
Thanks for the suggestions. ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

i think in deadspace mission cloak doesn't work...
keep your scanner open and click refresh every 5 seconds and if you see real player coming... run?

Edited by: Lilin on 24/09/2007 22:48:30 Well, in a deadspace mission they can't jump me, now can they? :)
Note : I don't mind a good one on one fight. I don't mind losing those either. It would be more apt to say run when several other players come :P ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

Try a few missions in high sec (greater than 0.5), or you could put an eccm mod on your ship which makes it more difficult for them to scan you down, but then you also have the option of running the moment you see someone warp in on top of you...

So, there isn't really a solution here is there?
That means when I get to 8.0 with Ishukone for my JC I probably won't mission anymore, since this part of the game seems alittle broken. ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

ok this is what you want to do...
keep an eye on local. see who drops from local when the pirates login. add them to your peeps and places.
NOW! set the offending pirates corps to -10 and add the said members to your peeps and places.
with any luck this will happen...
you do a mission....
alt logs off and you take note... then see pirate login or jump into system, you then dock or better yet safe spot and cloak, let them try and hunt you down hur hur hur.
what faction you do missions for?

As I mentioned earlier, Ishukone. It should also be noted that while this DOES work (it saved me last night actually), its just a stop gag. The second that I undock and go back, they come back in system. I played tag for 2 hours last night with a pie before getting frustrated and going to bed. ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

Seriously, if you don't want to fight against overwhelming odds of PCs and NPCs at the same time do your missions in HighSec. CCP says this is working as intended.....

Seems to me it's working great. You being invulnerable so several people hunting you would be the game being broken. If you want relative safety, run missions in a high sec system.

I'm not asking for invunerability, just for some way to fight back or protect myself so that 4 people can't totally stop me in my tracks for an hour, and set me back 2-3 nights of uninterrupted missioning to get back to where I was cash wise. ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

Geez some people can be real asses...
Anyways quick tip. Drones are MEGA easy to probe down, player ships are a bit harder. That's the real painful part as I'm guessing you are using drones with your myrm.
That being said, your real option is really to either get a gang of people and do missions in a group, or find a high sec agent. There isn't much of a difference between high sec and low sec agents. Not enough to justify 3 blown up ships in a week anyways.
PS loot/blowup/salvage those wrecks, they make you easier to track down.

1) Quit the game again 2) Go play WoW 3) -Insert another stupid advice here-
EVE forums are not exactly the best place to ask for advice. Most of the time you will be trolled and flammed by the "PVP"-ers (gankers, griefers etc etc) when you try to do so.

And to the flamers, perhaps you should spend more time in stations. I believe floating out in space for too long has withered your social skills down to nothing. ----------------------------------------------- A computer is like an air-conditioner, as soon as you open Windows, it stops working.

If you're alone and you're in low-sec/0.0, 4 people (who aren't idiots) will always be able to at the least keep you from missioning effectively, if they want to. And they should be able to do that.
There are many ways to avoid losing your ship, but they will be able to keep you from running your missions if they are determined in their hunt. I suggest running missions in high sec if you want to do it in relative peace. Alternatively, get a gang of corp mates together and kill the pirates a few times.

Well if your Missioning in the Tamo area (bunch of Watch agents there and such), give me a ring, I do missions around there too.
But watch local, and your scanner. Scan every minute or so, and keep tabs on people (you can kinda geuss whos in what after awhile).
Also, you can chatt in local and see if you can make friends with the locals \o/

Tips for avoiding interruptions in missions:
1. Maximise sensor strength, minimise signature radius. That means avoid setups dependent on shield extenders, and don't overdo your (shield) tank. If you can afford to drop a hardener and fit ECCM then do it.
2. Avoid drones. Contrary to popular opinion, they aren't inherently easier to probe down, but if you use them I have 6 targets to scan for instead of one (and they appear easier because 5 of the 6 possible results are drones).
3. Move away from the warp in point. If you sit on the beacon then I have no problem scrambling you. If you move 40km+ away then I need a specialised ship.
4. Align out of the mission. If it means you drift out of optimal then have two warp out points and bounce backwards and forwards between aligning for one then the other.
5. Use your scanner. As a pirate I have to keep an eye on it all the time so I can get out if I'm being baited or blobbed. You don't get it any easier I'm afraid. If you see a ship within 15,000km (or even within 1au) then you're better off being somewhere else.
6. Cloaks are useless. You'll take longer to do your mission sue to longer lock times, resulting in more time for a successful scan result, and you can't cloak if even a single ship has you locked.
I only give these tips because human nature will ensure I still get targets, and my philosophy is that those sensible enough to listen deserve the discount. _____________________________________________

Join a corp. Join intel channels, find some people that will help you
It's all basic stuff mate. 3-4 pirates work together to bust your mission spot. I can only suggest you open you scanner once in a while and look for probes, or talk to 3-4 corp mates that may cover your back when attacked
I was running missions to get my sec up a little while ago. The system I ran them in was inhabited by an anti pirate alliance, that made things tough. The real problem however, were the nasty piwats, who knew how to scan out mission runners
DSOTM, you are good at what you do ..but in that time, I was never killed, even in a fat slow warping tempest. There are many ways to avoid getting ganked in missions.
Best way to learn ..is to probe out and gamk some mission runners yourself, then you will see how it works
Heres my first tip for free...when you jump through an acceleration gate, drop a can.
That way, any nasty cloaking tacklers will be decloaked and you can make your merry way out of there

Are you being sarcastic, its hard to tell these days
But seriously, if you want to know how to avoid getting ganked in mission, then go and try gank some mission runners, and see where their mistake was.
Sitting on the warp in...crazy. Not aligned...suicidal in a BS Not watching for probes..careless. And of course, assuming that a mission is safe = death
ALWAYS assume that someone is probing you out, even if you cant see them on scan.
