This might already be in a topic somewhere or even have it's own topic and thus it'll make me look stupid, but ..what the hey, here goes nothing:
I was blown away but THIS piece of genius art, and thought I'd share it with the rest of you Enjoy!
you do realize all this guy is doing is tracing and duplicating a screen shot of a wyvern right?

Tracing on pc and tracing on paper are way entirely two different ballparks.
The guy know what he is doing when it comes to useing the software and using multiplicity to do the highlights instead of different colors to change the surfaces of the picture.

Its still impressive having the wyvern slowly take shape from the blobs of colors to the ship that it is.
Screenshot reference or not, he's good with the tablet and the software, and it shows. -

That is seriously sick, even if he tracked it, he definitely knew what he was doing. Viewing it time lapsed like that was cool as well. ---------- I gave up on sigs. As all the beatings from the abusive mods are starting to hurt and leave nasty bruises. |

dude all he did was open a screenshot of a system bacground and used the Photoshop dupe tool.
He then opened a picture of a wyvern that he had smart selected out of a screenshot. He then pulled off the essence of cut and paste...bottom line, theres nothing elaborate to see here. Go away with your "omg hes so talented" crap.

He is talented though :) Not to mention it is rather "omg" as he is infact drawing it, shading it and making it from scratch from a weird color blob If you don't think it's an impressive feat, then thats fine, but don't go off on others for not agreeing with you.

Boy you sure are "special."
You people screaming "OMG FAEK LOL" or "OMG TRACEZED LOL" should actually WATCH the video. The so called "original screenshot" isn't even from the same direction or the same size. And the people saying "FAEK" need to learn2watchvideo. CLEARLY he CREATED the image as you can witness in the video, you're prolly just too computer illiterate to know how to do it.
Just because you can only use the paintbucket tool in Photoshop doesn't mean that everyone is as handicapped as you. Envious little brats. |

m8, i do this for a living as a reprographic artist and have done for nearly 20 years. there's nothing special about it, i've taught many people to do it at work.
Using photoshop even with a slight degree of knowledge can produce artwork that is amazing to people who don't know what capabilities it has.
This took 30 seconds from a screenshot:
Look familiar???

Ok dude, let it go.
His process displays an odd way of constructing an image with strong perspective but not impossible.
If it's a paintover or trace I didn't see any sign of it in the video. What this is certainly not is a cheap watercolour filter over a screen shot. You can clearly see the painting process in action.
Feel free to crit or post your opinions but even if you don't like the pic, demeaning the effort the artist has put in is not polite. -

It's very impressive. I like the shading and the fact that it was hand drawn. The entire process itself was fascinating to watch.

He obviously used the screenshot as a reference - he didn't trace it. Understandable since the design of the ship isn't his own.
Very impressive.

BTW if you check his castle video you'll see that he's not amazingly talented, he's just better than most of us just as already stated.
Leave that "OMG this is so cool!!!" to CGtalk, thank you. CG artists in general do NOT need a pat in the back, they need constructive criticism to become better over time. -

Wacom is basically the industry standard. there's cheaper items, but you get what you pay for.

I already own a wacom tablet its not the best, fails at tracing my own drawings, it would be neat if it had a screen itself on it.
Anyways This isnt a trace drawing if you notice on the refrence and final product the 'rear' end of the ship are about 15 degrees off from each other to the point you can clearly see it way off. He used the reference picture to lay down the proper highlights and shades, although this overall doesnt take to much skill to do, the understanding behind the process takes time to learn. Not everyone understands that shading doesnt involve changing or adding color to the affected product but to harmonize with its light and lack of light sources.
However thanks to him I may have picked up a few techniques I'll be attempting a CGI of my caldari lander in my last post in the same methood he uses i already got the space clouds and star drop done and slapped down the dark blue blotch for the ship itself ill be butchering it this weekend and post my results when im done if you dont know what ship im talking about heres the pictre of it again.

Any ways yes I am an artist struggeling on translating my paper works into a digital media the software and hardware is exepsensive and learning the best parts takes a long time, overall this work is probably a 7 out of 10 area of effort and talent in cgi works far above my 2 out of 10. Its not a professional grade work but closely resembels it.

Well, of course they make a variety of models, but most cg artists w/ disagree w/ you about your first comment regarding wacom. They do in fact offer a model that is also a display, i think its called 'intuos' or something like that. But yeah, that's like the mecca in 'equipment cg'rs want'......but will set you back around 3-4 grand. Point being though, if you got the money, wacom's as good as it gets in regard to tablets.
In regard to your struggle, only advice i can throw you're way is to just keep at it and practice. I know the cost of some app's can be rather prohibitive, but it's better to just buy them than use warez stuff. Reason being is that it's much easier to motivate yourself to learn all you can about an app. when you need to justify the fact that it's raped your wallet.
Anyway, good luck in your efforts.
And to make a comment to the actual thread =p. W/ enough practice & knowhow, yeah this stuffs not that hard. But it still takes a degree of talent & work, & a lot of practice to get there, and it's still impressive work.
