The old textures will get deleted though, so the game folder shouldn't get that much bigger.

You shouldn't be playing MMO's if you're not prepared for the patch downloads, to be quite frank. The 'classic' client, will probably have a small update (under 100mb?). The new DX9 client will probably be upwards of 1.5GB, purely because of the textures, and no amount of wizardry is going to get that below 500mb. ---

hmm, 2c per MB -> $40. Oops.
Well I would _definitly_ prefer DVD version.

CCP will introduce a new patching system with Revelations III to support more frequent patching. It will probably support BitTorrent protocol and have a resume function.
Also, there will be no "classic" client, only the new DX9 one.

Ummm don't use 56k? Assuming they limit it at 1 meg/sec thats 2000 seconds, or 34 minutes. That's half downtime.
1 MB s would be a 8 MB connection workign at 100%. Very few peopel outside US and europe can have such connections. And even on those places they are not exaclty ultra cheap. Most people will have around 1 Mbit connection or less. I for example pay 11% of my paycheck to get a 600 Kbit connection.

I seem to remember from somewhere on the site that CCP was going to be releasing a budget DVD for about $2.99ish to major retailers in a slipcase that will have RevIII and the new client on it.. Dunno if thats still in the works though..

Really? I was pretty sure they said we would have the option to pick either one. Or maybe that was just DX9 Vs DX10 build. But yeah, I would like to see BitToorent used as another means of getting the patch, because as far as I know and have read its gonna be big. Or at least let us down load it in increments over a few days.

It'll be worth it though, for sure.
The patch will most likely get a torrent release aswell, as has been mentioned, which means that you can 'resume' the download if your connection drops.

Implying that 600Kbit is slow? Hardly, 56k dial up is slow. I played EVE for over a year on 56k without any problems. (except patches) I finally was able to get wireless EVDO service, which is around 1.5Mb. It's like a dream come true after being on dial up for 10 years...damn US and their competition is bad laws.
But I hope they set it up a few days in advance so we can get it downloaded before hand, would be very nice. ---------- I gave up on sigs. As all the beatings from the abusive mods are starting to hurt and leave nasty bruises. |

You really proofs to have very bad understanding of how things really are. I worked in an MMO development in past, and the bandwidth that ANY company reserve for each costumer online is FAR FAR lower than that, usually around 80-100 kb/s.
Also While playing eve i have ZERO LAG influence if i am doign nothing else or downloading a lot of stuff and using 90% of my Bandwidth with the downloads. So no go study a little bit of how things are done before speaking so much crap.
