Every week in the Warp Drive Active PodCast Winterblink (The Canadian) and Urban Mongral (the Brit) will bring you the goings on in EVE (except for the stuff we miss, forget or deliberately ignore).
Warp Drive Active Podcast is part of the VirginWorlds Podcast Collective
Click here to listen/download Episode 14
Show 14, better late than never! Urban has moved house and hasn't ironed all the bugs out of his sound setup yet (It does get better during the course of the show though) He suffers in work from a horrible obsolete programming language.
Huge scrap in XID between BOB and Redswarm, BOB gives a pep talk to R I S E, It doesn't to have done a whole lot of good though.
In the constant madness of the North, it looks like Fallen Souls have been kicked out everywhere they used to own up there.
EVE university gets a load of war dec's from people who get a kick out of killing noobs!
At the request of Wilhelm we do a noob guide to tanking. For more information check out the excellent EVE Tanking made by Nyphur.
For homework this week, Blinky chooses a bit of classic Anime Voices of a Distant Star by Makoto Shinkai.
EVETV Episode 13 is free We hope this is the start of things to come. We also like the Brightcove player a lot more than the Jalipo player.
The Sisters of EVE Fanfest passes are out! Let your spouse escape the uber geekness in the convention centre!
Beyond that, just the usual random sidetrackage, gibbering and tinfoil hattery.
Lead out tune "What a Beautiful Day" by Levellers.

Congratulations on another great podcast, and getting my name right .
However, I would like to call you on Minmatar ships shield tanking. Not all do, we have both armour and shield tanking ships in our line up (just another area where we have to do more work than the other 3 races to be on a level playing field!)
Not that I mind the extra training time much, 'cos when I train up for other ships, I just need the spaceship command and racial gun skills, then I'm set .

Hopefully the mods won't play with this one

Oh we by no means cavort around claiming this to be a definitive guide to tanking. :) Just a very basic one for those who might not know the foundation stuff. There's all sorts of complexities with different races and different ships for a particular race (as you say, Minmatar can do both-ish).
Just meant to give folks a taste. :)

One of those fun hidden thingies that isn't documented in the game. Once you figure it out, you'll find your setups can become far more efficient, fitting-wise.

EPIC BUMPAGE! I WAS IN THE PODCAST! WOOT WOOT!
Voices went right to the top of my Netflix que, just behind volume 2 of Black Lagoon. I'm curious if anyone's seen The Place Promised in our Early Days, for some reason the description of Voices reminded me of it.
I must also express profound disappointment that you, Winterblink, as a self-professed anime fan, have not seen Martian Successor Nadesico. That would help you to pronounce my character's name correctly, I think, and it's also highly entertaining as a complete send-up mockery of Giant Robot Anime.
Also, not to overstay my welcome, but as a Minmatar character I must also point out that it's difficult to pigeonhole our tanking preferences, as half our ships have far more low slots than mids (Hurricane, Rupture, Typhoon), but our only two ships with tanking bonuses both get them to shields (Cyclone and Maelstrom).
Perhaps a n00b guide, "So you want to play Minmatar" Otherwise, entertaining as always fellas!

To be fair, I should point out that it was I who messed up the pronunciation of your name, not Winterblink. My apolgies for this though.
I've heard quite a few people saying good things about Voices, so I'm looking forward to checking it out when Amazon finally gets around to sending the DVD to me.
As for the noob guide, as we said it was just the basic's and certainly should not be taken as a complete guide. However I think we can all agree that the Typhoon is a pretty damn strange ship though and through. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

One thing I forgot to mention...
Since you stated several times in both the podcast and this thread that your tanking guide was the ultimate end all and final authority on tanking, I am surprised that you did not talk about shuttle tanking.
Many times I have been nearly invulnerable in a shuttle due to its speed and low sig radius. Although to be fair I will admit you did talk about flying so fast you can't be hit. Still, shuttle tanking is not to be underestimated as a good PVP tactic.
However I have forgiven you for this oversight and as such, will keep listening.
You may proceed with further episodes. |

I'm curious myself about speed-tanking, I fly minmatar and usually shield tank, as Im a noob and thats where my skills are (engineering). When I've filled my high slots with guns and my mids with shield mods plus the almost obligatory AB/MWD I'm usually struggling to find stuff to fit out the lows, seems your either stuck with gyrostabilizers etc for damage or overdrive injectors and nanofibre for speed. After to listen to you guys I'm wondering if it's such a good idea to combine shields with speed, maybe i'm better off fitting for damage. I usually fly tech 1 cruisers or BC's (rupture, stabber, cyclone, hurricane) anyone have any advice. I've heard if you want to speed tank properly you need expensive implants, is this true?

For speed tanking, you generally use Shield extenders (and scram) in the mid slots and speed mods in the lows. Don't go within 10k of your target, and keep your transversal velocity up (i.e. keep traveling across the target ship at high speed the turret tracking guide in ships and modules forums is very useful to explain this).
Anyway, I'm sure that our podcast hosts will cover htis in more detail next week.

Actually, given the increased range that webbers can reach when overloaded, you may want to change that to keep out of 14KM of your target instead of 10KM.

Yeah, I downloaded Skype, to phone in, but I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say. Apart from the obligatory, never ending stream of isk to my account and maxed out skills for REV 3 (never going to happen unfortunately) the only other think in the blog that really grabs my attention is the cruiser interdictor (will be training dictor to 4 in preparation for the patch in November / December / whenever they get it out).

ep14 is another good'un guys.
I believe I may be the saddest WDA listener in the sense that I burn the thing to CD (oldskool!) the second it comes out and then proceed to listen to it times uncounted in the car until the next edition. My journey to work takes me at least 1hr15 every day, so by the end of the week I pretty much know the episode word for word.
Can I have a WDA award for saddest (but most appreciative) listener?

Well after prolonged discussion with the WDA awards committie (Obsessive fan division), I'm afraid to tell you that your current level of obsession isn't excessive to warrent giving you the award.
All is not lost however
The committe deceided that you would get the award if you were to record it every week onto one of Edison's wax cylinders, paint the image of the WDA logo on your chest and run along crowded streets playing it at full volume. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I finally broke down and listened to this podcast as my initiation into the WDA Podcast, after much grumbling and procrastinatory avoidance for reasons I can't quite recall.
I love the comic after all, why wouldn't I love something that bears the same name? (and here we see the reason for successful brand merchandising. How could I have fallen into such a trap?)
Anyway, the superfluous inane banter, among general advice and tidbits of galactic news - thrown in with, of course, speculations that spiral into more enjoyable-from-afar insanity - makes for good listening. It's one of those podcasts that makes me want to just sit in front of my computer and do nothing but listen to the pair of voices spilling from my headphones. It's one of those podcasts that aren't just fodder for background noise while taking care of any one of a thousand other tasks. It's one of those podcasts that are engaging and intriguing, while remaining amusingly self-deprecating and humble. It's good. I'd listen to it again, but I have fourteen more to catch up on.

I have to say that listening to EP 13 nearly lost me my ratting ship. I was quite happily off TS ratting away, and only realized that Pandemic Legion had turned up, when one of them helpfully typed "Hostiles in Local". Luckily for me they hadn't hit the belts, just the station, so I panic warped to a planet, then to a pos. SO let that be a waring to you. WDA could be harmful to your ship's health.
I don't log into eve when listening to you guys any more

Ok guys, due to the disturbing lack of a WDA Ep-15 podcast to DL, I am calling on my podcast listening brethren for drastic measures.
Those of you with an Xbox, Xbox Live, adn Halo 3, I would like you to do the following:
Step1) Get on Winterblink's friends list. Step 2) Get on Halo 3 game with him. Step 3) Locate the guy who sounds like Mongral. Step 4) Proceed to kill his Halo 3 character on site (irrelevant of team) until WDA Ep-15 is edited and uploaded. Step4) ?????? Step 5) Profit

Think of it this way, if next week's is on time you'll get two really close to each other. :)

Rabble rabble rabble. :)
Nah seriously guys of course rl takes precidence (sp?) over a podcast for an internet spaceships game.
I would comment tho that the only reason folk are yammering for this is that you have done an excellent job so far and I and many others eagerly look forward to it now.

I have recently discovered Warp Drive Active! It's a great podcast you guys really put on a good show. I love to fly my ship and listen to a WDA. I'm catching up on episodes, I have almost listened to them all. Looking forward to more!

Sorry for the rabblige, we are just having withdrawl symptoms from such an unbelievably awesome podcast series.
OFC RL takes precedence, and assuming 16 is on time, I will have 2 podcasts to listen to next week
Akkarin Hopefully the mods won't play with this one

Untrue!! Nothing is more important than internet spaceships. I recall Spiraljunkie informing us that it was very serious business, those internet spaceships.
This is however a bad time for me, I was using the podcast as a food replacement for my diet. Since it's late I've gorged on carb loaded and fat laden food. Thus I've proved that dieting just doesn't work. :D I have a hankering for some Rotten Ronnie's. :D Scrapheap fun on Bombs: Takahashi: Atm you're essentially "firing the equivalent of a Ferox"
Dixon: Letting people fire actual Ferox's would be nice... it'd make them almost useful. |

Nice one, and thanks. :)
Both Urban and I are getting beat to hell by work, so I have no idea what the status is of 15, if it's been finished off and submitted or not. But I've not been entirely unproductive. If you'd like something new to stare at, I reworked my personal site with a new theme. Also, I was really sneaky and stuck a RSS feed on the comic site for updates there, essentially just tied to my blog's comic category.
It's no podcast though, but... :P

My understanding is that Mongral actually edits the 4+ hours of random meanderings into the 1.5 hours(ish) of podcast. As he has been very quiet on the forums, assume that he is having some sort of connection issues. If that is the case, the podcast may be ready to go, but he is unable to get it to Brent of the Virginworlds MMO collective.
Either that or RL is preventing him from doing the edit. Anyway, I get Halo 3 early next week, so I shall be patient, and I'll keep bumping untill I have an episode 15 thread to bump

I'd prefer 2 separate episodes, because then I get 2 awesome intros, but whatever the (not so bountiful atm ) WDA podcast gods decide will make me a happy bunny.
