Yes, I did the ol' eve search and couldn't find anything compelling. I've mainly only seen the occasional comment about this. I don't recall a whole thread.
So I KNOW this is doable, and it makes total sense... after all with all those mids I can run a whole deck of cap rechargers and repair like wild... HOWEVER... with the torp launchers the ship doesnt really have the power to run even one of the large T2 reppers...
Goofing around with it I managed to put 3 t2 medium reps and 2 hardeners on it, but that's fairly low resists and only 100 armor repaired per second. That is indefinite, however with 75% cap... vs. my shield setup which repairs 200 shield per second, higher resists but can only maintain that repair cycle for 4 minutes or so.
Any thoughts or discussion would be much appreciated.

Only time it might make sense to armor tank a raven, would be vs sansha rats. Or PvP if you fit sensor damps.
And even for Sansha's, the best T2 setup I can come with is still worse than the cookie cutter shield setup. And has no dmg mods. But tanks just under 800 dps of type EM / Therm indeffinetly. Oh, and you need AWU5 to fit it.
Compare that to the basic T2 raven setup which will tank ~650 dps with a large buffer to help you manage your cap, it means you can effectively tank around 1000 dps.

a shield tank leaves your lows for DCU/PDU and most importantly damage mods!

Armour tank = not enough room for BCUs = crap damage...

Yeah, you better know what you're doing before trying to armor tank the Raven. ANd besides, you do gimp your DPS output. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

OP, maybe using cruise launchers will help your grid problem. Using one large repper will open up 2 slots for hardeners making your tank viable.
That aside it really only makes sense if you use the mids for webs/painters to make up for the damage lost because you dont have BCUs, but that only works if you run into lots of smaller ships and want to torpedo them.

The days of dual-MWD armour tanking damp fitted torp ravens are long over.
Shield tank it or use a e-war ship. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |
