With the changes to sovereignity, it would be extremely amusing AND interesting to allow the alliances to give a name to their constellation capitals.
After all, hasn't this happened with the colonization, centuries ago? 0.0 is after all, "new" space which is colonized by corporations and factions, and if there's a system named Serpentis Prime... why can't we have a, say, a system named Goon Prime, or a Distillery system (for our Iac brosefs).
To avoid smack/coarse language, after obtaining Sov 4 the alliance leader could simply contact a GM telling him the new system name, and the change kicks in after downtime. The system keeps that name until another alliance claims Sov 4 and wants to change it.
Easy to implement (I think), and would add a little but substantial amount of depth to the game. It would be much inspiring to fight for a system with a name rather than a bunch of letters and numbers mashed on a keyboard.
ADDENDUM: I don't know how the EVE database works but I'm hoping it won't be too hard/impossible to do.

I would actually say make the name permanent, allows the mark of dead alliances to persist. Then again, I believe in the same thing for outposts.

this again?! spamming the idea will not get it though. and once more NO. after seeing the ridicules names players give there stations i would really hate to see a constellation named with something idiotic. _____ _____ "When the moderators are gone, the trolls dances on the table." |

Well, changing outposts names is pretty much one of the first aspects of the new "rule" in the area...

Edited by: Trishan on 27/09/2007 17:13:18 Don't see why not as long as:
- The original, canonical, is still always valid - The GM has to approve or reject it with a simple Approved or Denied and no further explanations to avoid silly endless arguments. - There's some delay; 3 months of sov 4 and since the last name change before you can change name to avoid FOTM name flipping.

I don't see why the name couldn't be permanent if theres only one per constelation then I don't see the issue, people in the area will learn the name pretty fast and the capital of a constelation would be pretty obvious too. Beets, you're among friends. |

Because the next sov holder will want to change the name too, and it would be unfair not to let them just because they got there in second place.

Great idea - I mean didn't a recent news post talk about allowing the alliances in the drone regions to name them ?
Personally if you want to spam silly stuff you can do that with the name of your ship, the wreck it leaves behind can have any stupid name you want.
As long as it can only be changed on sov change or maximum once every 3 months by the sov holders, and is submitted to CCP to check for offensive language etc I don't see any issue. Maybe have a character cap as well so that it is nothing stupidly long.

Wasnt there a city once called New Amsterdam once, that got taken away for whatever reason and was renamed to New York?
Sov 4 takes a long time to get from what I gather, I really don't see what the problem would be with being able to change a 0.0 system name after achieving it, regardless of if it's been named before. Just make sure the old 0.0 name can still be used as well.

SWEET now we can fly around systems in 0.0 called L0LP0W3NeD or __+MOrPH3US+__ or IRL337 or ****Vile
unless the system names are filtered and approved/denied by GM's I am 100% against it, hell I'm already against the ******** names of stations

While I myself also get very annoyed by the stupid names given to some of the outposts in game, I think that the entire concept of "claiming your own territory" should allow you the freedom to do...well, exactly this, for one.
I am highly in favour of this because it stimulates immersion in my eyes (Being able to colonize your space, naming it) but only if it goes through a GM beforehand to stop crude racial slurs, f art/***** jokes etc etc.
If we can stop the truly rude and juvenile names from appearing, I think it would be absolutely awesome to implement.
I for one wouldn't mind visiting "Swarm Citadel" or ..."New Kremlin" or even something undoubtedly Laconian from MC. ^_^
In fact, now that this is brought up: I'd be in favour of even more customizable features. You need to fight for Sov, make it so that you can individualize it. A statue greeting at a gate with a text of sorts, things like that.
Of course, if enemies take over, all of it needs to be editable. I'm not sure how I feel about complete annihilation of such investments, because that would stop alliances from actually constructing such things. Plus that it'll allow for certain "cultural" differences to evolve in different regions.
In short, the entire concept has grand potential. Which other MMORPG out there allows the playerbase to truly form their own colonized space? It'd be a major selling point. ----------------------

I indeed agree that 0.0 needs some more features except the occasional rats on the gates. A statue or a huge tv when entering a station system or a constellation capital would really improve the "feeling" of 0.0, just like a Concord Billboard. On the plus side, these improvements would really be easy to implement.

Looks like they want to name the drone regions... Imo, the inhabitants should name them, because they fought for that space and control it.

It gives RA an unfair advantage IMO, who would dare to fly into a system called RA Prime?
On a more serious note, good idea. With the restrictions mentioned earlier of course. ------------------------------------------------
