Halo 3 retails for 60$ US with the legendary going for 130$ US, where as a movie ticket costs 6.50-12$ US depending on location and time and the Harry Potter book goes for what 20-30$ US. A better way to compare the three would be based number of units sold on the opening day, not the revenue generated from opening day sales Unable to unanchor batteries? Halo3 brings in 170 mil at 60$ (going with no one buying the legendary pack) =2,833,333 units sold
Spider man 3 brought in 59.8 mil on its first day at 12$= 4,983,333 tickets sold Spider man 3 opening weekend 151 mil at 12$= 12,583,333 tickets sold
Comparing it that way Halo 3 seems to be lagging way behind
Revenue generated is the only accurate way to compare if u think about it. A movie is a fleeting event that lasts 2-3 hrs, so its going to cost way less. A game gives much more time/money than a movie or book.

Yes that is true. The number count of those that saw Star Wars when it opened - as a percentage of population would probably blow away more modern movies.
But still numbers are numbers. The game compelled alot more money out of wallets thn other releases. And comparing recent media releases is still fun. And to even weigh more on movie releases would be that many people do not go to movies anymore, they rather wait to rent movies on cable for home theatre systems or just their TV's, or eventually buy the movies on a DVD or see it free much later on TV. Then again, the ONLY people buying Halo 3 are those that own an Xbox 360 and already paid $350-$400 for the system! Movie sales would plummet if you had to buy a "membership card" that cost $400 - before you even bought a ticket!

If you're talking about A New Hope in 1977, then you'd be wrong. Very few people saw it when it first came out. But it was in theaters for over a year, maybe two, which was common at the time. It was only through word-of-mouth that it became the sensation that it is. Its opening day numbers were probably abysmal by any reconning. Also, it success was also based on repeat viewings. Since it was out so long, many die-hard fans saw it multiple times over many months, of which current movies no longer have the luxury.
Now, it's all about opening weekend numbers. Then in a few weeks the movie's gone. If you're lucky it'll show up at the budget theater. But back in the day it was all about longevity and staying power.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

All I can say about Halo 3 is totally disappointed by the ending. but oh well I guess Bungie just overplayed it too much and I was expecting some sort of amazing conclusion. --------------

Edited by: Buxaroo on 27/09/2007 13:49:28 I am probably one of the few people that has not played Halo, Halo 2, or this one. I don't really know much about them, but then again console games bore the **** out of me anyways. To each his own.
But in this day and age where instant gratification and "I gotta have it NOW" syndrome is the way of the land, I am not surprised it has sold so many copies in its debut. I wonder though how many are going to have buyers remorse .
ps, last console game I bought was for Sega Genesis.....PC rules

No, because the Halo series is good (and I agree that it is good. But that is all it is. It brings nothing new to the genre, yet leaves little more to be wanted. It's not as good as all the *******s hype surrounding it, and it's bringing alot of attention to the wrong aspects of gaming. Gaming shouldn't be about how much it made in the first week of sales, it should be about the innovations brought in through a way of telling a story in a very interactive way. ---

It's another brainless response from the wind spewing supposer who trouts around covering anything he says with a self proclaimed title - flame. Where nothing has any meaning, including the responses which when exposed to the title transmute into a statement of wasted time. All in a feeble attempt to hide his inability to create coherent communication or the understanding of such. If you have nothing to say, might as well tarnish all else.
Nice link to nothing and don't flatter yourself that you're worth the effort of 'following'. --------
