Here's the situation.
I uncloak, flying my pilgrim. I initiate my dual tracking disruptors. Enemy is closing. I deploy the drones. Enemy starts orbiting. I see his weapons going off, but no damage messages are coming up. I figure its server lag.
I try to deploy my drones again. All items are currently busy.
And then it happens. I get disconnected from Vent, XFire, and about 10 seconds later, the Eve Window closes. Connection to the server was disabled. I look at my roadrunner modem, the only light on is the power light. I reset the modem, log back in. I'm in a pod.
In all honesty, I did not ctrl-q, or exit the game intentionally. I am not going to petition, because it was on my end, not CCP's end.
EDIT: I only engage what I know I can kill, with about 90% certainty.
Should the kill-mail be posted, or not?

I'd say posting it would be the honourable thing to do even if it wasn't your fault, I'm just wishing it had been me on the other end

Yeah. Just add a comment to KM.
I once started a suicide attack on a mining barge and my PC chose the moment I opened fire to reset. I logged back on and both of us were sitting in the belt in our pods. Nearly ruptured internal organs laughing about it.

Why? Because he is worried about his reputation, even in a game?
What is so bad about that? If anything it is one of the best things about Eve. It is one of the main consequences of the single server nature of this game.
I have far more time for people who are willing to question how their actions may affect how they are pervceived in a community they care about, than those who spend far too much time trying to explain to us why we should not care about the community at all.
It may be "only an internet spaceships game", but it isn't just you playing. There are real people sharing this experience with you, and some of us know how to behave "in public".

I don't bother posting losses to NPC's where there are no players involved and generally i tell corp members not to bother posting them either but i guess its personal choice :) ---------

Post the mail. No matter whats the situation if you dont post it but somebody sees it some other kb - well how does it look? You will be flagged as logoffski or kb-cheater. If you post it theres nothing more you could've done to rectify the situation.
And plz. do not petition it as some people here say. From your story theres absolutely nothing that indicates a server problem or smthg(you got dropped from vent/xfire first - so its an isp thing). With all due respect petitioning such losses is for namby-pambies and sour losers.

I was scouting outside a station once in a stabber, in the middle of an enemy gang. I kept in dock range and I would just have docked if they opened fire. The thing was.. there was a thunderstorm going on here, and at some point the lightning struck nearby and BAM, no more internet. When I logged back on I was in a pod.
Well I posted it anyway but it sucked.

Post every lossmail that has players on it. If you wanna post losses to missions/rats be my guest. But the only ones people care about are when you kill, or are killed by, other players.

What? Have fun with that. It would seem that the fact that you're questioning it, to me anyway, means that it isn't all that important.
Besides where is 'Posting a Killmail' covered in the tutorial?

You got popped. I'd post the loss. Losing connection doesn't make his kill any less real. Certain members of KoS alliance loved to claim they got disconnected, or had lag, and used that as an excuse to not poss carrier loss mails. To put it mildly, I hold zero respect for KoS as an alliance.

Certain corporations/alliances/whatever have what is called a Killboard. Basically, it is something that is on a website, and shows different players kills and losses.

I once had a director who demanded all kill/loss KM's be posted, including that of NPC losses.
Embarrasingly, we all had to comply (some left because of this ludicrous requirement), because we were in a middle of a combat operation in lowsec.
The sudden influx of NPC lossmails crashed our killboard, and our CEO went "wtf?!".
Said director is no longer part of the corp.
On the idea of honor: its true that posting one's lossmail yourself proves that you are honest, which is a rare thing IRL, let alone EVE. Honesty goes a long way. End of. -

Posting NPC losses is pointless imo. The idea of a killboard crashing because of so many NPC losses is almost as pathetic as those losses making a killboard crash.

I highly recommend you uninstall now or switch to mining in high-sec if NPC's kill you so often it crashes your KB, I would NOT be talking about that to anyone. I would drink until that memory left me.
