About the 7k players on a single game world. Pasting from Waterthread:

...but Kingdom of the Winds had over 12,000 in one world back in 2000.

Raph is a bit out...
KotW, Nexon;1999: 12,263 simultaneous.
Edit: fwiw it never got above 2000 users simultaneously in the USA which is why nobody has probably heard of it. Its subs base was in Korea with over 60,000 accounts within record time in Korea alone.
Release was 1996 in Korea - 1998 in the USA.
(Confirmed the users and date also)

Nexon's Tactical Commanders probably has thousands at one world too, but the English version of such---Shattered Galaxy---has far less than that.
I still miss my Imps with flamethrowers from that game.

Personal experience, direct me towards one who doesn't cheat and I'll retire that sentiment.
The olympic games they hosted certainly didn't help their fair play image.

Lots n Lots of Koreans play video games....like cute little robots that can unleash an up,up,down,down,A,B,C+A,left,left,right,up,A+B+C on your butt and still have time to do Uber magic finishing move any day of the week.
Singapore got massive gamers. You slap the word fantasy on a cereal box and they will buy it off the selves.

I don't take anything Raph Koster has to say seriously.
He's the guy who single handedly destroyed Star Wars Galaxies.
The man should freakin do a Pokemon mmorpg...he'll be good at that. Raph Koster is a guy who know how to program games but don't know anything about creativity and game balance

No offense but the only people that can make a world record involving numbers of people are the Chinese... all they have to do is pass a mandate requiring all citizens to log on to a persistant world and stay on. Doesnt matter whats going on in the world or the lag, but they would have over 1,000,000,000 people in the same persistent world

Well then, seems like we have some ways to go..... However, since the game hasn't had a marketing campaign in asia yet, it might grow beyond that, as EVE DOES hold the record for western games i think...
When are we seeing more asian people in the game ccp?

You dont want asian people playing this game. Look what they did to diablo II and countless other games. Hacked beyond belief to where you couldnt even play them. Yeah i might sound racist, but its the true damnit. Just look at starcraft, that game was ruined by crazy asians.

No, Blizzard games are wrecked because the networking model Blizzard uses has remained pretty much the same from Starcrap to WoW.
Oh, and they din't ban cheaters. Which CCP (quietly) does.

I don't know if thats possitive, i have played Lineage (USA) for about 4 years and in those times a group of 400-600 korean players dominated the servers by clutching together and be very racist to others joining their pledge (corp). They wanted to annihilate all the americans and did every efford to do so, god if i was an 8 armed freak i wouldn't had the right ammount of fingers to count the many racist insults i had gotten on those servers. I was one of the known players that was EU player and still they called me a f***ing yankee, hillbilly, etc.
And if i asked them something they ignored you or say: me no speak english.
Sure there were some good guys, they were all in my pledge and we sieged every damn castle they owned. It went so far that there came an Anti Asia Alliance (AAA) to kill em off... Took em for 4 months constant sieges and attacking/pking/griefing to pull that off.
Thats why i love eve so much: There is amarr, caldari, minmatar and gallante. I haven't seen any corporations yet that called themselves proud 'nationality' and took it as their job to kill of people from specific other races. Only seen corps like sweden corp and dutch corps for people to help each other out, but not for server domination.

man eve would be so much better if it were faction based, with corporations based on races, and amarr in amarr ships, minmatar in minmatar ships, ect..
real amarr vs minmatar fights
real caldari vs gallante fights
pandora box is open on this of course, maybe one day if eve ever gets big enough they can do a spin off server for race wars and you could transfer your tranquility character over.. i'd be the first one to go ^-^

Well there are corps which accept people from one nation (or better with one language) only.
We XTrader for example only accept german speaking people. Yes, we softened it up a bit and accept austrian, bavarian and swiss people as well, but heck.
But the only reason is manageability. There are still some people that aren't fluent in english, so they need corpmates that are able to help them out.
Afaik the situation in the francophone part of this community is even more severe.
And to be honest there are differences between people from different cultures. But heck, you can use them.
If I need things to be organized and well thought up, I ask (some) of my german corpmates. If I want some advice in pvp, I ask someone from our american friends. If I wanna have a good relaxed time, I search for some french or polish guys. If I'm seeking for crazy jokes, scandinavians or Benelux ppl are the best place to start.
Every nation has its up and downsides, and best of all, you'll always find people that don't fit the grid.
Well, I'm still seeking for an organized, funny, non-triggerhappy american. But I still have hope

We have people from all over in our corp, UK, US, France, Croatia, and Aussies. Plus I bet I left some people out, sorry. The upshot is that it doesn't make a difference where you are from. In fact the only confusion I ever have is when someone(Miso) calls me a norty world I don't know.

IC PIE are kinda racist... We hate the Minmatars... Can just about tolerate Gallente wenches... and only grudgingly respect the Caldari
OOC PIE has a fantastic mix of players. A crazy Czech martial artist, a suicidal Belgian, two weird Dutchies  , a whole variety of Scandanavian nutcases from Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden & Denmark (there really IS something about Viking blood), a whole bunch of humourous, sarcastic and cynical Brits, a Canadian and another group of mature Americans who take things very seriously 
We all get on fine united in our common view of having fun and killing Minmatar terrorists (wherever they come from too)
