Edited by: Contralto on 01/10/2007 10:06:46 Heh! my pet subject!
I have used Sentry I's for over a year and found them very effective at range, Recently I finished sentries V and switched to TII's. yes there is a big difference, effective damage is far more than the just the 20% extra Dps they put out. add to this 20% better tracking and range and they become much more powerfull.
Gardes I's were almost useless before, due to a 20km optimal, poor tracking and mediocre Dps output. TII's on the other hand coupled with several omnidirectional tracking links can now take down BS, BC and even cruisers orbiting at 15 to 20km, and do it fast. They hit long after the 350mm or 425mm rails become useless. With the sharpshooter skill at V, they have an optimal of 36km , 43km or 52km, depending on the number of omnis fitted.
At the other end of the scale Warden II's have an optimal of 75km with no omnis and a whopping 129km with 3. Plus 30km falloff. requires 2 augmentors and 2 rigs though to use that range.
I fit my Domi's with 4 or 5 Dread Guristas 425mm rails with faction tungsten and 2 mag stab II's and a tracking enhancer II. Without exageration the Wardens will take down 2 BS for every one the rails manage at their respective optimals. I have BS V and all the applicable gunnery skills at lvl 4 and 5.
Using EFT confirms my own observations, the Wardens put out around 400 dps and the 4 rails 170 or thereabouts at 100km plus. The Gardes about 530 dps and the rails about 230 dps with Antimatter at 50km (2 mag stab II)
I should add that this is with 2 sentry damage rigs. which reduces the control range to 80km, using just one Augmentor in the last high.
I usually drop the 5th 425mm and fit a second augmentor to give 90 plus control range when using the sentry damage rigged Domi.
The long range setup Domi has 2 control range rigs and one damage rig with just the one augmentor, giving 110km control.
Tank? what tank? I fit 2 rat specific actives and a DCU II plus a medium repper, Rats dont do much damage at 110km. A good ab and light drones will take you clear of warp in aggro fast. I have a 611 sec cap recharge using just one TII charger. this is ample for the guns and Ab or med repper. (just not all at the same time)
I now carry 2 sets of Sentries (wardens for range plus rat specific) then a bunch of lights and mediums for any close orbiters. heavies are on vacation, RIP. too slow and vulnerable with the new trigger spawns.

Edited by: Contralto on 01/10/2007 11:37:43 Omnidirectional tracking links give a 20% increased optimal and they stack.
Warden II base optimal = 60km + 25% sharpshooter skill + 20% for 1 Omni = 90km
with 2 omnis = 108km
with 3 = 129.6
They instapop oncoming frigs and Dessies at 120 plus km and you see little difference in takedown speed on a BS at 120 or 80 km.

Edited by: Contralto on 01/10/2007 12:58:42 I assumed that they stacked purely through the damage they do at range, I switch to Gardes at 55km due to my calculated 52km optimal using 3 omni's. They hit hard at up to 60km then fizzle, Garde falloff is a meagre 12km.. but I have seen evidence of damage at ranges up to 90km but only a nudge into a frigs shields.
One thing to be aware of is the independence bug!! I need to tell them the desired target at least 3 times sometimes more, and if I let them auto aggro they will always go back to there prefered target after downing the one assigned.
This is fatal on the missions with triggers, they kill cruisers so fast that you can soon have all the spawns at once if you are not quick enough to tell them to orbit after the last of the current spawn is down. I used to scoop them until I had the new spawn locked but now I find the orbit command works just as well. hehe poor little dears trying their best to orbit at an indicated 1 m/s
Worst is that mission with the 4 cruisers that orbit at 20km and each is a trigger for the next chain. The wardens will pop one in 2 or 3, 4 second volleys if they get a good couple of shots. The Guardes and Bouncers in one.

just checked wardens on EFT it confirms akitas figures for stacking nerf and the additional tracking of the T2's over TI's
warden II 0.01883 optimal 117.699 km
Warden I's 0.01569 Optimal 98.083 km
both with sharpshooter lvl v and 3 omnis.
And for comparison purposes a 250mm T2 rail
0.0497 tracking with 3 T2 tracking comps. damage doesnt even start to compare though, even the 425mm with AM is half the Dps output.
explains how the Gardes destroy close orbiters.
