So I've just decided to quit mining part-time and go full time ratting and missions. I just sold my typhoon and am looking for a ship that can handle lvl3 / 4 missions, which my wolf can't really take all the time. So I was wondering which direction I should go in.
Battleship (other than phoon, which had too many options)? HAC (which is better for PvE)?

uhm tempest or maelstrom? could put large artys on either though most like the tempest.

Hurricane tears up level 3s. Level 4s you can either be adventurous and try the typhoon again (it's not easy, especially with low SP) or take the easy street and use the Maelstrom.

I prefer the Typhoon actually, wicked sized drone bay and nice tanker with a versatile slot layout.

For Level 3s a Hurricane is good. I find that an AC Hurricane with a 100MN AB is a really fun ship. For a safer bet go for a Arty 'cane or a Cyclone ( which has a better tank ). The Hurricane is clearly more fun than the Cyclone though.
For Level 4s I use an arty Maelstrom. The tank is very good and 8 guns means that the skill requirements is not too high. It is also easy to fit due to it's large powergrid. The Typhoon has a larger drone bay and a split weapon system but is a pain to fit, I suspect it is better for people with lots of skill points in drones/missiles.

Typhoon,for me is the best way, Drone Bay is nice (Hvy T2 for cruisers / BC / BS, and Light T2 for frigs), it have a good tank armor, and u can fit 4 torpedo for BS.
I run all lvl 4 with my phoons, and i rat in 0.0 too.

For lev 3 its bc's. more tank (cyclone) or more dmg (hurricane) is your choice.
For lev 4 its tank only but you have 2 choices:
- armor tank (phoon)
- shield tank (maelstorm)
for different resists. Dont bother with tempest. Its too weak for those most difficult missions (lots of dps and stuff)

L3: Hurry-cane (with 720mm)
L4: Tempest (1200mm or 1400mm, depending on skills and compromise)

so basically battleships are best? why not HACs? are HACs just better for pvp?
also, for those who recommended maelstrom or tempest, which setup is best? snipe setup (which i've used before and i find slow to get to items) or autocannons?

Either Minmatar HAC could tear up a level 3 mission, but neither would be as quick as a hurricane (except possibly a very expensive Muninn fitting). Neither HAC could safely do a level 4 mission, they simply don't have the tanking ability, unless you're running Sansha/Blood Raiders- Muninn might be fun for that, but slow compared to Maelstrom.
I don't recommend a Tempest for level 4s.
