The "charm" aspect is more of a psychopath trait. Sociopaths however tend to be as you said, "piece of crap."

Their are a lot of different flavors really.
I mean Serial Killer has a broad definition, all you need is 3 separate murders over the course of at least one month.
Reasons can very. Delusion, Deep Seeded Anger, Thrill, Sadistic or Sexual Gratification, Profit, Mercy or Perceived Mercy, Attention Seekingreally what ever floats your boat.
What did this guy do anyway.
Really though people are to quick to label someone one or the other when any number of personality types can go down this road. The thing is lack of Empathy for the specific targets which can be brought on by any number of things outside those disorders.
Not that many people without some level of Sociopathic / Psychopathic Behavior go that far though.
The entire subject creeps me out, if I start researching Serial Killers I am not going to sleep. I don't even like procedural Cop Shows on the subject. Serial Killer Episodes are my least favorite. |

I could start a ranting about this article now and derail your threat into oblivion. Maybe just one small thing: both terms are no longer used, and were merged into the term "anti-social personality disorder" in DSM-IV (actually, I think this even happened in DSM III already, but I am not really sure about this). The difference is intelligence. Some stupid, uneducated f+ck will not have the mental resources to cover up his personality disorder and thus behave like an out-of control hooligan. Intelligent people, however, do have this level of control. But those people are usually intelligent enough to find another vent for their hunger for power and mischief. Studies actually have proven that intelligent people with ASPD are drawn into politics and economics and make up a huge part of the so-called "elite" of today's society.

Studies actually have proven that intelligent people with ASPD are drawn into politics and economics and make up a huge part of the so-called "elite" of today's society. edit: @ Alara: He was doing drugs, getting high and killing people that he thought were easy targets and might have enough money to get him some more drugs. With a hammer, if I remember correctly. And of course, it was all society's fault, he felt like he was the only true victim here...
I thought the difference was the one type does it because he likes to do it, the other type doesn-¦t really care about killing people, but if it is an effective way to achieve his goal, he doesn-¦t really mind anyway. These are completely different attitudes and should be therefore different medical conditions as well. If you are just intelligent enough to choose a different way to satisfy your hunger, you are still a sociopath, just an intelligent one. If you are a psychopath, you don-¦t have a hunger for anything, you lack the inhibitions to hurt or kill someone but don-¦t go out of their way doing so. I could be mixing it up with something else though. "You either need less science fiction or more medication."

Makes sense. But DSM-IV has chosen a different definition.... vOv DSM-V will be out this year, I think, maybe they will change their concept of psychopathy again.
But please try to stay on topic. Derailing threads is only fun when I do it on purpose, and this thread actually could have some potential.
So, on topic, although there is a disturbing lack of similarity between Zimmy and Marla, I actually have grown on the avatar and quite like her. I know, the picture could be improved in many ways (remove the overused under-eye-stripe tattoo, get rid of the scar, equip moar NeX items (ok, joking))- but i like it as it is now with all its imperfections.

Went for the apprehensive, unsure, look which defines this character. Wanted a dash of cynical. a twist of mild irritation as well as a sprinkling of shyness, hence no eye contact. She likes to blend in with the crowd and would probably be running from the camera -in transit between destinations. She'd loathe to be the subject of any inquistion or even a simple question proffered. Out of shot her finger is pointed imperiously at someone else. "Ask him! Leave me alone".
This is a RP character, ex-slave, courtesy of the villainous Nefantar (Ammatar) so I wanted the look of her to describe somebody who has had negative attention doled out, but wants no more of it.
After the punk/huron/mohawk hair of the previous avatar, this I feel is better suited to her status as parent of two, one of which is a nice prop for the occasional RP 'do'. She's now more mellow, a bit older but not necessarily wiser.
Really pleased with it at last. |

TBH as I always do in MMO's I tried to create a potrait that looks something like me in RL.
Clothing I chose as 'urban streetwear' didn't really fit my concept and the background I chose to try and give the impression of being in a glass observation dome or something with space visible behind me.
I'm pretty happy with the final result.
