I'm not too sure if this would mess with the game balance too much but It'd be really cool if you could manage your characters skills from the web site so that you can keep your skills growing even while you are unable to log into the game....

It would be nice, but i think the game should be played FROM the game, and not a website...
Just my 5 cents....

I can understand the comment about the game being played from the game, because it does alter the level of immersion if it is to intermingled with real life. That said surely a web-based engine is also a client equal in status if not in power to the EVE client?

I see nothing wrong with adding this feature. It doesn't really diminish game play does it. It just gives those players who don't have alot of time to spend on the game to actually level up those low level skills while they are at work or some such.

I belive this would be a great help to all of us that do live in the real wrold and have to work alot. I know that my job requires me to be at work for days on end and I lose alot of valuable training, so the ability to login on the web and keep training a charater would possibly help CCP to keep more ppl playing EVE as well.

yes, this really needs to happen.
Not only would this be handy for regular players, but for people like me.
I started this game in january and half way through the free trial it stopped working. Didn't work for two whole weeks, then I forgot to cancel my account so I'm still here. The game started working for me so I kept my account active, but now I can't play again.
So it would be nice if I could at least train skills while the game doesn't work, so I don't feel like I'm paying for nothing. Two weeks of skill training lost is a lot for a new player.
On the same note, accessing EVEmail through the site would also be helpfull. Both for regular players and for people who can't get on to tell people they might not be able to run EVE for a week or so :/

I would be happy if I could just Cue up skills at this point. Let me schedule the next say 5 skills that I intend to train. another option would be for the skill you are working on to continue until you stop it, so at the very least the 1-3 level skills that end too easy would continue throughout the day.
Example: I start Medium Hybrid Turret before I leave for work at level 1 the first level would be done in a hour or so. and level 2 would kick in even if I was offline. and then level 3 after that automatically.
That way if something comes up in real life that prevents me from checking skills for a few days that one would run until either level 5is achieved or I stop it and start a new skill. "You've Got to be Nuckin Futs!!" |

To throw my vote into the fray. I think a feature that allows for either continuous, batched, or web based skill training is critical for Eve to grow as a game. Invariably what is happening is a biased in the galaxy for people who can log on frequently enough to keep training their characters. This creates an imbalance for others who can not make this level of commitment but who still want to enjoy the game and not be a "newbie" forever.
A side note I think that batching with continuous post batch is the best solution. A web based system would detract from the game in my opinion (though i would use it if I could) Since skills are gained via neural implantation then batching up a group of skills seems reasonable. Kind of like a CD changer. Also continuous makes sense because it again seems reasonable that once a skill is trained that someone would just stop training it if they didn't have to as it is not a new interface but rather a optimization of one that is happening. (I think)
Well, my $0.02. Katana

Edited by: Nau L'Olonais on 25/02/2004 22:33:29 I think this is a nice idea .
And even more , than the market should be manageable by internet too . He will become very more active , like a real market .
It will not mess with the game balance . It will just allow people to play more , and will procure several advantage to everyone :
-u can still manage ur skill and transaction when in hollyday . -u can kill time during ur day very usefully (for u and for the game )
Both people who don't play a lot and full time player will be advantaged . And the market will not be too slowed during the summer .
Edit : And even more , if u had killed all ur (work) unusefull time doing market and skill , u gain a lot of flying hours .
