meh, self destructing capitals is kinda lame but it has its purpose in denying the enemy your loot, though I think if you self destruct you should also be denied your insurance payout. If you want your insurance let the enemy have your loot, if your flying a pimped capital and need to self destruct to avoid leaving billions of isk to the enemy in loot, so be it but your going to take a hit to your wallet as well.
Self Destructing your ship to deny the enemy a killmail and avoid posting a lossmail is lame as hell though, you still took the loss and your enemy still helped kill you, kill/loss mails should still be sent imo and I dont care if people post place holder kms on killboards if the ship self destructed and indicating that it did.

As far as I can see it, the only reason why you would ever want to self destruct is to deny your enemy your mods. Not self destructing when you can self destruct would be much the same as just simply handing over your Estamel's and what not.
Now, self destructing to avoid a lossmail is lame, I'm sure. Hopefully the new killmail system will solve this part. But until then, I would rather self destruct to avoid handing billions over to my enemy than "die with honor".
Which is a mute point since the most money I have ever seen in my career is 400 million, but hey, I can dream right?

sometimes ill just undock a cap and self destruct it so people get mad that they didnt get a chance to kill it.
