I am new and have 14 million ISK, I want to do production. Tell me how I should spend my money to get into a profitable manufacturing business. Any links to good guides or skill reccomendations would be welcome. Thanks.

Mass production will be a bit difficult, But should be doable.
Last I checked, You can produce the amarrian Destroyer (forgot the name of it offhand) for roughly 800k each (buying everything off of the market), and they sell around 1 mil each. Thats with lvl 4 production effeciency skill and an unresearched BPO.
It'll take you roughly a day to build 10, and each set of 10 will net you around 1 mil each, But its a start I suppose. Once you get to where you can start to steamroll BSs though, You'll be able to make a decent speed turnaround, though it will run you around 50 mil or so to purchase the parts for each teir 1 BS.

You can try frigates or high-demand T1 modules for builders. Stay out of Jita and try some of the outer mission hubs like Motsu... I would recommend shuttles if the price of trit was lower.
If you know how to use excel, utilize it to figure out how much building a module/ship costs, make sure you sell it at least 2% higher than that to turn a profit...

Edited by: Bado Sten on 05/10/2007 08:08:22 If you are serious about manufacturing, then train Production Effiency 5. It will take a while, but it is the most important skill you can get. Mass production is probably a close second. -- Do you need research services for your blueprints? We have available slots in Metropolis region. Look up my bio for info! |

I do a lot of production/research, etc.
My honest advice to you is go and run some missions to get some standings with the stations you are going to operate out of. Better standings means more money in your pocket. Do missions for a corp that has research agents and you double your effectiveness. If you do combat mission you will get an idea for what mission runners use which can help you decide on what good to produce.
Running trade missions will force you to train up your hauling skills which is something that a serious builder that gathers his own materials will have to have.
You will also get a bit more money to start your production ventures with if you loot and salvage on kill missions.
You will need to get standings at some point if you want to max your profits from your sales anyway.
Id run missions and produce whatever consumables used, but make extra for sale. This way you start to get your feet wet with production and increase your standings at the same time.

Originally by: Akita T Ammo in mission-runner hubs. Can never go wrong with that.
Just to add a little something to this good advice - Except for producing the ammo, the steps for setting up a profitable ammo manufacturing op are simple and can be done concurrently. Just sit outside the missioning stations and watch what the locals are flying and do the market analysis for the corresponding ammos while you're just hanging around. See alot of Drakes? Make heavy missiles. Does the area seem to have alot of Min BC pilots? Make medium projectile ammo that does the damage local NPCs are weak against. Watching alot of Amarr ships undock? Well, if the locals are mostly Amarr pilots, then look for somewhere else to set up shop because the consumption rate on freq crystals is too low for you to make good isk right away.
If you can compete with the local prices (1-3 jumps out from the mission hub) on those ammos, then you're good to go. If not, then you've only wasted a few hours sitting in space

that was the best advice
production ....t1 ...well nobody mention it but its kinda low return but smart person can do nice sum of isk.
Start small, just to c how things go, know the market
Your main concern will be to sell as fast u can
Location (mission hubs, systems next to low sec and 0.0) good places to sell use your map to c where ppl hang
for a start
good luck

Don't buy your minerals direct from the market. Place buy orders to get your minerals considerably cheaper.
When you come to sell, you will need marketing skills. Accounting and Broker Relations skills will reduce your selling costs, but personal standing to the corporation that owns the station you are selling from appears to give the best reduction in selling costs. As noted above, running missions for that corporation's agents will increase your standing with them.

I would go with manufacturing rigs if I were you. The BPO's are cheap, buy the salvage materials at popular mission-running locations, and sell them anywhere but Jita. Jita tends to have both higher prices of salvage components (due to transport costs) and lower prices for rigs (competition effect).
You can easily have profit margin *at least* 0.5m per unit per rig (potentially up to 4-5m), if you buy and sell right. Fly to lowsec, buy your salvage there, do the manufacturing, export the rigs by shuttle.
Production Efficiency 5 is an absolute must, otherwise you just cannot compete.
