Use a battlecruiser. Usually have two fits at the ready, a long range heavy tank, and a short range speedy heavy gank.
I myself use a 2x heatsink Harbringer with pulses and a 2x EANM 2x Hardner 1xDCU2 Prophecy with beams.
You really need fits for gank and tank, as some missions require alot of ranged damage dealing as all your enemies will do their best to sit outside 25km while a ton of them lob shots at you. Others require short range heavy gank to clear out the hundreds of frigs and destroyers that get close to foil your tracking. ΞνΞ ΘΠLІΠΞ |

Personally I like the Cyclone. T2 Artillery and light drones for the frigs that get too close. If you use a EM and thermal hardeners you are pretty safe for most Minmatar missions, but you might want to use kinetic on some missions. HERE you can find info about most missions, in order to set up for the right damage. _______________________

I have been running L3 missions for a hot second and find that the Hurricane is the best option. High slots should be 3-720mm Art, 2 180mm AC, and 3 HML's. Works like a charm. As far as tactics its all keep at a distance. As far as my mid-slots go: An AB, Optical Link, Shield Extender, and an F-90. For your low-slots: Armor Repair, Gyro Stab, Tracking Enhancer, and 2 BCS. It works as long as you are keeping them at a distance. Hope this helps.

You will have better results with all Arty or all ACs. If you are having trouble hitting the smaller ships use Drones and assault launchers. Also if you shield tank look at the Cyclone as that is what it excels at. Use your mids on the Hurricane for Tracking enhancers and Cap chargers. And of course an AB.

BCs and up are probably the most efficient choice in most cases, but for what it's worth, I can personally attest that the Minni Assault Frigs, HACs, and Interdictor are quite capable of doing L3s. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I've used an armor tank hurricane for all level 3's, but that because my armor tanking skills were already high from armor tanking a Rupture for lvl2's. A good half of the missions wont even break your shields, so you can fill all of your lows with dmg mods and tracking enhances. I did all of these missions with artys btw.

i did use the cyclone for lvl 3 missions...
i think the fitting was something like
5x 720 t2 artilleries and 3 heavy launchers large shieldbooster and hardeners... might have had an amp too gyro's and pdu's in low
could do any mission without warpouts, tho you need to manage your cap due to the large booster sucking a LOT of it

A Hurricane is the most fun and fastest, however its tank is weak to explosive damage so be careful if you get a big mission full of Angels ( such as Blockade ). I fit mine with 6 ACs, 2 Heavy Missile launchers, 100MN AB, web, Cap Rechargers, MAR, hardeners, gyros and a CPR in the lows. The 100Mn AB is a bit weird but it makes it more fun.
The cyclone has a much better tank, it is nice with Arties and requires less piloting effort than the Hurricane. However it is a less effective damage dealer. I fit mine with a 5 650s, 3 Heavy Missile Launchers, Large Booster, Afterburner, 2 rat specific active hardeners and a rat specific passive hardener. Power diagnostic systems and Gyros in the lows.

Edited by: evriss on 09/10/2007 12:05:47 I loved my Hurricane. 5x650mm, 3xheavy launcher / AB II, Cap recharger IIs / MAR II, 2-4 N-Type hardeners, 1-3 gyro IIs depending on mission. Most level 3 missions didn't even break the shields and big angel/merc missions (Blockade, Damsel etc) weren't a problem with up to 4 hardeners to choose from
The trick with the hurricane was having 3 CR IIs, and energy management/energy sys op to 3 or 4. Allows all active modules (even the AB) to perma-run, giving an obscene tank and a fast ship to mitigate short-range incoming DPS and completely eliminate transversal. Don't beleive people who say it has a weak tank for missions :-)

I'll echo the Hurricane as the ship of choice for Lvl3 Minmatar ships.
I started flying one as soon as I had the skills, (2.5M SP) and am just now getting ready to move on (8.5M SP). Start with the most defensive setup and as your skills increase move to a more offensive (more gank, less tank) setup.
I found an arty/SH tank setup works best. Move from more SH mods to damage mods as skills allow.
Be prepared to lose about 6 of them before you really understand the capablities/limits of the ship and setup, but overall, I'm most impressed with this ship.
If you go full SH tank you can get to 12K SH with ~200sec recharge..
If you go full gank, I've landed 720mm II's for 850 damage @ 65KM..
Its a great ship to play with. Have fun..

Edited by: Kelbesque Crystalis on 09/10/2007 17:11:11 No need to lose 6 Hurricanes.
Personally, if you want to shield tank, go with the cyclone. The 'Cane has armor tank written all over it and doesn't have the mids to shield tank and run an AB on those missions where you really need a tank (most of them don't). Without and AB, you cant control transversal for arties, and cant get into position for AC's nearly as effectively. Without a sensor booster, you can hit way farther than you can lock. Mostly preference, but if I was going to shield tank the Mordus headhunters or Blockade, I'd do it in a Cyclone, and armor tank a Hurricane. Sure with enough SP you can run it anyway you want and it doesn't matter, but with lower SP, you need to work with the natural setup of a ship, not against it.
I did, however, use a lone shield booster for the Angel missions and just relied on natural resists.

Hurricane's 6 low slots are just the ticket for a passive shield tank. While this requires 3x shield recharge rigs the resulting shield tank is enough to laugh off most L3 damage and even survive some L4s. I think 3x LSE II, 6x SPR II and 3x core defense purger is the setup.
Depending on the mish you can even mount a gyro or two and still do well.
But as a Minmatar pilot you will need good drone, shield and missile skills at some point anyway. Spend the 3-4 days to get Caldari Cruiser 3 and hop into a Drake. That'll give you the ability to do L3s while you work on your shield, support, missile and drone skills for a few months.
