I would like to rat and mission run in 0.0 while reducing the chances of PvP.
How easy will this be with the new T2 black ops battleships?
Could I sneak past gatecamps?
Could I use the jump drive to venture into 0.0?
Would it be difficult for pirates to track me down?

Edit: Your best bet it to join up with an alliance that's deeply seated in 0.0 and go from there.

A: No, you need a cyno ship to jump to which does need to get through the camp B: No, unless you got someone else creating cynofields for you (supposedly a new module will come out to make undetectable cyno fields, they will only fit on recons/cov ops frigs and only allows cov ops battleships to jump) C: As long as you are cloaked you won't be findable. But you can't do anything while cloaked.

Hmm, I think 'not gonna happen' is a bit to strong. If you're part of a small corp with cov op recons that can cyno you in, then I don't see why not. The cov op recons shouldnt have too hard a time of it, provide you select a back water patch of .0.
Definitely doable.

Now this is more likely, however if you're missioning in low sec you're going to have a different fit.
I honestly can't imagine what you'd fit on a covops BS.

Lowsec is worse that 0.0 in certain areas for camping. It really does depend on the area you're looking to operate out of.

Less gate camps, but then tbh you could probably just fly in there just fine. No need for a billion isk ship for that.
Try it, grab a shuttle and plot a course through low sec - I think you'll be suprised how empty it is and that the gate camp every where horror stories are pretty much just that - stories.

I find that the Caldari low-sec systems are consistently more dangerous than others. Rancer and Tama to be specific. Since these are high-traffic shortcuts, they get more attention from pirates.
I've spent hours in Eurgrana and never even been locked, even by reds. (Move next door to AD, and it seems to be another story )

Rubbish, there's loads of corpless players / small corps that mission run and rat in .0 without a problem.
Far too many people believe the myth that all of .0 is heavily controled by vast roaming fleets of cap ships and that every gate in low sec has a camp of hundreds waiting to pop you. It's simply not true.

If you can warp cloaked in one of the new T2 BS, then it'd be the perfect exploration machine as it can tank, sneak and proably hold its ground in pvp if correctly setup

I feel the coverert ops frigate is over-rated. Neat idea but it is near impossible to slip past a gate camp with a bubble. This ship should be able to do it. Has no real combat threat but if a black ops frigate cant slip past a gate camp whats the point in having it. Inappropriate content - Laqum |

Hehe..
Someone is trying to scare you from venturing out in 0.0 I guess.
I based out of a station in CA space and did a whole month of exploring before they got my Dominix with prototype cloak. I even bought probes in their 'home' station. Got camped, but made a clean run just after DT.
You need a cov-ops + the Black Ops tho.
And keep your operations to quiet places.
If I should do a stunt like that again I'd still use a domi tho, not the black ops, as its cost *if* blown up will be in the league of a carrier going down.
If lucky you can get the income to pay for a new domi from 1 site. But you'll need 10 or more to pay for a new black ops.

i find the 'reducing chances of PvP' part amusing, u don't PvP in 0.0 u blob or gank.
Dropping a carrier or even a MS on ue head cuz apparently 5 ships arn't enough to pop a lone npc'ing BS
Granted, why take the chance if u do happen to have pilots in carriers/MS, i'd drop em too i must admit. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

but I liked dropping my carrier on the neutrals I was cynoing in supplies anyway, jumped in and low and behold some neutral undocked in a bestower!! he got away once(I jumped in to him aligned and before I could get all my fighters on him), but he came back(NPC station)... 2nd time he didn't make out so well and his stab didn't help
funny part, he whined in barely speak english cut and paste special, which upset me cause I was to close to the station to smartbomb him or he wouldn't have whined at all PKKP recruitment |

It's definatly possible.
IF it is really a fact that there will be a BS with cov ops cloak and IF there will be a cloaked cynofield that allows only the black ops and recons to jump through, yes. But that is by now really uncertain.
Besides with a Recon it is already possible to rat in 0.0 Systems. As it was said here befor you need to find places that are empty. You make several safespots and stay aligned. It is still uppermost important that you have no enemies in local and that you watch local carefully. As soon as someone comes in you warp out and cloak while warping. It is not actually a big difference to ratting in 0.0 whilst beeing in a 0.0 alliance since you have to do the same.
Problem is to get out if a gang is send to hunt you down. With the help of invisible cyno fields and a recon this would become easier.
So far you can simply take your recon, warp to safe spot accelerate and cloak. Nobody will be able to find you as soon as your aggression timer rans out you log. I don't know if it isn't even possible to log earlier but someone can for sure tell you.
I myself made 100+ jumps yesterday in a cov op all through enemy space and nobody even was close to catching me until I made a big mistake in the end I warped to a planet and cloaked but didnt accelerate, you always need to get away from the warp in points. I'm too green for this game but i'm 100% sure you can safley rat in 0.0 Space with a recon any time you just have to be careful and awake as long as you don't make a mistake you have 100% chance to stay safe.
So yeah with Black ops you could do the same maybe but they are heavier and slower...I wouldn't try to break gate camps with em or to solo operate without a cyno field to jump to. They don't get into warp fast enough they would be bumbed to decloak and afterwards with the help of a bubble kept from warping.
But the Recon Cruiser is with goood skills tuff enough to shoot down the rats and agil enough to get through most situations.
An easier way is to get into an NRDS Area. For example Providence. In this areas you still have to be careful but no enemy gang will hunt you down as long as you cooperate with the local authority they'll protect you from such.
In 0.0 even if you're a part of BOB or Goon you have to be careful while ratting cause it's never safe.
I strongly recommend you to practise in a cov op for such situations. Cause you will be surprised how easily you make a mistake. And the Balck Ops will for sure be very very expensive. And practise not only 10mintues but try 3-4 hs or the usual ammount of time you plan to rat. Cause most mistakes happen when you start to loose concentration find this point and avoid it in a Black Op or Recon they are way too expensive for such mistakes.
If you got any questions left on how to get into 0.0 just convo me or send me an eve-mail. I'd be glad to help you.
Good luck to you and keep your free thinking! Space is free for all and this will stay so! shoot da:

hmmm black ops.. hmmm... erm.. sorry, got distracted there for a sec
But isn't that what ccp wants? have people goto low/0.0 sec more? 1 way to accomplish this is by making it easier to circumvent the 0.0 chokepoints and jump into deeper 0.0 space. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Only if you suck. It's easy as hell (though time consuming) to slip past most bubbled camps even in a Stealth Bomber. It takes an army of interceptors and other fast ships to have a chance to decloak a cloaking ship.
Though a fast intercceptor with a cloak is the absolute best way out there to move around in 0.0.

Edited by: Contralto on 07/10/2007 12:55:35 I am about as Carebear as they come, but a year ago I decided to take a vacation in 0.0. a more experienced friend scouted me through a corpse strewn mega campsite to a quiet dead end 0.0 system 11 jumps in with a Quafe station and lvl 4 agent.
I did the trip in a stabbed Thorax but apart from piles of corpses around the gate, no one even tried to lock me. just before dt ftw. Forget the system name its a choke point next to Villore.
I carried a hold full of T2 mods and Drones and a 5 run Domi BPC. after my escort took his leave in his interceptor I did a few hours ratting till I had enough mins to build a Domi. had to head to the next system to build it.
I spent a month in that system doing a few missions and chaining rats, I docked at the first sign of any one entering the system, but most were industrial types hauling stuff.I clone jumped back to empire when I was bored or needed to do something.
Getting braver I then headed out to Outer ring, when RISE was having trouble with Youwhat, I headed straight for a true 0.0 system to get some uber loot, spent a few days there docking in the main hub. chatting to the poor souls who were under CEO orders not to venture out solo and provide targets for the enemy, or couldnt undock because they didnt have enough to buy a new ship and the boss was not logged on to give a new one.
yes solo in 0.0 is entirely possible if you watch every movement and cloak till the danger is past. People dont stay long in deserted systems.
I am constantly reminded of my adventures by the assets tab which still contains enough loot and minerals to build at least 2 Domis, I sold the Domi I was using and left a clone which is still there. later I did the same in the Ushrakahn held systems, my clone and a frigate are still in their old outpost which I notice has a new name now.

But actually, even a few days old newbie with a tech 1 fitted tech 1 frigate can rat in 0.4. Add on a few million sp and some tech 2 equipment, and a tech 1 frigate can kill any belt rat you can run into in low-sec. Especially rats that don't use missiles.

I guess thats true of most alliance held territory but in my case RISE and Ushrakahn were not so blood thirsty and in fact were ok to chat to in local. some of the RISE exiles were a bit spammy in local however, I usually just told them I was cloaked and would stay that way till they had departed, not worth the time or ammo to hunt me down I guess. And more risky for them than me methinks.
A large typed friendly to the local alliance in my Bio worked wonders usually.

Edited by: Contralto on 07/10/2007 13:26:51 Triple BS spawns would take you forever to take down and a speedy kill is important when a threat may enter the system at any time, You need to loot as well so not much use with a frigates cargo bay. I built myself an Exequor fitted with expanders I looted from the serp rats, The cruisers drop plenty of them.
Remember being 30 jumps into a nice quiet spot wont be any use to you if you run out of ammo. Plan ahead and set up a base in an NPC station like I did then foray out from there.

Also to the op, bs are way overkill imo for ratting in 0.0 try getting a bc in such as a myrm/drake when its quiet as they both can take any 0.0 spawn while still being competitive in the time to kill them.
Alternatively if you can use an af they are also able to take on 0.0 spawns quite easy only problem takes a fair bit longer to break bs tank with them but near impossible for a random person to catch you.
Another approach it to go faction hunting . . . basically you use a fast ship say ceptor(taranis is one with enough dps) or vaga that kinda thing af should be ok. Then just set out a route thats long and visit every belt along the way only killing faction spawns. This works for some people a corpie of mine makes a boat load doing this but i think he must be a dev alt the luck he has

No. I mean, it is theoretically possible to kill smaller battleship rats with a tech 2 fitted Incursus or Rifter, but it would be more time efficient to do it low-sec then.
An assault ship can do it. It helps to kill the small rats first though, cause they hit you harder than the big ones. And again, rats that don't use missiles are the easiest to tank for a small ship.

You should join a 0.0 corp if you really want to taste 0.0.
0.0 = PVP. I doublt Black ops battleships will be invinible being able to to avoid enemy, cloak when in warp and take on 0.0 rats. If your new to 0.0 you will find it really hard not being killed so i recommend my first sentance

All you need is a tech 1 frigate to be nearly uncatchable in low sec (except by a smartbombing ship on a gate, but they are rare in the extreme).
Good idea, but I doubt a T1 frigate would allow me to do very much. I don't suppose I could even go ratting in low sec?
A t1 frigate with a couple weeks gunnery/missile skills should be able to kill every rat in lowsec. Possibly a new player can do it now due to the increased starting skills. Cruisers are quicker though.

Nice one! Good luck and have fun. I assume you'll be going for a scout about in a small, fast cheap ship first? A cheap frigate, or even better, a cheap inty like a Slasher should get you through most camps. Fit a cloak and speed mods, maybe even a WCS, and have a look around. Take a note of the busy systems, plan your route to avoid stations, make bookmarks - safe spots, 600Km-from-the-gate BMs, etc. I doubt you'll make much ISK today, but you'll have a lot of fun and be laying the groundwork for a profitable week...

How easy will this be with the new T2 black ops battleships?
Could I sneak past gatecamps?
Could I use the jump drive to venture into 0.0?
Would it be difficult for pirates to track me down?
I think the question is irrelevant. If you can fly a black ops BS you a) can fly a HAC and b) can fly a fleet bs and c) are at least half way to flying a cap ship. You shouldn't really have any problems finding a 0.0 alliance that will accept you.

Your best bet is to join an alliance, for the most part alliance areas are mostly safer than low security. Your new corp and alliance would be able to help you get your equipment out to 0.0.

Would a speed fitted stabber be ok or are T1 frigates better?
