Master smaller ships first, don't fly what you can't lose, and don't expect Warp Core Stabs to always protect you.

He asked me how much would it cost to stop shooting. I asked for 20 Mil, but he said he only had 7.2 Mil. So after I destroyed him I tried again for 5 Mil on his pod. His exact words were "get bent". Soon after he was in a clone vat far far away.

Rifters are like bulldogs. As long as you're halfway prepared they're just annoying little ****ants. The moment you say "Whatever it's just a frigate" they'll **** you up though.

A lesson to the older players:
We fly what we want. If we loose em due to our noobness, well its our fault, lesson learned then (hopefully). You know what: this is just a f....ing game. Anyone who really cares about this virtual isk thing should consult a psycho-doc !
And to those who always say "Thiz fitting is making my eyez bleed" ..sounds like you arrived at EvE with already 20Million Skillpoints and you always knew what to fit dont you ? Or did even you "Gods of EvE" did some mistakes ? Unthinkable.
So you killed an unexperienced nub ! With an extremely lousy fitting...while transporting his loot and salvage. Geez...guess he learned his lesson. Oh..and how glad you must be that there are still unexperienced noobs who make such mistakes....otherwise you wouldnt be able to rack up your killboard, eh ?

Actually the lesson is not about WCS or small ships, it's about fittings. Look at the Hurricanes fittings, make a list of what is wrong with it and don't do that.

No, we weren't stupid enough to try to shield tank a ship that's obviously an armor tanker. Ever. I mean cmon, look at its slots! Look at it's bonuses! While it works when ratting NPC frigates it's horrible inefficient. If he wanted to fit his ship that way he could have just bought a Cyclone that is CHEAPER and is actually designed to be fitted that way.
This may be a shock, but there are many many resources to pilots to prevent this right here. You are making very noob mistakes all through your post. SP doesn't make or break you in EVE because of how much tactics matter and because you can only specialize so much on each ship, you won't be able to fly as many ships as a vet well, but in 2-3 months of specializing you should be almost as good in any sub BS t1 ship. I've taken down twin -10 sec status Wolf pilots with a week old Vexor pilot. Not bragging here, it happens all the time, most rookies don't seem to get this though. It's honestly the beauty of EVE compared to other MMOs.
This pilot in the killmail makes the mistake of thinking the more ISK he spends the better the ship will be. For what he was doing a cruiser would have been fine, maybe even a frigate.
There are many websites as well as the forums, if you can look past the flaming and trolling that you can learn how to properly fit ships. If that fails join a player corp that has a clue. I shudder to think how your real life goes if you never research anything but just buy the most expensive stuff you can. How does your automobile shopping go for instance? You just go to the store and tell the clerk, "Hey mate, give me the biggest, most expensive auto you've got! Drivers license? Screw that! Insurance? Nope! Do I want to fit seat belts? Nah, I'll use velcro to hold me in! Doors and windows aren't needed." -- A Solo Arbitrator vid, Distortion by Corwain |

Making error teach us what not to do again. I see U're video and juste after i try the same thing. The results was that i lost my ships faster than i bought and fit it. Why? Because i don't check my transversal and i was aligned direct to my target. Arbitrator goes boom
But still a nice video i like to watch and to try.

Hehe, yup. I'm not saying you don't learn by trial and error, I just believe that as much thought should go into your ship and setup before the fact as after it goes south. Ok...perhaps i was somehow misunderstood...didnt meant to flame or troll. All i was saying is that this is just a game and everybody can play it the way he wants to. Want some examples for my faults i made in EvE ? Here we go:
1. Fitted a Laser to my Gallente Frig ( ) without knowing that i needed a crystal for that. Hope you can imagine my face when i realised that my assumed Death-Star-Laser was nothing more then a cheap MagLite Imitate....while jumping into "Worlds Collide"
2. "haha...you will never warpscramble me again you darn gallente-mission-generic-ships-fuzzies - i now have 3 Warpsstabilizers..hahaaa...hngg? WFT...me cannot lock on anymore at normal range...." ...realized the locking range penalty only seconds before my ship died... (Enemys Abound LvL 4)
As you can see "reading the manual" is never first on my list when testing new things :D Guess that has already cost me some isk yet...

Those mistake should be frapsed.
Last lost was this week when i saw a hobgobelin alone in a belt. Engaging my enyo right on him (why? i still don't know what for, perhaps show to myself my overpowered dps ) , blow fast this enormous target , and popped by concord . Was in 0.5 , just forget to check this little detail .

I upset a couple of people recently with awful setups, im at work so cant post the kill, but Harpy Vs Raven and Harpy winning was amusing to say the least and then refusing the ransom whilst waiting for a corp mate to come along to help him.... In his Hulk LOL.... so i relieved him of his ship for his troubles too.
The smacktalk that followed for well over an hour after was funny tho, so much so it warranted me ensuring i caused the maximum misery for the 2 weeks after -----------------------------------------

Yes he was only a 20 day character. Half the reason I even attempted such an undertaking. What pirate here wouldn't jump at the sight of a noob in a ship they shouldn't be flying? I'm only a 6 month character and I still love my Rifter, even though I could easily take out my cruiser or battlecruiser.
Simply put this player shouldn't have been alone in a belt, ratting frigate NPC's, with such a horrible fitting in a battlecruiser.
My advice to any new player reading this is: Do your homework. Check the forums, ask people questions in game, and consult the various ship fitting websites. The biggest ship isn't always the best ship.

Happens all the time tbh. Got geddon with omen, brutix with omen, drake with punisher and tristan, raven with 3 t1 frigs, rokh with arbitrator, probably bunch of stuff I forgot... Than you see the killmail and loot and say "so THATS why he didnt kill me in first 2 seconds".
Basically if you survive the very beginning in such a fight, it means opponent has no clue. If you dont... it's just a frig.

20 mil ransom on a 30 mil ship? sonds a little dumb if you ask me.. id rather die then give u 20 mil. it actaully pays him to get ganked, if hes insured at least.
a 7 mil ransom on a 30 mil ship however is a good trade off.
i once ransomed a brutix for 7 mil and he payed it.. i was in a harpy. the key here being a low, believable ransom.
anyway nice kill, but if you want to actaully get money from the guy, gotta be fair.

Maybe so, but I have enough ISK and it looked better on my Corps KB rather than in my wallet. 20 Mil (double the insurance + Mods) would have swayed my choice. To be honest I should have tried to make him eject and take the ship.

haha people make mistakes, and people learn from them (sometimes) :D
only yesterday i was sat 30km off a gate in my buzzard, just idly keeping an eye on traffic for my alliance. Sniping mega turns up 240km off the gate and sits there looking at me for a few minutes, doing nothing. i relay this info in intel channel, and go back to spamming my scanner... then i start taking damage and pretty quickly lose my ship, wtf!?!?!?!
'oh crap' i think 'i don't actually remember turning on my cloak... i must have cloaked, surely, oh man... that's embaressing'
even worse was the deathmail... i give it a brief glance and it's HUGE, erm... i can't have lost that much can i? then after checking i realised i still had nearly all my Blueprints and skill books in my cargo from a recent corp relocation. awwww man, what the hell - only BPC's so didn't lose more than 100 or 1500mill, but pretty expensive loss for one frigate, due to a temporary bout of ultra-stupity
i've learnt from it though, i hope _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

I was flying around and found the same guy in the same system tonight. Rupture this time. He left system in a hurry, leaving his drones behind I believe.
I found him one system over docked up. I linked him to this post and talked with him for a few minutes. Tried to give him a little advice.
Seeing that he was in a smaller ship, and noticed me in local, is a good sign he has learned something. At least he didn't just give up and quit.

Yeah, the fit is a little O_o.
You can shield tank a Hurricane, though. I have one for missions, does a great job. Lots of lowslots doesn't always mean armor tank. It can also mean damage mods out the ass.

Do you think all of us looked on the forums for every single ship setup? No. We look on the forums, see what patterns work, what tactics work, what concepts are involved, and begin to figure out the setups for ourselves. I still ask, and 95% of the time, they only require minor modifications (for example, switching passive resist arrays for actives on passive tanked Caracals/Drakes). As for concepts, they're like this: mixing ranges is a bad thing-you dictate the range if at all possible, not your enemies. Drones can help with targets which refuse to neatly drop into your range. And not only was he lacking in skills for an armor tank, he was lacking in 95% of the skills you should have before even so much as looking at a lowsec battlecruiser.
And funny enough, you speak very good Engrish. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

and he should have known all of this because of... what exactly? ever thought that he might not even speak english properly, thus not able to figure out totally what the description of the ship is telling him? at least he was using AC/arties and not lasers, like in another post. he was not using a webber as he tried to shield tank it seems. maybe he was lacking skills for armor tank? who knows. and for a webless ship, a mix of arti/ac is probably the best option to take out both cruiser/frigattes at long/short range, specially if he is only a few weeks old and lacks skills.
so, you "OMG I WAS BORN GODLY" can all go to hell, i bet you didn't achieve anything on your own anyways, just copied what forum sais (nice that you can speak english, some ppl. can't or can't properly) or did what a older corpmate told u.
it's all like this OMG IMBA WOW GUILDS who kill a boss for first time, copying to the smallest detail a strategy they've read on forums and still thinking they are godly.
to all that kind of ppl, i'll say what ford fairlane used to say to zuzu petals: shut up... just... shut the **** up.
math = win
It takes neither extensive forum research nor a degree in literature to click "show info" on market entries and recognize what fittings make sense. The ability to think for yourself and recognize advantages/disadvantages relative to available alternatives are skills which transcend this little online game. Hopefully any perceived trauma from our heartless forum ridicule is outweighed by the reminder that yes, it is OK to engage your brain in everything that you do.
If you don't like this cruel, harsh community, CIHYS?

There's no excuse to be noobish about fitting. I read the forum before I ever bought the game. There are lots of fansites and places to ask questions. Nothing is clear till you play of course, but at least I don't shield tank my Harbinger just because I was too proud to read a FAQ online.
Being a noob is unavoidable, not trying to fix that inevitable problem is your own fault. ----------------------
