Finally swopped my vanilla Raven for a Navy Raven, and just need some advice on what to upgrade next. Current setup is:
Highs: 7 x Arbalest Cruise Launcher I 1 x Heavy Nosferatu
Mid: 1 x Domination 100mn AB 1 x Large Shield Ext II 1 x Explosive Hardener II 1 x Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field 1 x Domination XL Shield Booster 1 x Dread Gurista Shield Boost Amplifier
Low: 2 x Dread Gurista Ballistic Control 3 x Power Diagnostic Unit III
Rigs: 3 x Capacitor Control Circuit I
Depending on the mission I swop out the AB / Shield hardener for whats needed (Em/Therm/Kinetic). Last night I got a ton of Angel missions (Vengeance twice, Smuggler interception, Blockade 4) and basically just used above setup and was fine.
Would like some advice on what next? Do I save for a better XL Shield Booster (though the Domi seems to cope fine even in Blockade 4), or do I spend the isk on 7 x faction launchers? Seems Caldari Navy or Dread Gurista has the best rate of fire.
Another question, will adding a 2nd Dread Gurista Invuln help towards a omni-tank or am I better off just swopping hardeners as per mission requirement?
Comments / suggestions?

Edited by: goodby4u on 08/10/2007 07:43:34 I usually go for higher reasists ie 4x hardeners...but im not sure how those will fit with a shield boost amp.
As for your questions,i like swapping per mission, and i'd skill up for t2 cruise instead of faction, you get the same rof after the skill bonuses and they are much cheaper. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. There's already a ton of threads on these (just do a search), but..
I'd ditch the AB and the LSE2 for either hardeners or cap sustainability, and make sure your resistances and missiles are always mission specific.
As to what you need to upgrade, tend toward what you think is weakest. Do you have tanking problems or DPS problems? If the former, upgrade your tank. If the latter, upgrade your launchers.

No, even CN launchers are faster than T2 launchers can ever be, and take far less sp to get up to usefulness. They are also not that expensive, especially not if you do missions for a caldari corp. Theres zero reason to go for t2 launchers for missions if you dont intend to use t2 missiles

Tank is rarely an issue. As I stated, when required (drone missions, Mordus, Mercs etc) I take the one LSE and AB off and add hardeners. Only missions I avoid are blood raiders...nos / nuet + scram frigs cost me a Raven before. That said, I hardly ever get them and then just refuse it. I tend to get a ton of Angel missions...had Blockade 4 three times on a Saturday before , Angel Extrav 4 twice in one day etc...the fun in missioning in Heimatar ..
DPS is still an issue...Tech II cruise launchers are a while off..I have got most missile skills at 4, but training for Recon ships at the moment, so not keen on investing weeks in Cruise Missiles V...would rather throw isk at the problem..

Save your isks for a Golem, it will be a signifiant DPS/tank upgrade over a navy raven, and you get -75% ammo cost, 3 utility slots, 10m/s and double cargo bay on top of it. ------------------------------------------

I take you are using it for lev 3 missions ? You might get somewhat better results on level 3 with Drake tho than with CNR.
When you move up to level 4 missions then there is 2 available paths for you. Either Cruise missile path or Torpedo path.
First one is somewhat easier but also approx 20 .. 25 % slower in missions. You can do it more 'semiafk style' tho and can have lower fitting skills to pull it off.
Second one is using torpedoes. It is approx 25% faster than cruise in most missions (there is some expections with a lot of small tartgets) assuming you control your fire distribution manually (thus paying attention what you do. It means stopping launchers when there is enough volleys in flight to kill curent target and activating them on next target). Most torpedo setups would need adwanced wepon upgrades tho.
For tank on lev 4 missions you might want to try XL booster, 3x Hardeners, 1x PWNAGE painter, 1x Cap injector (x800 charges) and drop injector after you can do most of them without needing to warp off. In addition it's most reasonable to fit also approx 3 BCU's in your low slots (I usually use 4 navy ones in cruise missile setup and 3 navy ones in torp setup). Your current modules are already quite good, but it's more effective to fit specific hardeners for lev 4 missions. That invul field is quite good tho so it's reasonable to beef it up either with 2x T2 hardeners for both mission specific damage types or if you happen to have another one stockpiled somewhere then second similar invul field plus T2 hardener for primary damage type in mission.

No, this is for lvl4's...show me a self respecting person that would take a CNR in to lvl3's!!
Did all my lvl3's in a t2 fitted Drake..(Then lost said Drake in a low sec camp on the way to a corp gathering for a lvl5 - silly pirates / griefers).
I understand the point about torps vs. cruise...it's been a long discussion. In 0.0 on the Raven I rat in I use torps+target painter+sensor booster (darn cloak gimps lock time). Unfortunately a large number of the lvl4's have tons of frigs and cruisers...I think The Assault (Serpentis) has maybe 5 BS's in it?? Blockade 4 has swarms of frigates and cruisers...so sticking with cruise missiles for now...

Start using siege launchers and fit mids like this:
1x booster 1x boost amp 3x hardeners 1x painter

Yep. Massive Assault, The Score and so on - missions with a lot of small targets and just few battleships are worse for torps than cruise. Then again, as mentioned those are missions where you will get better results in Nighthawk, Drake or perhaps even in Cerberus than in CNR.
At the end of day most reasonable fits on some battlecruisers and all battleships (well, perhaps not Scorpion tho as he might need to go for more ammo) can do level 4 missions without warpouts. Some faster some slower. Cruise missile CNR is quite universal solution for level 4 missions and not THAT far behind Torpedo CNR on average mission running speed over all available level 4 missions.

What? Since when do the npc in missions use nos/neuts? I hope you're joking.

I've seen Blood Raiders use NOS in some LVL 4 missions, but very rarely as they're usually dead before they can get close enough.

I remember that missions in raven were peace of cake before the rigs. Now with 3x ccc rigs you shouln't have any problems at all. ----------------------

Not joking...Blood Raider mission I didn't have before. Went in, started shooting and not really paying attention...noticed cap dying fast...tried to warp out and got that "You cannot warp because you are being warp scrambled message" Bye bye vanilla Raven...
As for the question, went to Jita last night, got 7 x Caldari Navy Cruise launchers. Big improvement over the Arbalest...30 cruise in tube vs 24, and 8.7 sec rof with my skills (which still need lots of work)...darn 9days for missile bombardment V
