Nothing wrong with denying your enemies the pleasure of finishing you off if you're going down anyway. I don't see why everyone throws a fit over it, it's just a killmail.

He was happy enough to use his carrier against a force much weaker than him, and then suddenly decides he wants out when they suddenly find the upper hand. Lame.

He didn't get out, he still lost the carrier. If the procedure brought you to safety, of course it would be an issue. But it doesn't. It guarantees your death.

This is the second carrier in 2 days to do this too us.
RISE carrier in RIT just did same thing other day.
I hope CCP is doing something about this with the new KM system

I heard that with the new system when ever you do any damage on a mail you will get a copy of the mail. If the new system does indeed work this way if someone self destructs you will still get a copy of the mail when the person dies if you appear on the mail the person gets in their inbox upon death.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I tend to die too quick to even consider it. However I will say this, the little boy inside me always loved it in the space ship films when the heroes self destructed their ship rather than let it fall into enemy hands.
Whilst in EVE we tend to use the 'self destruct' option to pod express and in your case to deny your hostiles the killmail, it does make me ponder, did ccp add this feature as an ode to the heroes we all loved as kids?

when the warrior has all odds against him he can either try to take as many enemies with him or if the condition of the warrior does not allow him to fight any longer comit sepukku in order to die with honor.

Logging is no where near the same ... by logging you are trying to evade destruction.
If you Self destruct, u are still losing the carrier, just denying the people there precious killmail
If u was pout in the same situation...i would do the same thing...but only if i knew there was no hope...and i would take as many of em with me during the countdown as i could..

? You did used to be able to jump out of warp bubbles, deployed or dictor, in any cap ship. AFAIK you could never jump with a point on you though. Was it rev 1 they changed that ? Basically the same time supercaps started dying to dictors, normal caps became vunerable to bubbles also.
The reality is, self destructing is fine HOWEVER if someone loses a ship, and you did damage to them in the last 15, you should be getting a killmail anyway. Same as if 'rats' get the final blow (ie, you 'should' get a km but don't)...

Harcole....name rings a bell somewhere. Oh yeah, you were in lock n' load 5...and you were shooting at blues (at least the guy frapsing had you blue and you shot him). What goes around comes around I guess.
And what's the point of self destructing your carrier to keep the killmail out of the killers hands? Going and blabbing on CAOD that you had to self destruct your carrier probably gives your killers more "lulz" than if they had just killed you.

I just don't understand peoples' obsession with killmails. If the carrier goes down, does it matter how? You've won the fight. Whether or not you get a precious killmail is pretty much a non-factor. Unless the kill itself is not satisfying, in which case perhaps you should find another game to play...
