Howdy!
Newer player here with a couple Rig questions.
I currently fly a Drake and love it! Shield-tanking is fun (at least for now) and I truly enjoy this ship.
I currently run Level 3's regularly. Some offer a challenge and I might have to warp out once or twice, but most do not require that I warp out and return. I have about 1.7 mill SPs.
My current setup:
7 Hvy Missile Launchers
2 Large Shield Extenders 1 Large Shield Booster 2 Invuln fields 1 Passive amplifier of mission-type
2 BCU II's 1 PDU 1 Shield charger (the item that increases shield recharge rate at the expense of Cap recharge)
I am looking at putting 3 rigs on this fun ship, and am trying to decide between the following:
Core Defence Field Purger I Core Defense Field Extender I Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I
I've seen LOTS of Module recommendations, but few Rig recommendations (unless I am just missing them somewhere).
At first, I was going to go with 1 of each of the three.
The WCC would be useful because the Drake's weak-spot is DPS. But since I already use 2 BCU II's, I assume I'll receive diminished returns since it grants an effect similar to them
The CDFE is nice, giving me more flat-out Shield HP.
The CDFP is nice, as it ups my recharge rate, which is not stellar by any means.
So... thoughts?
1) I could toss in a WCC and dump one of the BCU IIs? 2) I could use 1 or more CDFE to beef up Shield HP? 3) I could focus on the CDFP for faster recharge?
1 of each? 2 of one and 1 of another? Or 3 of one?
Ideas? Suggestions?
Your thoughts are appreciated! :)

Highs: 7x launchers of your choice
Mids: 3x Large Shield Extenders 2x Invuln Field 1x Shield Recharger
Lows: 1x RCU 3x Shield Power Relay
Rigs: 3x Field Purgers
As much t2 stuff as you have skills for. This will tank anything you'll face in a lvl 3 and use hardly any cap.

Purger is the way to go, and you are free to space out without a care in the world.

I have some advice, some of it module-related. First, you're mixing an active tank (shield booster) with a passive tank (going for massive shield recharge). Bad idea. Second, damage rigs... sorta... suck. Stacking nerfed with damage modules, increase weapon powergrid use... just... sucky. Third, the Drake is the L3 option for those players who find breathing difficult. Fourth, you can run level 4 missions in a Drake, though slowly.
7x Heavy Missile Launchers Drone link augumentor, NOS, something, ANYTHING 3x Large Shield Extender IIs 3x mission-specific T2 hardeners 1-4 Shield Power Relay IIs (these are the + shield recharge - cap recharge modules) 0-3 Ballistic Control Units (fit these if you want to kill stuff faster) 3x Core Defense Field Purgers provide the best tank. Extenders will give you a little more buffer, but less shield regeneration. Dont' forget 5 light drones! ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

You've got a mixed active/passive setup. It's not ideal, but if it works for you, go for it :P
With that in mind, I'd go for 3x purger rigs. The faster recharge is usually more helpful then the added shield HP (for NPCing anyways)
Also, if you keep a hybrid tank, drop that Shield Power Relay for another PDU. It still gives increased shield recharge, but doesn't nerf your cap recharge at all.
***** If you want a stronger tank you can drop the shield booster for something else, and change out the PDU for a shield power relay. Couple that with purger rigs and you are golden.
****
Just a FYI, the 2 shield rigs you mentioned are not nerfed by stacking, while the missile one is, since you have BCU's. So smart choice would prolly be on purgers in the rigs, and BCUs left in the lows.
*** Thats a Templar, the amarr fighter. Its a combat drone used by carriers. |

My current favorite Drake setup:
7x Arbalest HML 1x Drone Link Augmentor
2x Large Shield Extender II 4x Rat Specific Active Hardener II
1-2x BCU II 1-2x PDS II 1x SPR II
3x Purger Rigs
5x Hobgoblin IIs
With Energy Systems Operation V and Energy Management IV it permaruns (actually doesn't need skills quite that high). It fits easily with WU IV, Electronics V and Engineering V. And it can tank any Level IV mission if you fit the right hardeners. ------------

I recently got a drake myself in my cross training to caldari for mission running....I have gone with 3 of the field purger rigs, or whatever the recharge one is called, on my setup...and I'm pretty happy with it.

Mids 3 x Large shield Extender II's 3 x Rat specific ACTIVE Hardeners
Low's 2 x Shield Power Relay II's 2 x BCS II's
Rigs 3 x Core Defence Field Purger
Can do ANY lvl3 mission and some LVL4's with this setup, I also rat in 0.0 with the same setup and can deal with anything up to 1.85mil bounty (Triple spawn+support, take out the support first ), can tank the bigger ones but can't kill them with the DPS the Drake puts out .
Active Hardeners are sustainable easily Cap holds at about 45%, shields NEVER drop below 40%.

Edited by: Bacci Galu on 10/10/2007 04:43:19 3 LSE2's, 1 SR2, 1 invul2, 1 Caldari Navy Magnetic Scattering (train compensation skills to 5).. 2 spr2's, 2 pdu2's ... 3 CDFP rigs
Get BC as high as u can (i have 5)... this setup will run any lvl 3 (dont know about 4's, cause never tried, i use CNR for lvl 4's) and wont break a swet....get bored, drive it straight into low sec and have fun....very hard to kill...tho these passive fits are very dependant on SP's as u need BC 5 and Shield comp skills to 4-5 to take advantage of the resistances....shield management 5 will also a huge difference
Caldari BC's == Passive tank
