Assuming the same level of missile skills in both (and let's assume they're maxed out) which has more DPS on a Raven: full rack of cruise launchers or full rack of heavy assault launchers? Ignore the range difference, I only want to compare actual DPS.
I realize that it depends how large the target is, so let's assume you're running missions and you gotta shoot a mixture of everything from frigates to battleships. How's the comparison overall assuming all targets are close enough for HAMs?

With Caldari Battleship trained to level 3 HAM's have a tiny advantage in raw DPS. With Caldari Battleship 4 or 5, then Cruise Missiles have the clear advantage.
This is comparing just the raw DPS assuming that the Cruise missile and HAM skill levels are the same. As you are aware, the effective damage will depend on the target you are shooting at.

Quote: Special Ability: 5% bonus to Cruise and Siege Launcher Rate Of Fire and 10% bonus to Cruise Missile and Torpedo Velocity per level.
Cruise missles.
If you put HAMs on your raven I'll hunt you down and remove you from the gene pool.

Heavy assault launchers are short range missiles for cruiser class ships.
For a battleship (Raven) you normally want to choose between Torpedoes or Cruise missiles. Torpedoes are shorter range than cruise missiles, and much slower, but does more damage on cruiser and battleship sized ships. Cruise are better for killing frigates, but in a raven you can use drones to kill the frigates. In most lvl 4 missions you got mostly battleships and cruisers so torpedoes are the fastest (when you kill frigates with your drones). With okish skills the range of the torpedoes is not an issue, but their slow speed means you have to count the volleys you need to kill a ship or you end up wasting a ton of torpedoes. If you want a more fire and forget system, cruise missiles are better.
Generally for all weapontypes/sizes there is one short range and one long range version. The shortrange one always does more damage.

Ok, thanks. How about a command ship (Nighthawk) fitted with 6 HAM launchers then? From what Matalino said I take it the CS with HAMs would out-dps a Raven with cruises?
Also, from the Nighthaw's description: "5% bonus to heavy missile Kinetic damage and 5% bonus to heavy missile precision per level" -- does this apply to HAMs too or just regular heavy launchers?

NH kin damage bonus applies to both HMs and HAMs, description is absolete, will be changed Soon™. NH explosion radius ("precision") bonus ONLY applies to HMs and not HAMs.
Rocket, HAM and Torpedo explosion radius are NEVER affected. They are always at the base value, regardless of anything that might come into play for lights/heavies/cruise. So, not affected by rigs, not by implants, not by skills. _
