Principles are fine, I was like that concerning the Raven too for the first 10 months in the game (until a corpmate showed me what kind of isk-printer the then-omgwtfpwn Jav torps were, at which point I caved in to sheer greed).
But this kind of personal bias with no logic to back it up should always stand back behind the facts of gameplay.[/quote
That's funny you know. It's not about any kind of personal bias, it is all about a ship I fly on daily basis, a ship that works just fine, a ship that can take whatever they throw at it.
And I can assure you that the shield version currently on sisi can't take much beating at all. And the dmg output isn't much either. Just give it a try and you'll see.
See if you can find the logic you're looking for.

Unfortunately, "oomph" is the sound one makes when kicked repeatedly in the ribs.

It's more or less useless to explain that the current Nightmare is fun to fly around in because of the adapting it's capable of. I too am getting tired of everyone explaining that the Raven is better for everything, and people welcome the new Nightmare because it's outperformed by the Raven. So what? Sounds like Leandro wants every ship to be logically good for him -_-
I ain't jumping into a Raven. That means I gotta spend useless time on training shield tanking skills, which I have no use for.
Now quit yapping about maths. I don't give a rats ass about it. You're putting it up in a way that you would always choose the fastest car over the old veteran car. Guess what? Not everyone does that. ---

But why don't you do it? It IS a personal bias and not a logical reason, is it not? And so you really believe such sentimentalities should affect game design? (And please don't tell me that spending one week of training for shieldtanking is a logical reason to hate a ship...)

No, not everyone. But most would as long as they can afford it. And I don't think a few nostalgics should stop what is clearly progress from an objective point of view.
I guess the ideal solution would be nightmare owners being asked whether they want their rides modified or not, but that probably is not possible.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

Currently when looking at my EVEmon, then it tells me it will take 16 days to reach proper shield tanking skills. I'm unsure if Shield Upgrades are needed, but otherwise the rest looks like something thats needed for better tanking or requirement on t2. ---

For an active tank, all you really need is Tactical Shield Manipulation 4 and Shield Operation 3. Shield Management 4 and Shield Compansation 4 are very desireable but not mandatory, everything else is optional. Does that really take 16 days?
