Hi!
I am doing lvl 4¦s in my abaddon and i do missions for a amarr agent.
I have until now used mega beams II to pew pew with. i mostly use the tactic to just sit in one place and take everything out, change crystal to get range. My setup have made me run the tank forever if i use standard crystals and that have been the think i have had as standard as it makes things easier, sure less dps but i get the job done.
now i thought i change to mega pule laser II insteed. still use the standard crystal to have no cap loss and run the tank forever. but i will gain a bit of dps. but will 35+9,6km be enough as range to use the same tactic. will i be able to hit all rags, even the one that want to be at 60km frome me? would hate to be able to start running around afther the darn rats.
i could need some advice here. this is how my setup looks now.
8x mega beams II - 1x tracking comp II 3x cap recharger II - 1x LAR II 3x hardener II 1x DC II 1x Heat Sink II 1x cpr II
What do you think Should i go for pulse or will that just make me a rat running around to get in range all the time?
Thanks
ps: i am a lazy mission runner, i run a good tank, low dps, semi-afk, not going for effective fast work. ds. --

personally i use 7x mega beam ii 1x tractor beam
4x cap charger ii or 3x cap and 1x ab
1x cpr ii 2x lar ii 1x pdu ii 3x hardener ii
3x ccc
i can run everything forever, even if lasers use multispec lenses, perhaps i could that anyway ditching one or two cap modules - |

running that setup in EFT with all skills at V it runs for 6min 28sec with both reppers online and multiq ammo. a nice setup but i lack some damage on it to be happy i guess and not using all high slots seems a waste of some sort. havent rly feelt the need of a dual rep on a mission, maybe a medium repper if so. --

I use mega pulse lasers, 40km with standard crystals (and 2 tracking computers) is plenty for range. Using radio crystals you can easily pop frigs at 60km, they still do plenty enough damage (especially if you change fittings to get a heat sink or two on). Fitting cap rigs helps a lot (the number of cap rech suggests you haven't yet), so you can drop a cap rech or 2, and fit that second tracking comp and even an ab if you want, or maybe a webber, though I'm trying to manage without one lately. The reduced fittings of pulses mean you can drop that PDU, and I've never bothered with using a DC, why not swap it for a heat sink, or a cpr II? At least you don't bother with a second rep, I've never got on with that at all!

Working well enough for me:
8 x MP II (Infrared, UV and Multifreq crystals) - 4 x Cap Recharger II - 2 x LAR 4 x Tech II Hardeners (dependant on rats) 1 x Tracking Enhancer II |

Edited by: Echon on 10/10/2007 20:08:04 I have been using pulse lasers on my Abaddon when running lvl 4 missions for a few months, and I just recently changed to beam. Sure pulse lasers do more damage, at the right range, but most battleships tend to stay out of it and changing crystals to reach their range reduces damage too much. Beam lasers do more damage at range so now I can stay in the same spot and complete the mission a lot faster than before.

mega pulse II's can reach to 50km with 9.6km falloff, which is enough to kill anything I've encountered, the only thing is crappy damage at those ranges unless you use scorch. -----------------------------------------------------

IBLS (in before Leandro Salazar!)
I use a pulse abaddon for missions, with two tracking computers and Scorch my optimal is well over 50km and dps is over 500, most stuff melts before it even gets close enough to hit me. I use 2 heatsinks and 1 large t2 repper, with a cap injector in the mids. I've never yet needed to use the injector since stuff dies so fast I rarely need to tank much anyway :)

I use Amarr Navy crystals, only for multifrequency though (coupled with a 2 or more heat sinks the rats just melt so fast, you almost feel guilty!), for long range I just use T1 crystals (standard and radio), although now you mention it the long range T2 may be worth a look.

I've never seen a huge difference on the faction crystals and they only seem to last about 5-6 missions. I'm lazy too and hate the idea of carrying extras when they are burned up. ---

8 modulated mega pulse /w MF, Std, Radio (any thing else)
1 TC II 3 Cap Recharger II
1 LAR II 3 Hardeners (2 primary 1 secondary dmg types) 3 HS II
3 CCC rigs
This is what I use for missions. Runs fine and mows drones/sansha/Bloods down fast. Plan is to kill them faster than you need to tank =P. Pretty much the only lvl 4 mission I haven't really tried in this, is enemies abound =/.
Hope that helps.

thx for some good advise here
but still i dont rly se the benefits or disadvantage using beam or pulse.
pulse sure allow a heavier tank and more damage. and mostly when i have been on mission there have not been that mutch need of a 60km range. a 40km range is enough.
what do you think? --

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 12/10/2007 09:06:43 Megapulse2 with Scorch and Navy MF is really all you need. 3 HS, 2 TCs and a little tanking on top of that and you have the perfect mission boat for Blood/Sansha/Drones that works at all required ranges.
And yes, Navy crystals are totally worth it, I still have the first set I bought in my lasers and not a single crystal has popped yet. Granted I did not mission run that much recently, but still at a guess I would say one set is good for 30-40 missions. And if you buy them with your own LP...

A mix of 2-3 Tachs and 5-6 Megabeams (more Tachs screw up your PG too much) works great in many missions where all enemies start 35+ km from you. And if you cannot use Scorch, mixing Megabeams and Pulses works great too. But T2 Megapulses and Scorch+MF is the most convenient and the most versatile approach. Maybe throw in some intermediate Navy Crystals as well. But without Scorch, an all pulse setup will fall behind a (mixed) beam setup on pretty much any mission, seeing how a lot of BSes like to orbit at 40ish km. Best thing you can do is switch your setup between pulses and beams according to mission. And no, if properly supported by TCs, Tachyons and Megabeams have no problem hitting cruisers down to 15km or even closer. If you waste all your mids on cap rechargers, this might be different of course, I wouldn't know since I don't do that. Cap injector and 2 TCs >>> 3 cap rechargers.

have been looking at a new pulse setup frome my megabeam setup... my beam setup work greate now, just interessted if i can do better with pulse. this is what i come up with...
8x megapulse II 2x TC II 1x cap recharger II 1x heavy elec booster 1x LAR II 3x Hardener II 1x cpr II 2x Heat Sink II - 3x CCC
reason i fit 1 cpr and one cap recharger is to atleast not have to pump the booster when i am repping... give me a few extra time to work with. no booster gives me 2min 38sec with repper and guns online. only 2 guns online i run repper forever and let the drones work. can change cpr in low slot to heat sink or dc/eanm if needed.
gives me a range of 19km with multi and 640dps if i snipe i use standard crystals with 39km and 427dps or i go wild and use scorch and have 58km and 586dps. not counting drones here.
looks nice imo... what do you think? i have the dps to take out stuff at range and will pwn at close range as many bs (merc) like to be there to and cruisers etc will instapop on there way to me :)
btw 9,6km faloff aswell

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 12/10/2007 11:40:57 That setup is pretty solid. Eventually you will find that you still tank too much (at least when you start fitting 64% hardeners which you should, at least the EM one was fairly cheap last time I checked) and replace either the CPR or one of the hardeners with a 3rd HS (get faction HS too once you have the money), and in some missions an AB helps you more to finish faster than the CR2 (gate travel), but this is a good base to work from.
As far as the cap booster goes though, the best approach is to run the guns forever, and cycle the repper as needed, fed by the occasional booster charge to keep cap regen from dropping below peak. Keep in mind that you don't have to finish the mission with 100% armor, I usually only try to keep it at 50% (or just 25% when I have a DC fitted which I often do out of paranoia) during a fight and then rep back up during gate travel and/or warp alignment when the guns have no targets and the cap can feed the repper without booster support. And I always come back with cap charges to spare.

thanks! ill try this setup and se how it goes my plan is to do some missions, get the LP or the isk and cash out some implants to increase damage etc. 5% implants i think it was that i looked on.
then my plan was to upgrade the ship with a faction repper and then faction hardeners. but that will take a while, dont want to pimp ro fast and have other goals for the isk :)

Originally by: Therese Law i tend to think it¦s not only bs that do most damage... and tachyons havent they problems hitting other stuff than bs ships?
what setup are you using with them?
My current setup is for blood/sansha missions only as use Raven for rest.
Hi = 5 x Anode Tachyon, 2 x Dual Modulated Heavy Beam , 1 x Limos Cruise.
Mids = 3 x Eutetuc CR, 1 x TCII
Lows = 1 x EM HardenerII, 2 x Thermic HardenerII, 1 x Local CPR, 2 x 1600mm Tungsten, 1x Carapace LAR
This gives me over 21K Armor and I use T2 drones for the frigs and cruisers. It's not a full T2 fit, but only use it for fun on those missions where Raven not perfect, but it does a grand job. Have to manage cap with the Navy Multifrequency, but that could easily be fixed with some rigs (i dont have any fitted).
I might try a Mega Pulse setup to compare performance. Good luck,

Your setup is actually horrible. Doing a grand job and fitting no damage mods is mutually exclusive. I wonder what your Raven fit must be for you to think this does great... And plates on PvE ships are epic fail. You would do well to read and comprehend the advice in this thread.

Well if you run missions in a setup that takes as long as possible because they are so much fun to you, don't say it does a grand job Doing a grand job at missions = good isk/time.

I was mearly asked for my setup and gave it. I was not proposing at as an kind of uber setup, its just the setup I use. The fun is doing them with some corp mates who cant do lvl4's solo and just having 'fun'. Giving them chance to use their cruisers and bc's in levels and get used to it. I just flop around doing what I want. If I wanted to do them fast I would just use my Raven
Not quite sure why you want to have a go at me, but Isk/time sounds like a job. Fun ftw.

Well for me getting isk and finishing the missions fast is fun, the numbers are just keeping score. (And of course the isk helps to pimp my rides which is my prime source of fun in the game). But to each his own. Still wouldn't it be even more fun even for you with a better setup? The Abaddon can easily outclass the Raven on any Blood/Sansha/Drone mission...
