Hello, I just took a look at the new T2 BS's, nice ships BUT one thing stuck out at me like a sore thumb jammed into my eye!
The Typhoon T2 ship named Panther?
To me the name Panther tells of agility, sleekness, beauty.
While the Typhoon is one of my favorite ships in this game both to fly and designwize nither of those three words come even close to describing it.
Then we have a look at the Raven T2 ship, Golem.
The name Golem to me tells of a slow relentless quality designed for purpouse not beauty, true it can be with some imagination applied to the Raven but it by far is more suitable for the ugly duckling of a marvel of a ship that is the Typhoon.
Panther to me would be a fully acceptable name for the T2 Raven however, Raven pilots may disagree but given that the Ravens missiles rake across the void as it prowls its pray... well you get my drift.
So, what is your opinion?

well I agree with it kinda... but doesn't the T2 typhoon have 165 m/s base speed??? that things fast as hell.
and it hides in the shadows untill... it's attacks!!
At the same time, I don't think golem works for raven at all. unless that thing tanks really well. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

No stats of the T2 Typhoon will ever change what it looks like, Panther it is not.
It may be that Golem is not auitable ither but... well hiding in shadows till it attacks... how else would a Golem get hold of anything :)

Golem sounds more Caldari...cause of...of...umm...

A golem is a construct made of inanimate matter...clay, faeces etc...which is animated by its creator using magical incantations. The golem then obeys its creators commands, but in a slow and clumsy manner.
Yep sounds like a Raven to me...seriously though it is a bad name for any ship, and completely out of character with normal Caldari bird/dragon/arachnid naming conventions.
It should be dropped completely while there is still time.

So essentially it's a magic robot made of crap.
I think it should be called the Ostrich to keep with the birds and ****. Feer mah Ostrich!

True, however the Jaguar has a sleek feel to its design, the wolf feels as if it has a bite, we then have cheetah, hound... The cougar... well cant really place it but Im sure the name fits the ship design but now look at the Typhoon...
Do you honestly think the name Panther sums the ship upp?
I love the design of the ship, it has a Red Dwarf quality that to me gives it a sence of reality, with no friction to speak of why make the ship aerodynamic?
I meen lets face it, people are right, it does look like a flying trash can but to me that is a damn sweet look for a tough ship.
Panther however... cant really get my head round that, hell even Mj÷lner would be a better name especially as it ties into the norse mythology names many minmatar ships have been named after... actually it would be a very suitable name :)
On Golem, dont forget its a Talmud cration, the name coes from the Jewish mythology... also you would write its task on a piece of paper and place in the golem...
So I like mythologies... :)

Im more worried about the new Minmatar t2 cruiser....I mean broadsword wtf? Could they not think of a cooler and more awesome sounding sword based name? Like kitana or masamune or excalibur or xiphos or ANYTHING ELSE!
As for Panther imo it is a logical progression of t2 minmatar naming conventions and fits a typhoon based ship well. As for the Golem, well it is definately not a Minmatar name thats for sure. As a Caldari ship it fits the naming convention of mythical creatures and it suits a tanked out mission monster, but Caldari shipnames have tended to go for either flighted or agile creatures but hey I doubt the t2 Raven is gonna be at all agile.

Warthog... I kind of like that, not a pretty animal but very effective in its own sence.
Personally I would however prefer a name from the norse mythology, Grendel perhaps or Gymer, Miming, Mj÷lner, SSrimner, Trym...
Anyway, I just cant see a ship with the Typhoon base be called Panther.
As for a more suitable sword name for the minnie cruiser... why not pick a named sword from the nordic myths like SkrSp or Tyrfing.

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 11/10/2007 16:05:37 I suppose it's called panther, because it's a blackops ship. Panther = sneaking up on the target silently/unseen and then maybe attacking. That's at least the picture I have in mind.
Golems get noticed from 1+ mile away I guess. ___________ I've never been so serious as I am now. No, really. |

Gollum is indeed somewhat strange, usually Caldari ships are named after birds (Raven, Vulture, Eagle, Drake, Crow, Phoenix, Rook, Kestrel etc.) while Golem is an animated being from Jewish folklore, created entirely from inanimate matter and is only in line with the Leviathan. My skills |

Edited by: Pirate Tom on 11/10/2007 16:40:52 Gallente is primarily Greek Mythology, with some Sumerian and Phoenecian as well as other mediterranian cultures... and a few funny names, like Vexor and Brutix (Which seem to fit with each other)
Amarr is all about the religious heraldry. From the Punisher to the upcoming Paladin and Redeemer. Easy enough.
Minmatar .. Norse mythos in alot of the bigger ships, Smaller ones are named oddly but follow patterns like Sword names, (Rapier, Claymore), predatory animals, or apparently things that just sound cool, like Reaper Rifter and Burst...
Caldari is more or less avian, or at least things that supposedly can fly. Except for all the ones that cant.. like Scorpions and Chimera (which is from Greek Mythology), and Leviathan which is from Judeo-christian mythos and was presumably a sea serpent or possibly whale of some kind... I guess breaching counts as flying.
So, the only race that really follows one pattern is the Amarr. the other races have a general theme and then just whatever the devs thought sounded decent for the rest. |
