Currently there is a huge demand for Mechanical Engineering datacores. With the upcoming T2 BS I estimate the demand will increase even more. Currently ME datacores do > 2M each at Jita. (Up from 1.5M each last month).
What do you need? Surf to http://www.eve-agents.com and find out which R&D agents give out ME datacores.
A quick way to get access to these agents is the following path. Start doing missions for the Kaalakiota Corporation. There is a good lvl3 combat agent in Nausschie. I find the combat missions are less boring than the hauling missions ;-)
The Kaalakiota Corporation has 3 lvl3 R&D agents and 2 lvl4 agents with ME as a research field.
What skills do I need for R&D agents? Research lvl5 Laboratory operation lvl5 Research projectmanagement lvl4 (gives you access to 5 agents) Science lvl5 Mechanical Engineering lvl4 or lvl5
At ME lvl5 you will gain per agent 86 rps per day. So 5 agents is 5*86=430 rps. Each datacore costs 50 rps, so you have 430/50=8.6 per day. At 2M each datacore its about 17M isk per day.
It takes some time to invest into getting the skills up to the required level. But once you have the agents, the rps come rolling in each day. Even when your account is inactive! A friend of mine just cashed in on 2700 datacores!

it takes months to grind up standings and skills to do, months that could be better spent running high quality kill agents. if you spend that time on running normal kill agents instead you'll make far, far more isk. even long term. also, kaalakiota doesnt have 5 L4 high quality mech agents, there's barely 5 in the whole game so your theoretical 17m a day number is just that, theoretical. you just cant get that.
but nice advice, if i was an inventor i'd tell people to do it as well so i could make more isk

Read my mail, I never said there where 5 lvl4 agents. And with lvl5 ME I have on average 86rps per agent.

Reason for that is your high faction standings towards caldary. R&D agents take minimum corp and faction standings. Well you can substitute faction standings with corp standings. So if you have low faction you will need to grind your corp standings all the way up to 5.8 to get acsess to all of them. However if you have already faction for caldary at 5.8+ then all you need is corp standings 3.3 to Kaalakiota to acsess all those agents.
As far as grinding speed goes. It is less than month. Hard and annoying if you start from low but Drake, no looting (just chaining missions) and you will get there in week or 2.

Faction or Corp grinding does not take months.
I started an Alt char with the sole intention of getting her ready for the invention in Rev III. She was 1 week old when she was able to use every Lai Dai agent in the game.
The recipe was that my main did all of the missions for her while she waited in station. A level 1-2 fight mission takes 2-5 minutes a level 3 mission takes 5-10 minutes and a level 4 mission takes 20-40 minutes. Most low level fight missions want you to shoot some tower or get some poor damsel or militant and that with a decent BC fitted with AB goes fast
As far as the skills go, choose Caldari Achura and all you need to train is Intelligence and memory apart from cybernetics to 4. After that you will be learning the science skills with +2700 SP/hour
Now i know not everyone can afford 2 accounts or has an allmost 3 year old pvp char to help them but i just wanted to state some facts. ******************************

Totally agree I took my Boundless standings to 3.3 unmodified in 3 or 4 days using a lvl 2 combat agent, started out in a vex but changed to a Myrm, if in system 5 minutes is too long per mission. lvl 2 rats with a BC and skills pop one per gun/drone, takes longer to target them than kill them. Autotargeter II ftw.
faction would take a bit longer though.
I also agree with the OP's statements and motives. (I am not an inventor) I have 5 mech eng agents, and get 430 RP's per day (Mech eng lvl 4) that is 16 mill at current buy prices, 24 mill at sell prices (Sinq laison) if I actually log on and do the missions you can double that.

As far as I'm aware daily RP rewards are not security dependant unlike LP. Only things affecting your RP per day are your skills, agent skills and to minor effect agent effective quality (depending on social skills and research corp standings towards you).

You either love trolling the forums, have a pile of datacores that you want to sell for a price, or you don't understand how Research Agents work.
Research Agents give you RPs, even while not running missions for them. So if you train a few skills you can get these Research Agents working for you even while you go do your other agents missions that make you more money. So the question is really, extra 17 Mil per day? Not extra 17 Mil per day? Even if 17 Mil was theoretical, and you only make, say 3 or 4 Mil per day, at the end of the month, or whatever, go cash in the RPs for Datacores, sell them, and make a good 100 Mil a month for not doing much. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Yes. I use 100 to 120 ME datacores each day. With my three characters I can only generate 15.6 per day. So I rely on the market. The ME datacore price is going up, but I can't put the price increase into the tech2 product, since I'm competing with bpo owners.
I have two alternatives: quit invention and wait until the prices are coming down. Or create awareness around ME datacores and hope people are jumping the bandwagon and create more ME datacores. I chose the latter.

I predict ME cores will reach ~4M when the xpac is out with all the new shinies only available through invention. No bpo producers to compete with, its going to be a win win situation for inventors and R&D mission runners.
However, the starship cores will also see a significant increase in demands as well.. and we'll see how it balances out with people dropping their starship eng agents to get ME ones.
Anyhow, the mission grinding to get good L4 agents require 2 corps as there's no single R&D corp with more than 2 high quality L4 ME agents. That's a lot of grind.. and will drive a lot of people nuts. :D

Help may be at hand, one entrepreneour (Sp?) has created an RP farming corp with 24 researchers on 8 accounts. he has just raised an IPO that sold out before actual issue, next stage is next month and from the interest will also be gone as soon as released.
The Researchers sole employment for the first 24 weeks is skilling and raising standings to access the agents. seeing how much interest has been shown so far and the bickering of those that wanted in at the start, I predict this is only the first of many such enterprises, some will be genuine like this one and some just scams. wait and see.
End result will be a constant volume of cores to the market and if one is oversupplied, he just changes to another type.

Your problem, as for all inventors, aren't the T2 BPO owner, but the people that think datacores they produce are free, so don't need to be factored in the sell price of finished items.

This is true. If the item is worth inventing than the T2 BPO owners would already be running their production lines at 100% capacity. It is people who under value one or more aspects of the invention process who will push invention below the break even point.
The only place where you need to worry about competition from the T2 BPO owners is in the items where their production capacity meets or exceeds demand. In those cases there is simply not enough demand to start invention.

Yes, and those two corps only have low level security agents. The Kaalakiota Corporation has a good lvl3 combat mission agent. And this corp has 3 lvl3 and 2 lvl4 ME research agents. This is the fastest corp to get to ME agents that I can think of.

That's complete lunacy! With a few exceptions--which I am certainly not going to go into here--the cost of the datacores used in invention is almost always more than what the invented items can sell for, even with 100% success rate on the invention jobs.
By selling your invented items for less than the value of the datacores you used in invention, not even mentioning the components used to actually build the things, you are throwing away isk on a grand scale.
In most cases, it isn't even worthwhile inventing items for myself--it is cheaper and easier to just buy them off the market from people who insist at selling everything they build at a loss.
Right now--or at least until CCP adjusts the number of runs you can get from an invention job to help absorb the cost of the cores--invention is, for the most part, for suckers.
It is bad enough that inventors do have to compete with BPO holders, but we could still all make a profit if some inventors weren't so daft as to sell their items for so much less than it costs to make them.

It's not worth it , i have 5 research agents and the time it takes to get all the skill and standing is about 3 months . Besides the cost of the datacores will decrease a lot when Rev III is deployed . So you spend 3 months of training standings + science + social to end up whit about 5 mil per day .

I would be curious to see the math which indicates you are not throwing away isk. Every time I do the math on something I want to invent, I almost always end up coming up with a value--based on what I could sell the datacores for--that is more per item than what each item actually sells for on the market.
When you are using 2m isk worth of datacores to produce an item that only sells for 1m isk--and you haven't even put in the cost of building the item--it seems to me that you would be better off simply selling the datacores and not bothering with invention at all.
Granted, some invention jobs still have room for profit, but if you've admitted that "...but I can't put the price increase into the tech2 product, since I'm competing with bpo owners." then I don't know what conclusion I can come to other than you are selling at a loss because you don't work in the price of your datacores to your sale price.

Sense the poster is the person who has a vested interest in Datacore production and is betting on making money on them it is strange that he would post something like this.
But if I were to guess the reason for datacores coming down after three months is the 75 datacore producing alts he is making that are going to be coming online.

Edited by: Contralto on 16/10/2007 00:55:35 Dont forget to add the many people like myself who have large quantities of Cores and will sell around the release of Rev III and the months following.
I have enough of one kind to fill all current buy orders in several Gallente regions. I realise that I have to release them slowly or the price will crash the same day.
Prices now are held down because of the profit limits on current T2 items, the new T2 ships, all 16 to 20 of them will create a huge demand and with no BPO's the price of the new ships is free to float according to material supply and demand, that 1 Billion per Marauder or Blackops will mean inventors can easily foot the high datacore prices, but demand for the ships will soon reduce the price of ships and datacores will drop accordingly, with supply being met by the profit takers.
This is the point where anyone with a stock of cores will take profits, resulting in a rapid deflation in the price. A little later, (few months) all the people currently skilling to get on the Core bandwagon will start producing cores in much larger quantities, thus taking up the slack.
Take a look through the many posts from people wanting R&D standings and info on Datacore production. Matalino is correct just wait and see.
And his 72 characters producing cores will be paid for by dozens of large and small investors. so its not one mans doing, but many. You can bet he isnt the only one planning mass production. I know of many who have 2 to 3 accounts worth of characters producing or skilling for production. My 5 Agents pay for GTC's for my 2 accounts, plenty of incentive right there.
Supply and demand, it works so effectively in Eve.

I dunno why people are saying it takes months to grind the standings. If you're on an alt or you are just starting the game maybe, but if you just do the lvl 1 and 2 missions with an ishtar without looting and then the lvl 3s with a domi, you'll be at the 5.3 standings you need for all 5 kaalakiota agents in less than a week.
For extra fun, move on to lvl 4 agents (starting at 5.1 standings), join in with an alt in an oneiros and add up to 3 more alts. Pull as much as you can, kill fast, skip the looting and split the mission standings with the alts.
Now get out there and grind it out so you can help lower the cost of the datacores.
