i have a maelstrom and a hurricane... So the question is what is the best armor tank setup for the maelstrom and hurricane...
i have tech 2 rechargers and armor hardners and passive hardeners... and large drones and all the guns a toystore would carry....
ANY INPUT would BE Great....

Edited by: Sekh Ondaari on 10/10/2007 23:43:27 Is it just me, or does the words "malestrom" and "armortank" make you think of bananahammocks?
And my first question about the "malestrom" is, why armor tank it?
Second question is about the hurricane, whats wrong with the setups in the sticky and their armor tanks?

Hurricane can be a good armor tank. I generally use 3x active t2 hardeners with 2x LAR II and a Damage Control II. But for the love of god, do not armor tank a Maelstrom. Look at its ship bonus and slot setup.

The best armor tanked Maelstrom involves filling the lows with 800mm armor plates and EM armor hardeners (gotta plug that hole).

A shieldtanked Mael tanks a blasterthron w/ 3 Magstab IIs and 7 Neutron IIs, max skills.
An armortanked Mael is viable but doesn't really shine at anything. Damage and tank is subpar, the only bonus being you can fit lots of EW or tackle in its bountiful midslots.

Um...let me start off by saying dont. Anyway, I present to you a waste of a ship made possible by eft and insomia.
Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Large Armor Repairer II Large Armor Repairer II
100MN MicroWarpdrive II Heavy Capacitor Booster II Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II Heavy Capacitor Booster II Stasis Webifier II
800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II
580 or so DPS with barrage with 4's or 5's in relevant skills. Tanks about 400dps while the cap boosters last.
Just dont.

I've fitted an armor tank on a Maelstrom for some level 4 Em/Therm missions, the extra resists actually make it viable. The tank was slightly more effective than the shield boosted one, at the cost of swapping Gyros for Target Painters and Tracking Computers.
Using a Tempest or a Typhoon in those situations is probably a better move.

Why? Why would you even consider performing such a travesty?! What did the Maelstrom EVER do to you?! Why do you hate it so much?! *Sob* You're just a mean, evil cold hearted jerk! *Sniffle*

This is why you should shield tank it. And let us never speak of armour tanked Maelstroms again...

2729 m/s with an excess of 400 dps so it can easily kill a tanked maelstrom
And yeah, the key part in this setup is the invuln field! I opted for this to make sure it stayed under 5000m2 signature (currently at 4944m2 with the mwd on)

I don't know a armor tanked maelstorm could be god dam deadly in pvp.
As the first thing people are gona do it think jackpot shield tanker lack of Ewar and fly in to attack in the hope of draining the cap to brake the tank only to be jammed to hell.
Over all pvp wise its a raven only it has guns in favor of missile's but same basic ewar armor tank fit.
PVE i can't see a reason why you could ever want to armor tank when the bonus make's it better at tanking even vs lazer based rat's with the right set up. !

No, because both of the raven's bonuses are for its weapons so you aren't wasting anything there, while one of the maelstrom's bonuses is for shield boosting. You say goodbye to that with armor tanking. So you end up with crappy dps and crappy tank (even for minnie standards) in exchange for a couple of mids. No real advantage over a phoon or a pest.
