fitting out a bomber in the manner described would be humorus, if a bit psychotic, even if it fit. Bombers are as thin as paper and survive by stealth, not going fast or tanking.

As if freaking smartbombs are not bad enough, bombs sure doesn't need any kind of boosts.
Bombs are here to 'harass' ships and add some damage like smartbombs do. Got a carrier/drone problem? Drop a couple bombs. Add a smartbomb BS or two and voila. It's NOT a mini DDD and it will NEVER be.
Damn, you really make it a sport to show up with dumb replies in each and every thread on this forum, don't you? It would be no problem if you'd have something constructive to add, but in general you don't! Get a different hobby!

Lockbreaker bomb would be useful if: much much much bigger strength!! 30km blast radius, 100km bumping radius!!
Say u have nasty ceptors keeping carrier in place so it cant do ****... and you decide to fly in with manty + lockbreaker to help your mate, quess what! its worthless cuz no ceptor will lose the lock!!wht? cuz ceptors orbit like 20 km + ????

Nowadays only ships on battlefield are: interceptors, interdictors, BS, heavy assault ships, command ships, force recon!
Interceptors are actually between those two groups because new interceptor is an a VAGABOND! cool ay?

Yes, bombs are completely overpriced, even @ 10 M. It'as a simple question of cost/kill. Who wants to spend even 1.000 isk per point of damage ?
Yes, Bombers should get a speed bonus, because the main problem for a Bomber is not to drop a bomb or approach unnoticed, it's to get in the right position. And that takes ages @ 600 m/s.
Should Bombers get Covops cloaks ? Dunno, really. I'd love to be able to fit one, tho.
Are Bombers overpowered ? Certainly not : apart from frigates, their 3 launchers have a slow ROF, and launching more than one volley = you're targeted and dead soon. Bombs ? Nah... let's be serious.
Bombers start to become effective in small groups, but then approaching a target become dangerous because of the risk of mutual uncloaking.
Tho I really love this ship, in its present state it is merely a "funny" support ship but not effective, even with a full-ganking setup (3 CML-COCD, SB, 3 BCS). |

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole point of Stealth Bombers to simply do damage to an opposing fleet, making it easier for your guys to take them out? Not so much wtfpwn the entire fleet, but soften them up a bit before your big guns start firing?

The point of bombs as expressed by the devs is to break up blobs and make it less "safe" to be in a huge blob. Right now they arent that good at it because the bombs dont have the punch to make the battleships fear them.

What I want to know...
Is how do the lock breakers perform? Did you test these at all?
To me I think this bomb would be the best, instead of trying a gank scenario, have a lock breaker fly in and EMP the tracking electronics for 15-30 secs. I've not tried them yet, so is purely hypothetical so is why im asking..
Do these even work? Are they crap all, chanced based like current ECM? (ie no chance ;p ) If they do work, why are they not used (proly answered my own question there )

Biggest problem for bombing is actually having the enemy BS stay sat in a position for long enough to setup a bombing run, at present that would be on a POS.
The next big problem is that in order to use the bombs effectively your client needs not to be lagging because of the huge fight going on.
I'd like to see some boost to getting the stealth bombers to the target. Either a cloaked speed increase - which would need to be major - or some form of special warp ability so that a bomber could warp to a large blob using a special scanner - maybe something similar to the onboard scanner for cosmic signatures - although that could cause major problems with using a stealth bomber to simply drop a short range gang right ontop of snipers too quickly rendering them useless.
I don't have the answer to how it should be implimented but bombers need to be able to get to target more easily and deliver a worthwhile payload for the expenditure.
Hopefully as more and more people start using the new client and their fancy GPU's lag may be reduced, along with the need for speed improvements.

Anybody who thinks that stealth bombers with the ability to dissuade blobbing would be a remotely balanced gameplay mechanic, is kidding themselves. Helllooooo! Wake up to yourselves. You're trying to shoe-horn an inherently broken concept into a useless ship just to make that ship useful. Dumb.
Stealth bombers are... not... the solution. A good temporary solution would be to remove them from the game and concentrate on the PR spin needed to reverse out of this stupid carrier/mom nerf. Consider that SBs never have and never will have a role that can't be done better by something else. They're a toy. I'd much rather see people in dictors, AFs, HACs, battleships, CS, battle-cruisers, etc.
The blob debate needs to move closer to the root causes of blobbing: the fact that biological organisms form the majority of EVE subscribers. Safety in numbers etc. Fix that (loooool) and you'll fix blobbing. If you even wanted to... which is a dumb idea anyway because you'd have to implement fundamentally flawed and non-intuitive gameplay mechanics to do it. Force people to not seek and run with others? Non-intuitive. Broken.
Gawd. What a load of cr4p this whole thread is.

Bombs are far too expensive. The idea of a 20 million bomb being used as 'harassment' is just silly.

With current implementations, I think you would do much better by sticking your SB pilots in battleships and have them help take down the primary.
I believe bombs are supposed to make it dangerous to stay too blobbed: as such, they need to be less hideously expensive and slightly more damaging against cruisers and up. I'm fine with them not being used as 'insta pop' weapons on frigates.
Also, it should not be so hard for a bomber to escape getting hit with his own bomb blast :p

Your comment about putting the SB pilots in battleships shows one-dimensional, non-creative thinking. Think out of the box a bit. Agony uses SBs a lot and very effectively.
The problem with the bombs is not so much their firepower but the fact that they blow each other up to well. If that blob doesn't want to get hit by bombs there are a thousand ways to avoid it if they are paying attention. I am tired of people advocating turning the game into a one dimensional battle of pure firepower.

only problem i see with bombs is that they can be destroyed very easily and that their range is ridicules small.
remove the ability to destroy them by giving them a 99,9% resist to all dmg types.
increase their explosion range to 50km.
let a stealthbomber have a special "resist" against bombs, making it almost immune to the effect of bombs, or let it warp out before the bomb goes of and still let the bomb go off with full effect.

Are you aware of the fact that bombs now cost half cause you get 2 instead of one so the price per unit should be 7-8 mil or less now.
What is with Neutralizerbombs arnt they nice to make ships running out of energy?
Whats with overall Damage? If i make 1500 Damage to 20 Battleships with one shot that would be 30.000 Damage ,sure divided over many ships, but that dosnt sound too bad.
Like Threadstarter says it seems not to be a blobkiller but seems like a nice addition in the blob vs blob thing to maybe put the favor on your side.
Another Question didnt try for myself. Why not tostand still 20-25km range of enemys decloak launch bomb then cloak after 3 seconds and fly in some random destination backwards or just decloak drop bomb and warp away?
But i strongly agree that more than 4 bombs should able to be launched simultaniously when bombs where introduced devs says 8? Bombs are possible the ninth will kill all others.

They just need be be 1-2 mil each so that their low damage is offset by the ability to use them in larger numbers.
EDIT: There needs to be a skill to lower the fuse delay. Make it level 6 or something time consuming for higher levels. Each level takes 1 second off of the explosion delay.(yes high skill levels makes it highly likely that you will cook yourself unless you have well, high piloting skills)
This would make it very much harder for people to avoid the things.

I fired some yesterday and it was nice. Best is that the bombs move foreward now. So you can wait 20km away, then decloak, instant launch bomb, and cloak after 3 seconds aggain and fly away in a random direction. And it should be possible without problems to attack in waves this way so that the bombs dont kill the other bombs.
As example: All bombers wait 25km away from target 3-4 bomber fly to 20km range launche bombs, cloak aggain and fly away. Next 3 or 4 bombers fly from 25 to 20km range and after explosion of first wave imediate decloak and launch bombs then cloak and so on.. So a wave of bombs detonate every 10-15 seconds.
My thermal ones in a kinetic Cov-ops did 3500Damage to a group of abbout 10-15 Bs. (that was written on the screen) So 2 or 3 waves (lets say 10 Ships) with 10 bombs should do 35000 Damage i dont know what a bs can take but it could be a serious Problem for the Bsgroup. Costs for 10 Bomber are 50mil if you buy the right one, Some cheap fitting and 10 Bombs go for about 70 Mil now.. So with 10 People and for teh price of 1 Bs you possibly get a Bs-Blob Shredder that only the right smartbombs could stop.
In my try i launched 2 Bombs in abbout 1 or 2 Minutes but i could have done it bit faster i think. Enemy could not stop the bomb or lock me, later they sent a Dictor with Bubble after me but for my luck he didnt catch me but i think a group of 10 bomber (mabye with 2 or 3 Cruisemisslebomber for the dictor) you have not to fear this dictor in worst case you loose 1 or 2 of your cheep ships.. In my case i was alone so i could not do seriuos damage but the explosion looked very mighty :) and it felt like this could be a very serious anti non cap blob weapon if you come with the right numbers.
