Howdy all I have a question and am hoping some of you old(er) space dogs may be able to help me out.
I have just joined a corp that is, or was, on the decline til recently - joined cos of the people not the prospects!
A couple of days back an obvious alt approached the Corp offering a (to us) vast amount of money to build a POS in empire (anywhere we chose) but mainly in Essence, Sing Liaison or VV regions. They came bearing very gucci gifts and the vast amount of iskies has us all a bit confused as to their motivations. I mean these are month old characters flying BS's Obelisks etc, and they know the game very well.
Now we have characters applying to join who are also alts and sound really odd - as in they just don't sound "right"
The benefactors say that all they want is the use of the POS - but threaten that if we don't do as they approve, then some carriers could pop up on our horizons (gulp!).
I mean what the hell could they be up to? We know there is dodginess going on - but cannot for the life of us work out what or why. I mean, we are in 0.5 space at lowest - so concord wd be on em in a second if they were up to badness (unless they wardec someone of course - god forbid that was us)!!
Can anyone give me some sorta tactical/strategic ideas as to their possible motivations? What could they gain from a POS in Hi Sec, why would they want a pet Noob corp? Why give us such good kit to sweeten us up ... and large amounts of money?

As you are posting a valid query regarding Corporations I shall not delete your thread, however, I will lock it until such time as you enable your Corp ticker.
Please look to the tabs on the left. You will see a tab called "Forums". Click on this and then on the "Settings" tab. Check the "Show Corporation" box and then update settings.
Mail us at [email protected] when you have your corp ticker showing and I shall re-open your thread.

Unfortunately the University of Caille is a Non Player Corporation and players from that Corp may not post in CAOD.

Don't worry about carriers - they can't get into 0.5

Ok so no carrier threat, that's a nice thing - but I do feel that these characters could knock us into the nearest black hole with a fairly effortless slap.
As to taking the money and running .... well I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought of that but the thought of being hunted around anywhere I like working sounds like no fun at all - plus it would be dishonest

They can not get you in NPC corporation, even if they really tried and left cookies for Evil Santa.
I would take all the cash they offered and gave them a finger, then do the Peter Griffin "Cant Touch Me" dance.

Yes, YES!!! thats the EVE way, they threaten u? play the nice guy, squeeze em for as much as possible and run, better still, they want to use the pos? let them!!! Yes u read me right! LET THEM!!! chances are they want to use it for bpo research, make sure u have atleast 1 person in corp who has full access, and check the pos regularly, as soon as they stick in some of their valuables, u take everything!!!

Either take what they offer and run or politely tell them to get lost.
The fact that they see fit to threaten you if you don't agree to put up the POS makes this sound 100% dodgy.
They will likely get you to erect the POS then stop your members from getting access.
It sounds like they are setting you up for a scam of some sorts.
ps Name the chars and their Corps.Maybe they have a history of this sort of thing.

possibly. smelled less like a scam and more like isk farmers trying to appear legitimate to me. new alts with huge amounts of ISK doesn't sound right.

Cant name the Characters atm or the Corp but we all smell a rat with it - the idea of ISK farmers is probably out as these guys not only have a lot of iskies but also have the skills that make them waaay out of the reach of the age of them. I personally suspect alts of a lo standing nature, or something like that ...
I just wish they'd be honest and say what exactly it is they want ... unless it is indeed a scam - but what could they gain by it? I mean our total wealth doesnt even make 10% of what they are offering us!

are pos needed for invention and stuff?maybe thats what they are trying to get you to set 1 up for?
i remember a post somewhere(2 or 3 weeks ago)that a new player said he joined a corp with a lot of newer players and then the ceo left,joined another corporation and then told them they had to work as slaves and send isk to his new corp or be war deccd.
anyone remember that?

Important thing to note: Members of your own corp are allowed to kill you everywhere without fearing retribution by CONDORD! So accepting "strange alts" into your corp may be a bad idea.
I also don't see exactly what trick they are trying to pull off (if any) but CONCORD will NOT protect you from your own corp members.
So what I would do is take everything they give you and then make a new corp and only invite people you trust. |
