I guess if MS really wanted to buy CCP they could do it. It would have to be a friendly take over since I think CCP is privatly owned. I'm sure if bill gates walked into CCP's headquarters and dropped a check for a billion dollars on the desk CCP would get real friendly. Just think about all the whinny petitions that they wouldnt have to listen to anymore and all the smacktards on the forums that know best how to run their game.

Originally by: Montague Zooma I've had dinner with Steve Ballmer. Nice guy. No screaming. He didn't even throw a chair at me.
If CCP's owners could make a killing selling out to MS or anyone else while screwing over the players in the process...you gotta admit it would be in keeping with the spirit of this game. Pwned!
I bet dinner was babies with a side of deep fried baby seal all washed down with a fresh decanter of virgin blood.

Edited by: Twin blade on 12/10/2007 20:49:08 Edited by: Twin blade on 12/10/2007 20:48:05 EA would destroy this game in seconds thats for sure.(there game's are so bad i would not download them if i was in to that)
Blizzard would turn it in WOW and add space elf's but you would see walking in a starbase faster as they push hard to get 13 year's olds loging in to jack off form a space elf.
SOE yer SWG but that game was based off a poor set of movie's and was crap any way best thing they did was to destroy it.
MS just most likey dumb it down so much it would be like playing hello kitty online with guns that do 0.1 cuteness damage. Halo is not that good http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2304-Zero-Punctuation-Halo-3
Over all there is no one i would trust other than CCP to run this game well as long as they lock the nerf bat up. !

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Anything is possible I guess, but I haven't heard anything like this, and it doesn't feel like something our leadership would plan for CCP's future.
And I hope greed does not come into consideration if such a large entity should approach CCP. I believe, CCP is profitable as it stands, and from the looks of it, everybody is doing very well.
EVE is no doubt your baby, and much enjoyed and cherished amongst many people. What CCP has here, is similar to what Apple has. More than a business minded customer base, but a sentimental following that will keep you afloat, as Macintosh fans kept Apple afloat through all the years; of which, every year supposedly Apple was going out of business but never even came close.
The moment, CCP forfeits it's assets and wealth to a larger entity, it surrenders it's possibility of ever becoming such an entity itself.
The following is extremely valuable and important to consider CCP. One day, kids will flock to something else, and many workers currently working on WarCraft will either move to other projects or get fired. CCP will never be in such a position, where your boon becomes bane on account of ever changing socio-economic trends. This is the appeal and security found in ALL niche markets.
Please, keep doing what you're doing, and do NOT regard any deals that might put authority over your heads. CCP is my company, EVE-ONLINE is my game. And no, no one else can have my stuff.

Microsoft must be looking for ways to keep PC gaming viable for its operating system, lets face it if you could play EVE on a console most of us would buy one, but microsoft doesn't want keyboard/mouse for its console so it needs to shore up the pc gaming market because Sony are making keyboard/mouse viable for its PS3. Thats why microsoft are pushing Crysis as a DX10 game although they dont publish or develope it. Getting into the mmo market is another way to sell its operating system so I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft did buy an mmo developer with experience. It needs one because a big seller for PC's in the past was its games, but that is not so relevant now because consoles have caught up on the gfx front, but consoles at the moment cant compete with mmo's so maybe this is Microsofts strategy (in the near future) for advertising its operating system. I wouldn't mind Microsoft throwing money at CCP to continue improving EVE, as long as it meant no dumbing down of the game.

Originally by: Hybrid Horror Edited by: Hybrid Horror on 12/10/2007 13:27:54 Hi I have heard rumours from a Microsoft UK employee that they are looking at buying CCP, the reasoning behind this is that the company is profitable and gives them access to new MMORG technology.
Has anyone else heard this? Before I get flamed to hell about this, this is WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD from a reliable source and no I don't have proof atm.
HH
There is a pretty big difference between looking at possibly buying and making a decision to buy something. I do actually consider Microsoft buying CCP to be a possibility, but that is not something that I would like to happen. It is also note something that I believe will happen.
A bonus (and actually a major reason I think) is that they don't want more stuff available for linux.
Now, the reason why I doubt that it'd happen (even though I consider it to be possible) is the reason the devs started making the game in the first place, and the reason they bought it back after having sold the rights to it. They care about making good games, and I think they don't really care if someone wants to buy the company.

Poem on annoyances.org
Found this gem years ago (in the days of windows 95):
Abort, Retry, Ignore?
Once upon a midnight dreary, fingers cramped and vision bleary, System manuals piled high and wasted paper on the floor, Longing for the warmth of bed sheets, still I sat there doing spreadsheets. Having reached the bottom line I took a floppy from the drawer, I then invoked the SAVE command and waited for the disk to store, Only this and nothing more. Deep into the monitor peering, long I sat there wond'ring, fearing, Doubting, while the disk kept churning, turning yet to churn some more. But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token. "Save!" I said, "You cursed mother! Save my data from before!" One thing did the phosphors answer, only this and nothing more, Just, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"
Was this some occult illusion, some maniacal intrusion? These were choices undesired, ones I'd never faced before. Carefully I weighed the choices as the disk made impish noises. The cursor flashed, insistent, waiting, baiting me to type some more. Clearly I must press a key, choosing one and nothing more, From "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"
With fingers pale and trembling, slowly toward the keyboard bending, Longing for a happy ending, hoping all would be restored, Praying for some guarantee, timidly, I pressed a key. But on the screen there still persisted words appearing as before. Ghastly grim they blinked and taunted, haunted, as my patience wore, Saying "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"
I tried to catch the chips off guard, and pressed again, but twice as hard. I pleaded with the cursed machine: I begged and cried and then I swore. Now in mighty desperation, trying random combinations, Still there came the incantation, just as senseless as before. Cursor blinking, angrily winking, blinking nonsense as before. Reading, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"
There I sat, distraught, exhausted, by my own machine accosted. Getting up I turned away and paced across the office floor. And then I saw a dreadful sight: a lightning bolt cut through the night. A gasp of horror overtook me, shook me to my very core. The lightning zapped my previous data, lost and gone forevermore. Not even, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"
To this day I do not know the place to which lost data go. What demonic nether world us wrought where lost data will be stored, Beyond the reach of mortal souls, beyond the ether, into black holes? But sure as there's C, Pascal, Lotus, Ashton-Tate and more, You will one day be left to wander, lost on some Plutonian shore, Pleading, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?"

Everyone here saying MS will totally mess up EvE if they bought up CCP.
Can I just say Freelancer ... arguable one of the top games of it's time (it's the game that got ME inot EvE, and I doubt I'm the only one) .... still is in fact ... and who was responsible for that one ?
Ohhh Ohhh it was Microsoft wasn't it
Not that it will ever happen CCP wouldn't do such a thing, if they did it would mean that all the so called passion they have for the game is just bull****, which I'm sure it isn't. -------------------------------------------

Edited by: Zeknichov on 12/10/2007 23:08:56 I really do not know enough about the subject but EVE is a well established MMOG and MS would not wan to tamper with EVE. If they were seriously interested in buying CCP it would be to produce their own MMOG using CCPs code or use the server technology that CCP employs with EVE for another MMOG. I don't see MS doing either of these things. MS usually buys companies that are in development of a game they think will do well. Which could mean they are interested in this white wolf MMOG. That would make sense and they would likely leave EVE alone.

/signed ms "destroys" every game they put their hands on :/
Like Halo, Privateer, BioShock (not theirs directly, but runs on their platforms only), Flight Simulator, etc?
MS has a half decent record of games, and has arguably the most successful video game in history on their hands with Halo 3. They're not exactly chumps in the gaming market.
yes because we all know how difficult shootem games are to make...
Lets Microsoft try to create another game with a little more thought involved then some twitch reactions. That said Flight Sim is awsome though a bit bloated and sadly I think I'll like BioShock better then Fallout 3 *tear*.

would have been more believable if they were interested because of the database infrastructure and expertise.
i doubt that a MMO with 200k subscribers would interest them. Surely in terms of gaming they are aiming higher. good for us :D

Edited by: Jian Gi on 13/10/2007 11:55:15 Guys I am not saying that Microsoft buying CCP is either bad/good, nor that it is impossible/possible. (I happen to think that it could be both possible and good) I can guarantee you though that there is ZERO chance that such a deal is happening now and it managed to leak ! The way the stock market works if that had happened they would all be exposed to lawsuits from their stockholders. And I happen to know what I am talking about since my company is in the process of getting acquired right now :)

biggest clue is the new CCP offices in Atlanta, so so close to MS HQ , only 2700 miles away
seriously, I loved "Freelancer" by MS , but there were so many things they could have done to make it much much better and the support was abysmal for it, also MS forgot about Freelancer very very quickly
so do I want them to buy CCP ? if they invest miullions in Hardware and Software, yes
