MS would not buy CCP just for Eve...there would have to be a real incentive for them, like the white wolf MMO?
The reason that CCP (with Eve as it's main product) is still independent is that the subscriber base has a 'hard ceiling' ...you can only fit so many players onto a single shard server. Hence no-one has felt the need to 'acquire' the company because subscription growth is limited by the hardware.

this just in, Microsoft has purchased the patent on pants, in order to make them appeal to more people they have simplified them and mass produced them using the cheapest possible materials, the resulting application means they have removed the legs for a simple single opening in the bottom to allow both legs to go through, so you no longer have to fight to get them on

Microsoft buying EVE would lead to the playerbase numbers increasing a lot since MS would probably shard the server, remove ship loss when getting podded (respawn in station) and make all space between 0.1-1.0 totally safe. 0.0 would become the battle arena.

Considering the path CCP is walking for the past 2 years, it won't make any difference if MS or EA or SOE bought them, they are in for the money and they want a lot. Voice, gtc's, the unique power of 2 repeatable ad infinitum and so on. However I doubt any of those forementioned want lazy coders

I would be extremely ****ed if Microsoft got their hands on CCP and EVE. Every game they touch gets utterly, royally screwed.
For instance, anyone seen a Mechwarrior game for the PC in recent years? Nope? That's because Microsoft currently holds the video game rights and aren't willing to make a PC game - they're more interested in putting out stuff for the xbox.
(I miss Mechwarrior.)

Nah, that isnt microshmucks style. They would start working on a massive game and promise CCP a titanic portion of sales to develop a section large enough for CCP to take out several loans. But the contract will have several stipulations like a completion date. However, Microsoft will waffle on the source code needed to complete the project and then they will sue for rights from CCP for delaying the deadline and not meeting up with their end of the contract. The result of the lawsuit will disolve CCP and the company will be swallowed by micro*******.

Seriously though if MS were to buy CCP, i can't see them changing much if anything for us, the software might get an update, but i think it would be business as usual. There are probable as many cases as a company being bought out and then left alone to keep doing what it does as there are cases where companies have been bought out and pulled to pieces.
What i think might be interesting is if WW/CCP/MS got together over the next MMO to come out of iceland. MS provides the up to date software, CCP bring in the expertise of running an maintaining a MMO and WW brings its World of Darkness as a basis for the game.
And this might be how MS want to break into the MMO world, not with an existing game, but something new and with expertise and an already cult followings. which it might plan on trying to get EVE and WoDs cults together. WoD is already a really harsh world where dead is everywhere, that might appeal to some Eve players, plus run it on a skills bases system like Eve maybe.
Don't know but am interested to find out if CCP/WW work together.

if it was true then it would probally mean the end of eve as we know it.
prices are gonna rise, you have to have vista to play it and the quality of the game is probally gonna drop big time.
But it could be even worse, EA could try to buy ccp, then they will manage to kill the game withing a year like they did with bullfrog and westwood.
