The way I look at it is like this. When I want to play EVE I have to tell my girlfriend in advance. Honey, I'm going to play eve, and when I sit down I can't get up for another 4 hours or so. Why is this? Well... That's how long it takes to find and engage (if they want to engage) targets in 0.0
So, 4 hrs of searching, 5 minutes of pew pew. Fun? Sometimes it's worth it yes, but usually... blobbing a solo blackbird is just pure boredom.
So what do we do in Eve that is purely mindless, purely fun. Well, sadly there's not much to do in Eve other than mine, rat, run missions, look for pvp targets (and hope they fight), or blob up and go siege a system with 200 people in it all waiting for the lag fest to begin.
What is your idea for... mindless fun in Eve? Is it gambling in stations with ambulation? Arena pvp for grudge matches?
I think we all like the suspense that Eve brings when you cross that high-sec/low-sec/zero-zero boundary. The heart thumping crazy feeling you don't get in other games. But! I'd like to be able to sit down and have fun if I only have 30 minutes or an hour to play.
I know you like *your* game just the way it is. I like it too, it's a great game. I just think it *could* be more fun.
Flame on.

as dumb as the idea sounds mindless fun is actually something desperately needed....
some days you don't want to mine or pvp or pve or mission or whatever
some days you just want to sit around and make fun of other eve players

You're right.. Just like in BF2, you don't always want to capture flags... sometimes you just want to camp some **** at his spawn point, snipe people out of choppers, 50 cal the carrier from downtown with 4 FAV's, take a flag and hold it for the entirety of the map.. carpet bomb your commander assets. Whatever..
...currently I think everyone comes to the forums for mindless fun while their characters sit in station. Let's move this ish to the game! ..somehow.

Oh god yes. Most of the time eve is $15 a months chat channel. The only difference is that there are quite a lot of like minded people to mix with. I've met some cool people in my time in eve and I guess doing something like pvp with them actually progresses one's internet relationship.

Quoted for unstoppable truth.
There's no such thing as EVE + quick, mindless fun. Curzon Dax's PvP arena idea would do the trick, but apparently everyone here's afraid of every descriptor that Blizzard has ever used.

I think ambulation has a lot of potential for fun. I hope we get to play Mindclash. Perhaps allow for spectator matches too. Something a bit different to add to the ambiance.
I can usually get a good stint on the weekend but most weeknights I am lucky to get an hour to play so something fun and 'on demand' would be great.

There needs to be more to do in systems. More life.
If i had some crappy stuff I owned to run with a fun graphic interface itd be great, managing slave quarters at a mining facility Ive built or something.
There are only a few things of consequence to do in Eve. Mine. Build a ship or module. Fight.
Of the three, two are mindless clicking and moving things around, the third takes hours to find someone to engage and God forbid you actually bring a fun ship, because everyone who bothers already has an obscenely expensive ship thats going to dominate anyone looking to actually have fun, or just jump in some cap ships hooray.
Something I dream about, because Im a strategy kinda guy, is a Simcity like planet society builder, or an RTS type planet battle system. Or station management where you can hire some npcs.(Im a billionaire God damnit, I want to have people under me do my bidding, I want to put my thousands of stockpiled useless slaves to work.) Itd be amazing to be able to set up mining platforms run by NPCs, under your command and not always smoothly of course, trying to buy some realestate somewhere in system to set up, etc. Make planets have some sort of impact on a system, all sorts of things.
Eve has always had big green shiny globs of potential lying all over the floor, but has been remarkably slow to work toward anything. The new changes coming are hooray, if anyone reads and thinks Im being mean.

ambulation + texas hold'em (i hope) gambling will be fun if the games are good. good break from the mission, rat, mining, pvp stuff and better than sitting in dock spinning your ships.

My friend and I have discussed this much. I think what eve needs is ownership. In a world so large... so daunting as EVE people need to feel individual, but at the same time feel like they are a part of the eve economy, world, and life. So why not let players lay stake to areas in systems, grow asteroid belts, feed them, rent them out. Have cool home-like structures, etc.
The systems... where can we go? Planet 1, 2, 3 or IV, it's moons, stations, the star... If we bookmark, we can go somewhere inbetween. These systems are HUGE. Lets do something with them!! Eve is huge people, it's time we utilize the space.

You have heard of 0.0 space, POSs, Sovreignty and the like? You can even set up a POS in Hi-Sec space these days. Even anchor secure cans around a prize mining site (may have to clear a few out first though).

All inherently grindy and demand large numbers of players / huge amounts of playtime. Not instant gratification events, which is sometimes all you have time for.

Grindy yes, you can run a POS solo though. I never said instant gratification, I was responding to the point I quoted, not the OP.

This is exactly why i run lvl4's, be it in group when there are people avaible or solo
It gives me the ability to chose for how long or when i get to blow things up, sure it's more fun to do in group, but it's not to bad do do solo nither
i do prefer PvP, i really do, but way to often you can't chose for how long you want to fight or when you want to fight
hence, i rather go and run one of those lvl4s iv'e done so manny times before |

Maybe for you.

I agree with you hear. Such activities are boring and corporations/players who limit themselves only to this kind of PvP are pathetic IMO.

Originally by: Thiago Aldanna What is your idea for... mindless fun in Eve? Is it gambling in stations with ambulation? Arena pvp for grudge matches?
My idea is something to convince players that EVE is only dull because of themselves. You sit in your crappy corp's gang and blob the heck out of solo blackbirds, and then complain that it's not exciting?
Who's fault is that? YOURS. Noone elses. Don't even try to blame Mr. Blackbird. Hey, I wonder what he was doing. Maybe exploring, looking for some kind of encounter? Yeah I wonder.
Hint: join/create a smaller corp, set your own goals.

If you want that kind of action, invest in cloaks. That's what they are for, obviously. In hostile space and you need to leave for RL? hit your cloak and come back later.
Originally by: Thiago Aldanna I know you like *your* game just the way it is. I like it too, it's a great game. I just think it *could* be more fun.
CCP cannot improve the game to help the problem you mentioned, the problem is people such as themselves who come to EVE and get conned into joining some megacorp/alliance and paying $14/month to be some 13 year old's puppet in very boring and often stupid wars.
The only thing CCP could do is limit the ammount of standings you could set to discourage the popular idea that everyone needs to be in a coalition and NAP'd to everyone within 30 jumps of their space to exist in EVE.
So yeah, I'm going to sum it up as just another puppet who joined a corp and is crying about not having as much fun as others.

I've flamed enough, if you ignored the above. Please do read this. SRSTIME. (Serious). Anyways, if you have fun in other games then the problem is not you. Be sensible and leave your corp/ally and join up with people who know how to have fun. Don't join a megacorp/coalitionpuppet and cry on the forums about EVE being dull. It's your fault.

I completely agree with this. A month ago i joined a corp, and at first it was all good and fun. We'd organise raids into 0.0 space, go on mining expeditions, it was all fun. Then the corp started getting bigger, and joined YouWhat alliance. Eventually we stopped doing things, and were just being used as a cash machine for YouWhat's pointless wars.
Me and a few other guys i had made friends with, we decided we'd had enough, and quit the corp and set up our own. The last few days have been immensely fun. Now we can be slackers, doing what we want and not paying tax. Not that we ever payed tax to our old corp anyway

I agree, and thats when alliance warfare, 0.0 ops, pos spamming, etc come into play. But on the weekdays when I don't have the time to invest in the game... I'd like something that was fun and it wouldn't matter how long it lasted.
