Ok ok .. so here I am, bored out of my mind.. Idea! Why not create a useless topic that everyone will reply to. =P
Ok so.. just as the question says:
What do you let your little characters frolick on?
Me personally? I'm running on a rusty beast!
Pentium III 447mhz Some god awful motherboard. 1x 128mb SDRAM,1x 64mb SDRAM - Total of 192mb SDRAM. Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600 - The highlight of my computer. Crap 17" EV700 CRT Display 12.4gb HDD Windows XP Pro. 220w Power Supply Boss Surround Sound System w/ 220w Subwoofer - Second Highlight. Broken CD-RW Drive
This baby was top of the line.... 7 years ago.
And I manage to play EVE windowed w/ IRC running constantly and sometimes manage to open other things in the process.
So lets see yours..
Yeah.. and on a side note.. if anyone *looks around* has some spare parts *checks around corner of hall* I'm gladly accepting donations.. *cough* *cough*

I think it's the RAM. My entire Eve directory is only 1.28GB, so it probably has all the ship models and textures in RAM all the time. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

lol my Linux-Router has better specs than that
Anyways... my "best" machine is reserved for work so I can¦t play eve on it. The rig I play on has these specs:
Athlon XP 1600+ (soon to be replaced by a 2600+) 768MB DDR RAM GF4 Ti 4200 64MB 80GB IBM HDD Elitegroup K7S5A Mobo Soundblaster Live! Value
I¦m running EvE windowed on a dual-monitor horizontal span setup. You know... for reading the forums while playing and so on.
Funny thing is, I have EvE running on this machine and my brother's PC. My bro has a pretty highend rig aswell which he uses for gaming only (3200+, Radeon 9600XT, 1GB RAM,...), but EvE runs with pretty much the same performance on both PCs

although that last upgrade is probably worth more than my whole computer it did not even change the fps since the cpu is such a bottleneck
running around 12 fps docked, 30 without UI out in space its about 9fps, 20 without UI
warp is choppy unless i turn UI off, mining is choppy, shooting is choppy, fleet battle is like praying to god the next "slide" in the slideshow doesnt show your pod

Edited by: Pudoris on 22/02/2004 22:53:54 Ganja that is a fine machine :) had the game running on a similar machine, only with better ram but 400mhz instead. Was going insane on that... so I got a new one:
2,6 ghz p4 800fsb 1024 mb ram 19" nice philips monitor... looking for a flat one though 240Gb HDD Harman Kardon stereos, 2X120RMS watts with JBL speakers.
am running from one to three applications... it has a whole lot different feel now the game :)
sometimes ponder if I could scoot in the fourth application just to see if it works smoothly enough :)

Ok so.. just as the question says:
How the hell do you get eve run on _THAT_ i hardly got it to work on a amd 1000mhz. __________________________

I also use it to play flashgames while doing npc spawns, traffeling etc. 1x 'the beast' 3.2ghz 1x 128mb video card 1x 256 ddr 1x 512 ddr 40 gig hd. and more goodies to watch p0rn on my screen in best format.. PC3 is my server so only gets used once in a blue moon but runs 2 clients really well. My main PC is PC1 and the laptop (PC2) allows me to play eve via GPRS / wireless network for my lunchtime / Uni fix.
PC's 1 & 2 are connected to a 512K ADSL line on PC3 by 100mb or 54g wireless network while at home, PC3 does all my internet wed, ftp and email hosting.
I have all the PC's setup so that I can run dual clients on them or 1 on PC1 and 1 on PC2.
BTW Eve is so much better played while sat in the garden, drinking.
Does this class me as an eve-a-holic?

Alienware PCs rock!!!!!!!!!!
Only got it a a few weeks ago... AMD FX-1 64bit at 2.2Ghz (but runs like it's at 4Ghz) 1Gb DDR Dual Channel Pc3200 Western Digital Caviar 120GB IDE 7200RPM Nvidia Geforce-Fx 5900 I forget which mobo Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Pro Creative inspire 6.1 surround sound system Multisync LCD 1760NX (17" NEC) Windows XP Professional
I forget what else... for anyone out there who has te cash, i recomend buying one.. it comes with 1-3 years tenical support so if anything goes wrong u can phone em up.. if neccesary they'll take it back and have it back within a few days depending on the problem... also if u can't start a game or it crashes a lot for no apparent reason then their specialised programms will take a note of the log files and send it to them (if u wish them to be sent) and they will usually be able to help u out with either a patch or some changes to ur pc ( minor as in drivers etc) ok it is a bit expensive but WWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its an experience

Eve is a bit laggy on my machine, particularly when other players are in my vicinity.. I do OK in computer-only environments, which is probably why I spend most the time fighting NPC rats.. I imagine it's the CPU that's the real bottleneck. Hoping that my 1 Ghz P3 will make a difference.. if not, will have to wait till I can afford a whole new comp.
Brand new back when I put it together, cost me about $1500.. today.. paperweight.. haha.. time to spend another chunk I guess.

Me personally? I'm running on a rusty beast!

I ran EVE on ZX80 from Sinclair with just 2Kb of RAM ... without the need of expansion pack of 8Kb

p4 3.2ghz, only 512 system ram, radeon 256m 9800xt, crappy soundblaster live card which i have many problems with on other games but thankfully not EVE.
I usually have 2 EVE clients running at the same time and i get a little slowdown in roid fields after i have been there a while, think its due to a mining drone bug (i can see about 40 mining drones around my ship but i only have 4 under my control), but if I only need 1 client on i can play with anti-aliasing on 6x and EVE really looks sweet with this and still runs silky smooth :)

I use a 1.2GHz Athlon, Radeon 8500LE graphics card, 512MB PC2100 RAM, standard generic 40 gig HD, 17" monitor, and Windoze 98SE. EVE actually runs fine for me (though I've never been in a fleet battle). And the really amusing thing is my OS is so old half the new viruses won't even run on my machine if they DID get by my scanner...

also, use wireless keyboard and mouse, very very handy.
i run 2 accounts plus a few instances of IE, plus TS and Ventrilo (sometimes icq or msn as well) without any trouble

Pentium 4 2.4Ghz (P4C) 512MB PC3700 DDR Radeon 9700 NP overclocked to 9800 Pro speeds
It runs damn slow with all the settings maxed... 30-40 FPS normal gameplay, 5 FPS or lower with 5 people on the screen. Its because of the GUI... if I turn it off I get over 50 FPS during a major battle, lol.
