Hello, I have a question for all you techies out there (that also know and play Eve).
U3 software (http://www.u3.com/smart/default.aspx) makes the claim "You can plug it into any PC and work, play a game...(snip)...A U3 smart drive makes any PC your own PC. And when you unplug it, it leaves no personal data behind."
So my scheming mind starts thinking about using this at work to change skills. We are allowed "limited personal use of internet", but are not allowed to install software on the machines not approved by the company, and obviously Eve would not be.
So my question is, assuming Eve gets past the firewall, what would running Eve off a jump drive using U3 software do exactly? Would this show up that the program was accessing the net using the company network? Would there be security risks that could be exploited by nefarious hackers? I guess I am asking exactly how this works.

You don't need any special software to run EVE from a jump drive. From my understanding you just need to copy the EVE folder to a USB drive and launch it with the /end /LUA:OFF switches on the shortcut to the EVE executable.

From a Jump Drive ?? You mean Flash drive.
OP: The u3 Software last time was a load of trash, just buy one of teh 4gb sticks and run it off that, you don't need any kind of software on the USB stick to run eve off it. ---- \0/ CCP SlideShow Games \0/ There is no sence crying over every mistake, You just keep on trying until you run out of Cake!

I believe that "jump drive" and "flash drive" refer to the same thing- a USB keychain or "thumb drive".
At least, that's how I've always heard the terms used.

Jump drive and flash are pretty much the same I thought...
I was sorta following this on the other thread with the kid who was trying to play Eve on one computer without his parents knowing.
But I assumed that most of Eve in his scenario runs on the jump drive with some residual files needed on one specific host computer so I created a separate thread about U3 specifically. U3 made it sound like it emulates windows and runs 100 percent off the drive and you can run from computer to computer.
So with Eve it runs completley off the card anyway?null

One thing I do know about the U3 software is that it will install itself every time you plug in your drive. Also, the U3 installation ,without witch the drive will not work, requires Admin level privileges to install so unless you have admin rights the drive may not install.

The U3 software only "does its magic" with software designed for U3, not just any random program.
