How are the new banks automating deposits, withdrawls and transfers?
Are they using the API? I didn't realise it could do that sort of thing. If they're not using the API, how are they doing it without breaking the EULA, or is some poor sod sat at a PC all day manually acting as a clerk?!

No automation, I believe they have limits on withdrawal frequency, and they are delayed. Its more of a longterm saving idea than a small frequent use account.

Fury bank is certainly not automated, hence the 100mil (or 250mil? for higher rate account) minimum limits on deposits.
Ebank on the other hand, is at least partially automated. I'm not entirely sure how this works but by combining the API and the IGB scripting functions I believe it could be done. Pretty damn clever though.

EBank has automated deposits, and this interpretation is just how I understand it works:
* People send money to "EBANK Ricdic" character * Cron job is run every hour and reads the "EBANK Ricdic"'s wallet using full API key (1 hours because thats how API works) * Above data is stored in the database * Customer accounts are credited according to the amount deposited, and accounts are created if they dont exist yet.
Withdrawals are not automated.
* Customer clicks on the "Withdraw request", fills how much money he wants to withdraw and waits * bank teller (checks pending requests? gets notification? his phone rings?) and acts upon the withdraw requests by logging in to game and doing "Give money" to the customer * AFAIK, Ricdic is the only teller at the moment.

Edited by: Dr Slaughter on 16/10/2007 11:35:46 Gotcha. So my 'poor sod sat at a PC' comment was pretty much right.
I wonder if CCP will, or have thought about, putting the logic in-game to manage player run banks/shops. Don't suppose anyone can remember if they've ever commented on that?

In the slashdot interview with Eve's ecocnomist he talks about some of the problems with player run banks from memory he only gets into mentioning 'trust' issues between players. Closest CCP have come to talking about player run banks I think.

General comments here:
1) Deposits are automated 2) Daily interest credits are automated 3) Account transfers are automated 4) Withdraws are manual, but there is a withdraw request page, your withdraws have a default status of "pending" untill a teller handles the request and sets it to "complete"
The trust issue is addressed by forming a Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of some extremely trustworthy market players (Torn Soul and Ricdic to name two of the nine)
The database is normalized for functionality, but there is redundancy built in to many tables to ensure data integrity and auditing.
Oh, I'm Hexxx by the way. I've written about 90% of EBANK.

:) I hope you're sucessful in your venture and CCP eventually give you some automation.
The trust issue is an interesting one. I was always suprised why no one has set-up a proper body corporate (LLP/LLC or similar) out of the game and then contracted (proper commercial contract) board members to operate their characters on board for in-game corps.
If someone turns out to be a scammer the LLP/LLCs commercial insurance could cover losses by buying GTC and selling them.... if the LLP/LLC was a GTC reseller and offered other services (kill board, forums, etc.) it might even be able to break-even.
Although... I should probably try to remember this IS a game of internet spaceships... dam.

Court decisions usually build off a case precedent set previously. Newly written laws (no matter how clear) are not considered strong untill tested in court. LLC laws have been around for quite a while now and have been robustly tested...but not against "virtual worlds" or "virtual" infractions. Also, filing articles of incorporation can cost upwards of $800 bucks plus you want a lawyer to verify that you haven't left any gaping liability holes in your documents.
All that provided, it's an incredible amount of overhead to shoehorn existing real world laws into virtual circumstances which have never been proven in court and have no precident.
Further consider the difficulty in applying the law to citizens of foreigh countries (EBANK's Directors are spread across 5 different countries and 3 continents) and you can quickly see that such a measure is impractical.
10 points for creativity though.

Actually I was thinking it would just be done by simple use of commercial contract/employment law as far as individuals working for the LLC are considered. They broke their contract (which said they wouldn't steal the LLCs virtual assets, or whatever), breach of contract.... LLC could, if it wanted take a case against the individual and in the mean time it could use it's insurance to cover the loss....

Fek. Good point :(
