Wtf is this? Does that really say 23 days? Are you kidding me? I just got used to dealing with 3 or 4 days for level 5 skills and I can deal with that. But 23 days? Is this how new players are treated in EVE? WTF. I'm thinking twice about this game now. The game is fun but now with this it seems it will take too long before I can really enjoy EVE. Thanks a lot CCP, I'm consider playing another mmorpg now.
I trained my learning skills to 5/4 and I have +3 implants. This is stupid I have to wait so long.

Having a skill at level five as opposed to level four does not mean you're suddenly going to have fun. The difference is rarely that noticeable. Granted, sometimes it can spell the difference between life and death in PVP, but as a "new player" you won't have to worry about that yet. Trust me, once you're addicted, 23 days will be a walk in the park.

Nobody said this was an easy, quick or instantly rewarding game. It is a long term experience made for people who donŠt like being taken by the hand and rather think by themselves. It took me 33 days to do Heavy drones V when I decided to start and I didnt go back to WoW with tears in my eyes...

Edited by: Sebesto on 15/10/2007 23:17:12 The level of the skill doesn't matter. The rank does. Heavy Drone Op is a rank 5 skill, so it takes 5 times as long as a rank 1 skill. No point in having all skills be 5 days to level 5 for every skill because then everyone would be flying titans.

To be honest, this game isn't meant for those who want the game to be fast and easy. I'd rather have a devoted fanbase of 30,000 than 1,000,000 players who aren't as loyal. It's like a tobacco company. You'd rather have the one addict than the ten casual smokers. ---

Its called 'specialisation'. Within a moderate rate of time you could probably train a vast number of skills to level IV, and you'd be moderately good at all of them.
But, there should be a 'wall to climb' if you want to specialise in a specific area (e.g drones) otherwise everyone would have ogre IIs or the equivalent.
So this is where you have to start making the tough choices. Do you spend a month trg to use T2 Heavy drones, or a month to fly that interceptor you've had your eye on...?
It's not easy making those choices but ultimately thats the way it goes.

So 23 days to compete with veteran players, eh? Doesn't sound that bad.
You are looking at this the entirely wrong way. Ofcourse if you come from games such as WoW, where you want instant upgrade or whatever, then it sounds bad.
However, if you think about it, your character actually becomes better, even while you are offline. Hell, you can sleep for 23 days, and when you come back, he is better. I haven't seen that happen in WoW, UO, or EQ. This means that people with less playtime actually gains skills at the same time as hardcore players. This is a great and unique feature in EVE.
Also, cut the whining crap about "this how you are treating new players". No one is forcing you to train it to rank 5. There are veteran players out there who haven't trained that skill to rank 5 either, so no it's not a mandatory skill. It's good, but it's up to you whether it's worth the wait or not.
And good luck finding another game.

I have three characters, and I've played over a year. None of my characters have that skill.
It may be useful, especially if you're Gallente, but you don't need any one skill to succeed or to "compete with older players".
You might be better looking at your tactics, if you're talking about PVP, or if we're talking missions you might want to look at more innovative ways of making ISK. You seem frustrated with waiting.

Know why I like long skills? So I can train them when im on vacation, working away from a PC for a long time, or just not playing EVE atm. Also kinda nice to set a long skill to train, so I don't have to come back every few hours (for lower lvl skills anyways) to set a new skill. -----------------

Cry some more. I trained it and memory is my lowest attribute.
You don't need Ogre IIs to contend with anybody. Train some USEFUL, UNIVERSALLY HELPFUL level 5 skills first (Energy Management, Energy Systems Operation) first and then train EXTREMELY SPECIFIC level 5 skills (Heavy drones 5) when you actually feel the need to dedicate to that kind of junk.

LOL whiner try having to have it done back in the day before implants even existed and before advanced learning skills
you think it gets easier on older players but capital ships 5 for a good skill planted and atrrib char still takes over two months eve helps new players in that with the skill system it only takes so long to say master tech 2 ogres once its done its done there is no more. ie when a vet is on a LONG train ur newb ass can catch up on smaller stuff. also dont expect to catch up to the versatility of older characters these days if you want to be competetive you have to specialize and spend a few months doing it in that few months youll gain the same skill as a vet in that area

We all had to train from virtually nothing. Most of us started with a lot less skillpoints than you get now, and had to train the rank 1 learning skills to 5 to train the Advanced learnings to boot.
Basically, you're moaning about an intrinsic part of the game. If you really don't want to wait then you can buy a character. Either way you've subjected me to Verone ranting on vent, so thanks. _____________________________________________

Man, are you ever going to be disappointed when you get them.
Try this on for size : Open up Evemon and plan for an Archon, Fighters 4 and Jump drive calibration 3. Weep.
You're kind of missing the point of EvE (although at this point, I'm about 80% sure you're a troll). The point of EvE is to play EvE. NOT to grind the treadmill. There is no power levelling (though some might argue the quest for isk is the equivalent).
You should use your skill plan as a journey as much as a goal. Hell, I love fiddling with Evemon endlessly and tweaking my plan.
