Wtf is this? Does that really say 23 days? Are you kidding me? I just got used to dealing with 3 or 4 days for level 5 skills and I can deal with that. But 23 days? Is this how new players are treated in EVE? WTF. I'm thinking twice about this game now. The game is fun but now with this it seems it will take too long before I can really enjoy EVE. Thanks a lot CCP, I'm consider playing another mmorpg now.
I trained my learning skills to 5/4 and I have +3 implants. This is stupid I have to wait so long.

I guess it is a part of the game. You could suggest CCP to give us ISKs for SP feature. It would be handy. :) --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

Having a skill at level five as opposed to level four does not mean you're suddenly going to have fun. The difference is rarely that noticeable. Granted, sometimes it can spell the difference between life and death in PVP, but as a "new player" you won't have to worry about that yet. Trust me, once you're addicted, 23 days will be a walk in the park.

Edited by: LuzArius on 15/10/2007 23:12:06 Heavy Drones 5 unlocks tech 2 ogre's, I need those drones in order to compete with veteran players in EVE. But I didn't know it was going to take 23 f'ing days.
As far as i'm concerned my loyalty to EVE is bare minimum. As soon as another decent mmorpg comes out with FFA PVP + PVP looting i'm ditching this game in a heartbeat.

Nobody said this was an easy, quick or instantly rewarding game. It is a long term experience made for people who donŠt like being taken by the hand and rather think by themselves. It took me 33 days to do Heavy drones V when I decided to start and I didnt go back to WoW with tears in my eyes...

I'd just like to say that their "stupid" system is what draws me, and probably a lot of other people who don't have time to sit in front of a PC for hours upon hours a day leveling skills to EVE in the first place.
Good Riddance.

Edited by: Sebesto on 15/10/2007 23:17:12 The level of the skill doesn't matter. The rank does. Heavy Drone Op is a rank 5 skill, so it takes 5 times as long as a rank 1 skill. No point in having all skills be 5 days to level 5 for every skill because then everyone would be flying titans.
Can I have your stuff? Dr Paithos can have the character.

To be honest, this game isn't meant for those who want the game to be fast and easy. I'd rather have a devoted fanbase of 30,000 than 1,000,000 players who aren't as loyal. It's like a tobacco company. You'd rather have the one addict than the ten casual smokers. ---

Its called 'specialisation'. Within a moderate rate of time you could probably train a vast number of skills to level IV, and you'd be moderately good at all of them.
But, there should be a 'wall to climb' if you want to specialise in a specific area (e.g drones) otherwise everyone would have ogre IIs or the equivalent.
So this is where you have to start making the tough choices. Do you spend a month trg to use T2 Heavy drones, or a month to fly that interceptor you've had your eye on...?
It's not easy making those choices but ultimately thats the way it goes.

So 23 days to compete with veteran players, eh? Doesn't sound that bad.
You are looking at this the entirely wrong way. Ofcourse if you come from games such as WoW, where you want instant upgrade or whatever, then it sounds bad.
However, if you think about it, your character actually becomes better, even while you are offline. Hell, you can sleep for 23 days, and when you come back, he is better. I haven't seen that happen in WoW, UO, or EQ. This means that people with less playtime actually gains skills at the same time as hardcore players. This is a great and unique feature in EVE.
Also, cut the whining crap about "this how you are treating new players". No one is forcing you to train it to rank 5. There are veteran players out there who haven't trained that skill to rank 5 either, so no it's not a mandatory skill. It's good, but it's up to you whether it's worth the wait or not.
And good luck finding another game.

lol you make it sound like only noobs have to train the long skills, coupon we all have to train that to 5 to use t2 heavys.
Oh and like any MMORPG you cant become as strong as a Vet over night, but unlike any other MMORPG you can kill a Vet no matter your character age.

I have three characters, and I've played over a year. None of my characters have that skill.
It may be useful, especially if you're Gallente, but you don't need any one skill to succeed or to "compete with older players".
You might be better looking at your tactics, if you're talking about PVP, or if we're talking missions you might want to look at more innovative ways of making ISK. You seem frustrated with waiting.

Know why I like long skills? So I can train them when im on vacation, working away from a PC for a long time, or just not playing EVE atm. Also kinda nice to set a long skill to train, so I don't have to come back every few hours (for lower lvl skills anyways) to set a new skill. -----------------

waaaaaaaaaaaa? T2 items SHOULD take a long time to train for, otherwise every noob would have them, and well, the vets would have nothing to make them better than the newbies like yourself.
BTW i think someone already said it but..... Stuff, can i have it?
