I'm a noob and on Friday I decided to buy the Amarr Industrial skill. Unfortunately the only one listed in my domain was at a 0.4 system (found that out later).
Question one:How dangerous is it for me to trot over to the 0.4 system and pick the skill up? My fellow corp members reckong it should be quite safe but from another thread here it appears that 0.4 could still see me getting splatted even if I don't dally. Being a noob means of course that I might not be able to warp to station in one go - presumably that increases the risk if I have to stop.
Question two:I was suprised to find only that one place selling the skill given that I'm only 7 or so jumps from my start sector. Could it be that I have crossed into a different domain and that the skill will be readily available in my start sector (Hedion University)?

Welcome to Eve!
All of the common skills are generally available in the system that you started from, so I'd suggest heading back there to pick up any new skills you might need.

Hi Andrue,
Certain skills are harder to found. If you aren't ready to go to 0.4 system, maybe ask a m8 you trust in and ask him to bring it back. 7 jumps isn't that high when you aren't noob.
Otherwise, you can get a shuttle. Skills can easily be transported in shuttles, and if you eventually die, the shuttle isn't a big loss (make an update to your clone before, and save some money to buy it back...).
But 0.4 isn't that dangerous...It's mainly a matter of location.
Good luck! (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Aye. You may be only 6 jumps away from your start sector but you're probably in a different region. You can only see items for sale in your current region. -------------------------- PIE Inc Captain and Internal Communications Officer |

Edited by: HarryManback on 23/02/2004 15:23:37 If you dont warp to a station in one go you will end up in the middle of nowhere so its no big deal as they wont be sitting there waiting to kill you.
Id suggest you actually try go get the skill. If you start demonising .4 and below this early on your gonna end up staying in empire your whole game. Use the map to check systems on route to the place you need to get to for: -ships destroyed in the last hour -also pod kills in the last hour
If you see a massive blob of say 10-20 podkills you may not wanna bother getting it. If you see nothing just get a shuttle and an upto date clone and you dont have anything to lose(im guessing you dont have implants).
Once docked just start learning the skill so its is uploaded and then carry on training whatever you want and head home.
Seriously you can fly around .4 space and below pretty freely as long as you exercise some foresight.
PS the Map is your friend
edit: made it a bit more readable cos even though i beat the guy below me his read better

Edited by: Severus Trajan on 23/02/2004 15:15:24 First of all open the map and check the number of destroyed ships and pod kills on the route to the system...under options "color stars by..." That should give you something of a hint about how dangerous the particular systems are.
That being said...those kind of systems are USUALLY not that dangerous in my experience. There are a lot of them, so you have to be a bit unlucky to run into the wrong kind of people. If you're pretty new a shuttle is the perfect way to go as mentioned above. Start training the skill immediately on the off chance you get blown up on the way home.
Basic skills (such as Industrials) are always available at the various training facilities. In your case, being Amarr and all, Emruyer is a good place to pick up these basic skills, centrally located in Tash-Murkon.
And do make sure your clone is updated for your amount of skillpoints (this last statement is always, always true, of course)!
edit: lol, gotten beaten on most points by a few minutes...

I do mission right in the heart of pirate blockades. I travel through these gates often. The trick is to use a small frigate and rig a 10mn ab on it. You'll have decent shields for a hit or two and still be able to rip through the blockade in a matter of seconds. Usually this is fast enough that the PC rats can't touch you let alone track you.
Of course if you're in a small ship only griefers will want to PK you. PC rats need to earn ISK too and they'll wait for big ships to open fire on. It's a waste of ammo to hit a small frig with datasheets in it.

Edited by: George Carter on 23/02/2004 15:23:11 As a point of interest there is a University station in Sarum Prime which is in Amarr space where u can pick up most skills. Its 1.0 security so u will be safe picking stuff up there. ---------------------------------------------

Just go for it mate. If anything bad does happen to you (which I'm 99% sure it won't since you're just going straight in and out again) then send me an eve-mail and I'll sort you out. That's a straight up offer.
