It lets me read and post on the forums while only looking at EVE once every few minutes to cycle the ore to the can, unlike my Brutix where I was strapped to my chair. It also pops individual rocks much faster, leading to an inflated sense of how much I'm mining. Note: Fairly pointless thread I made because I'm bored. Oh wait, TWO simultaneous "Asteroid Depleted"s sounded while I was typing this! Sweet! ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars.

Posted - 2007.10.17 00:09:00 - [5] you do realize that it takes the full 3 minute cycle to pop the ore, even if there is only 1 unit of ore left in the rock? popping rocks means alot of wasted time, alot more so then regular mining lasers. The above Brutix setup mines (with maxed out skills and without mining drones) 719 cubic meters of ore per minute. The Retriever setup you gave above with mining barge skill at 3 mines (with otherwise maxed out skills and without mining drones) 697 per minute. With Mining barge skill at 4 it mines 717 per minute. Only at 5 does it go to 736. Only with tech 2 crystals does it get 792. So, ok I'm wrong and a Retriever mines slightly faster, but only when you get the mining bareg skill to 5. However, at the point where you would have the skills for a Retriever but still not have the skills for a Covetor, a Brutix mines faster than a Retriever.

I wonder why some are so surprised... I've mined myself to a boring death in a Prophecy ffs... Hell, I did it even in an indy while waiting for the Retrievers to fill me up
