Yahtzee's review was a triumph. He's making a note of portal's huge success. It's hard to overstate his satisfaction. Zero Punctuation...
anyone wanna continue it? ---

And how does Portal make you understand Episode 2 better ?
Have you not played the end, with all the 'LOOK AT THAT! ITS APERTURE SCIENCE!!11!1 ITS A BIG SHIP AND KLEINER TALKING ABOUT HAX TECHNOLOGIES WHICH COULD BE USED TO WTFRAEP THE COMBINEZ!' hypeage for episode 3?
Oh, and spoilers above! ---

Originally by: Sqalevon Lofty, I just found the mentioning of Aperature Science and don't think it's too important to the plot of Episode 2.
It explains pretty much exactly what will happen in the next game. I never said it was important for Episode 2, more Half-Life as a whole and that you'd understand that part if you played through Portal first. ---

Originally by: Death Kill Episode two was a major failure imo.
You're still sour that noone agrees with you. The half life episodes, episode 2 especially, are truely magnificent in their ability to make the player feel like they ARE Gordon Freeman. In thief you feel like you're controlling a guy stealing things and infiltrating spooky mental asylum orphanages. In halo, you feel like a guy in a suit, but have no real connection the the character or characters around you other than 'oh that's so cool'.
In HL2, episode 1 and 2, you have a true connection with characters such as Eli, Alyx, Barney, and you can see the way in which they have connections with one-another as well. Sure, the steam engine isn't groundbreaking anymore, but the stuff valve is producing within it is the pinnacle of gaming to this day, IMO.
And wtf, STALKER? That game was good, but comparing it with Half Life 2? It looked pretty, and the gun-play was decent and very fun, but it was hardly groundbreaking, if that's what you were trying to get at? If you feel it was groundbreaking, can you tell me which aspect? Graphics, AI, gameplay? What. It all felt very good, very smooth, and very well-made, but it wasn't anything spectacularly new... ---

Edited by: lofty29 on 17/10/2007 22:27:59 Yahtzee's review was a triumph. He's making a note of portal's huge success. It's hard to overstate his satisfaction. Zero Punctuation... He does what he must, because he's paid. For the good of all of us. Except the Halo fanboys.
But there's no sense crying over every bad game You just keep on reviewing and continue to flame and the gaming gets done, and you stroke your gravity gun With the gamers who are still alive!
He's partially angry He's using much sarcasm now. Even though he played the game and liked it.
..and really did like it. ..and sung out his praise onto the web. As he sung it hurt because He was so happy for once.
And while episode two was a bit of a tease, Still we're all astonished that he's actually pleased. So he's glad he got the box, Think of all the time he's lost, To the game that he actually likes.
And believe me there's not many he likes.
He's reviewing games that he does not like.
And there's so many that he does not like.
Does not like.
Does not like...

The AI naturally and gameplay.
How in the hell was the AI groundbreaking? All they did was go and hide behind trees, making gunfights last way, way too long I had one fight with 6 soldiers. It took a half hour because they kept hiding, and if I came out they'd just gun me down. It's not revolutionary, it's a bit annoying. The gameplay, like I said, was very good, but again; it's been done before, just not quite as smoothly. It was not revolutionary.
As an exploring FPS, sure STALKER is better...but Half Life is a linear shooter, and that's what it's supposed to be. It doesn't give you space to explore, as that would not work. People would stray miles from the main story and not be able to pick it up again. Stalker is not the same type of game as half life, except the fact that they're both FPSes. That's their only similarity. ---

Valve created the game of the year and they thought their engine and storyline alone could give them unlimited credits. They thought wrong. Their storyline turns weaker and weaker for each episode, and the graphics alone isnt enough to save them.
Valve devs even said 'we wont focus on new stuff, instead we create new stuff for the grav gun....the magnusson device'. Yeah, that gets a -10 in inventiveness. Episode 2 was just HL2 with different locations and thats that.
Because you feel it wasn't a good, doesn't make it not as good. Almost everyone who has played it agrees that it was the best installment of Half-Life (not just hl2) yet, and the story was absolutely awesome. How it was the same story as half life 2, I don't know. Maybe you're just ******** and doubleclicked on HL2 instead of Ep2
Valves intention was to further the story, and that's exactly what they did. They introduced alot of new engine tricks and enhancements, including more accurate physics and an advanced physics renderer for massive object breaking / bending effects (A-La the bridges).
Half life 2 doesn't need new guns. The guns it has are all you need, and introducing more would just be filling it out, which is something you think is bad too
It's still set in the same location as City 17, which is why it feels so 'samey'. It's the same place, just the story is continued. It keeps playing through, past the first story and episode 1. If they suddenly made it a totally new game with new characters etc, it wouldn't make sense.
How do you intend that they make it 100% different from half life 2 without removing the basis of what made hl2 hl2? Hell of a task, don't you think? Some may even say it's impossible ---

What! where?? im not going insane am i?
There's 2 when you have to seal the Silo doors. They fly in just as you're trying to throw some grenades at that stupid turret that makes you die just by looking at you
but then maybe it depends on the difficulty mode. They're def. there on Hard.
There was about 10 on easy mode (I like playing easy first to get the story, sue me ) ---

... Lofty MK II ?
I've played it on hard as well, foo'. I just like to play them through on easy so I don't die and can really be immersed in the story. Besides, hard on HL is just more HP / less ammo / less damage, unfortunately. ---

No, no it's not
It's clear from the way you rant and rave all over this forum that you're some sort of fan boy but now you're just being ridiculous. HL1 is a game without peers in it's genre and hl2 was only popular because it was reminiscent of it.
Are you DK's alt or something? ---
