okay.
When you jump in, you are cloaked. You have ~60 seconds to either try running, self destruct, or *gasps* convo the people at the gate.
This is literally the BEST opportunity you will get to leave with your ship intact. Before the cloaking, you were being fired on before you could even see the system, much less count the number of hostiles, pick a name, and start a convo.
Nobody takes this chance though...
As for people being abusive; I find it funny. Some people are so cool about it, I almost feel sorry for shooting them. Some, are clearly not.
I was camping in [drunk's system] (0.0) earlier this week, and I was just flat-out ganking everything I could target and warp scramble. A lot of shuttles came through, most of which escaped, a handful of frigates, most of which escaped, a couple of cruisers that died, and a load of indies with instajumps, and one indy without insta jumps. There were also a few BS's, but I couldn't stop them.
The most offensive of these people were a couple of shuttle pilots. they jumped in, didn't warp straight away, and I *****ed them open. they had no cargo (but you gotta try ), and I left their pods floating in space. I got called a plethora of different names, and recieved insinuations about my family. Naturally, I *****ed his pod open and sent him back to whatever fleapit he originated from.
On the flip side, the one indy I hit was crammed to the gills with NPC loot, mostly good stuff, too. The guy convoed me, congratulated me on the speed of the kill (it *was* impressive), and told me to spend my loot wisely. He understood that that day was not his lucky day.
shortly after that, I got 6,000 nocx out of a thorax (I think), and again, the guy was like 'heh, you got some good stuff there, congrats'. While I went to grab said loot, I got jumped by one of the local antipirates, and nearly lost my uninsured scorp (down to 200 hull o.0), at which point I had to retire to safe space to count my treasure (yarr!) and spend 20 minutes (no joke) repairing a scorpion with cruiser repair modules. My attacker came in, and we had a short chat about how close he got to wrecking the scorp.
This all brings me round (in a long-winded way) to the point that children should *not* be allowed into unregulated space. especially when losing a 10k shuttle with no cargo brings them out in a rash of abuse and crap. .
