So there I was in my Indy mining cans when suddenly I noticed a Drake uncloaking next to me, this was new. So I align, target, and scan, only to findone of the most frightening t2 setups I have ever seen... except the person had fitted a web instead of a warp disruptor. One full cargohold of ore later, I return in my domi.
He doesn't attack at first but he's very aggressively guarding his can, so being diplomatic, I go straight for it. Yeah that did the trick, I could barely get him past 95% shields, as he was plumetting me from 5k. Apparently my 3 medium rail guns weren't exactly communicating the damage i was trying to convey. His mistake was of course, moving out to get range (which doesn't make sense to me since... he's in a missle boat, perhaps he thought I was packing blasters). At 15-20k my sensor dampeners cut off his targeting and he's a sitting duck, except I can't do any damage to him! People complain all the time about the myrm but wtf tank on a drake, even if I was properly setup, I get the feeling I wasn't going to dent the thing.
We called a truce and I later found out he was active tanking, I assumed he was passive tanked so swapped out my neuts for vamps thinking might as well use his cap to my advantage if it isn't going to hurt him. But in hindsight, since he was active tanked, I feel like the neuts would have turned the tide since he can't really keep his invulnerability II active with two t2 neutralizers on him. He says he can, the only way I can see that is if the drake can recharge enough cap between the 12 seconds (I stagger my modules) of the neut drains. Any insight oh experienced eve forum warriors? I mean he even had a cloak so it's not like he had a utility slot, grrrr, I feel like I should have totally wiped the floor with this guy.
Oh yeah, he's what... 2-3 years older than me.
Anyways, input?

with staggered neuts you might have got him, but depending on his rigs, he may have been fine anyway

you should probably skillup some fighting skills instead of flying a domi that does dps of an average cruiser.

im confused... the drake was guarding a cam? was he mining?
also, wouldn't you know what type of tank he had if you ship scanned him?

first guy: yeah couldn't scan his rigs, he said he had 20k shields so there's that,
second guy: it was my support cruiser, basically cap heavy, repair and energy management, but i still prefer the domi to the other galentee ships, i'm drone heavy, plus I like the versatility and the cheapness
third guy: he had alts, one mines, one transports, the other he called in when i started harassing him.
my domi is pretty much setup for support, egress setup for energy transfer, drain, and neut with remote repair i swap out for mediums; ew for mids, not the best but good for small gang support, i have like enough minerals for 5 more domis
whats a better domi setup? thinking just going for a blaster tackle tank, with the EW replaced with cap management, seems like most 1v1 guys either go complete EW or complete tank meaning my jack of all trades setup will get screwed regardless.

well drakes do have a tank that is quite formitable, but they are breakable, you just need the right equipment. A geddon/abaddon can break the average drake with little effort, a domi can do this too if you get your drone damage up, try useing something with a little more go than med rails, try useing large blasters and light up his life with some antimater Ls.

Don't use medium weapons on a domi... Ogre II's + full rack of BS blasters will kill any active drake before it says "eh?".

i hate to post this but
i took on a drake the other day in my myrm. the guy was 9 months younger than me. and i coulnt break his tank.
i had to flee before i ran out of cap injectors
those drakes have one serious tank. my dps sucks but still, DAMN. i guess im gonna have to train caldari now

This is true but who in their right mind does not kill the drones from drone boats?
Eleminate the drones and the Domi has horrible DPS.

Hmm, this thread makes me want to dust off the ol' Drake and run it through low sec to see what happens. I've got Shield Man IV and Shield Op V along with 3 purger rigs and some implants.
I think just seeing people bash away fruitlessly would be enough to amuse me, forget about kills. (With a Drake's dps, yeah, forget about kills!)
(And God, I hate Racketeers. I've never seen anything good come form them)

I do 2% off max damage with my t2 drones. I couldnt break a passive drakes tank with them alone.
T2 sentrys did a little better with sentry damage mod on.
You gotta have the extra blaster damage on them to do it. Or neuting him untill his invun fields turn off.

a good drake setup (3 LSE II, invulII, 4 SPR II, 3 purgers) should get you around 230/s regen tank plus resists. theyre by far the best gatecamping ship IMO, all you need is a bit of microing on the invul to keep your cap full up but otherwise you can forget about your tank and just chill until you hear gatefire
