Does anyone know anything about the new T2 Freighter as far as skills, component parts, etc?
I have heard that they are jump capable and can use jump gates? If so, this brings up some more questions: 1). can they use jump gates in empire? 2). can they jump out of 0.5 and above space? 3). can they jump into 0.5 and above empire space? (doubtful) 4). will their jump range be the same as a carrier?

Edited by: Acinonyx Jubatus on 21/10/2007 20:57:28 Bout as clueless as you... but... 1). can they use jump gates in empire? Most likely, unles there's a reason, they shouldn't be much larger than their T1 counterparts.
2). can they jump out of 0.5 and above space? Probably, don't see why not.
3). can they jump into 0.5 and above empire space? Doubt it, I assume they need a cynosural field, and you cannot create a cyno in high sec last I heard.
4). will their jump range be the same as a carrier? Who knows.
It's bad when you can't even make real sense of your own post.

Um thanks, I guess. I was hoping for a game developer to respond, not someone who is guessing like I am.
One additional question, if a game dev or someone who has used one on the test server, regarding this post:
5. Will there be any slots? something like 1 high, 1 or 2 mids and maybe 1 low. This would allow the fitting of a cloak, which if you have ever flown a freighter in 0.0 is a big sitting duck. (This may be more of a wish list more that an actual question.)

Edited by: Valator Uel on 22/10/2007 14:34:20 Devs won't answer posts with this kind of information before doing a dev blog (unless you can get one drunk enough to slip it). T
But, there has been pictures released of them with some information (check the battleclinic forums). So from what we know I can tell you the following:
4) will their jump range be the same as a carrier? - Base jumprange is that of a dreadnaught, ie 5 ly.
5) Will there be any slots? something like 1 high, 1 or 2 mids and maybe 1 low. This would allow the fitting of a cloak, which if you have ever flown a freighter in 0.0 is a big sitting duck. (This may be more of a wish list more that an actual question.) - No slots so far. -----------------------------------------------------

Every other jumping ship cant enter empire. If they could, even with reduced cargo hold, they'd probably obsolete regular FT's.
So, my bet is they're purely for 00 logistics. Prolly wont have any modules either, they have even lesser need for them than regular FT's, since they wont need to slow boat it anywhere. ----------------- Friends Forever

I'm less sure. They're going to be noticably smaller. MUCH more expensive, and much harder to fly.
Deep space tranports didn't obselete T1 haulers :) -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

Yea, because they werent worth getting industrial 5, and risking 30mill+ for a measly 2 warp core stabs.
Itty 5 is still bigger too.
This new FT will need to be gimped in teh cargo, or else cyno's will constnatly be going up around empire. Imagine all the rerouting they did around jita, meaning nothing because FT's can avoid 8 jumps. Granted, its not like they're avoiding the purpose of hte reroutes (traffic, lag, congestion) but that means it will be waay faster than a regular FT.
They're going to be low sec/00 only. Alliances would love them to get around camps, POS warfare will be made less strenuous, for sure.
IN addition, imagine having to invent with a FT. Do you lose the ship you put into the inventing job if it doesnt succeed? ----------------- Friends Forever

And great speed. And great agility. And good "tank".

That's a 'blockade runner', different than a deep space transport. ofc, the DST have better everything compared to their t1 versions, its still nothing of note outside the industrial area. ----------------- Friends Forever

I believe someone mentioned something about "measly 2 warp core stabs".
