Ok, so i had been searching the forums for a harbinger setup to take into 0.0 and found a couple. However, i then took it to help someone on recon lvl 2 and discovered that i couldn't kill more than 1 cruiser before having to warp out of the room.
I had 2 setups that i used... and neither worked. I have bc lvl 4 but medium energy turrets lvl 1 (intending to upgrade that as soon as i finish some other skills up)
Drones 5 Hammerheads
Highs 1 tractor beam 7 focused anode medium particle stream
Medium y-58 hydrocarbon 1 afterburners X-5 prototype 1 engine enervators 2 Cap recharger 2's
Lows Medium armor repairer 2 2 EANM 2's 2 HS 2's F-AQ Phase Code Tracking Subroutines
Setup 2 same medium and lows Highs 7 Heavy pulse laser 1's (higher meta's were unavailable where i bought them) 1 Tractor beam
Ok... so it wasn't set up to be able to tank serps... but it still should have been able to deliver some firepower upon them. This however doesn't appear to be the case. I know that lots of people say that Amaar suck, don't use them - but i had no troubles at all with capacitor, and other people said that they were able to kill battleships with similar setups. What am i doing wrong, and or what do i need to change to make this actually work.

Use pulses, small drones, any type of nos, 1 medium repper, 1 tracking computer, 1 cap booster, dual hardeners on the rat type.

improve you gunnery skills ASAP, use hardeners tailored to the mission you're doing (i.e. for sansha missions use EM and thermal hardeners instead of an omnitank like the one you've got). drop the web for either another cap recharger or a tracking computer. drop your tracking enhancer for another hardener, or a cpr if you need it. (another heatsink would also be fine).
also...when using amarr ships for missions, stick to missions vs amarrian racial enemies (blood/sansha), because otherwise you will be extremely frustrated with your lack of damage due to the enemy resists Meatwad FTW |

I run a long-range (sort of) setup because I really hate moving around a lot when I'm the only person in the mission.
Highs: 7x anode heavy beams 1x vampire (knave)
Mids: 1x optical tracking computer 1x f-12 tracking computer 2x cap recharger 2
Lows: 1xMAR2 1x each T2 explosive, kinetic, thermal hardener 1x amarr navy EANM 1x T2 heatsink
Drones: 5x Hammerhead II
Basically it pumps out 334 max DPS and has an okay tank for most L2s and several L3s. The tank would be a lot better than it is if I picked hardeners for missions but I use the ship to blitz low-level missions to build up initial standing in a corporation before I bring in my dominix or drake to handle the heavy (damage) stuff and taking time to swap hardeners takes out time to blitz missions.
Not the most efficient solution and it would be a lot better with a nano pump/accel pair and a CCC rig to help with cap issues and as I like the ship I just might do that.
Mind you that even with electronics 5, engineering 5, weapon upgrades 5, advanced weapon upgrades 3, energy management 4, energy sys op 4, armor compensations to level 2, controlled bursts 4, and most ancillary gun skills and medium energy to level 3 this ship's a tight fit that I could still fly a lot better.
I have exactly .5 CPU and 40 grid to spare on this beast and I can either run my guns or my tank but I can't run both non-stop, at least if I use multifrequency crystals. I figure that if I'm in a bad enough spot in a level 2 mission that I need to run the MAR2 non-stop then I should be running anyways.
So far recon is the only mission that's given me any trouble and that's due to a lot of T2 (or at least cynabals with heavy resistances) cruisers in it.

you have to warp out in a lvl2 mission in your harbinger? sounds a bit like a serious lack of skills to me tbh :) stay beams, they are perfectly fine for pve. might want to consider using the small ones (think u do that anyways, dont ya? still confused with the names of lazors lol) maybe use a cap recharger instead of the tracking thingy in the lows. also consider using rigs: 1 auxiliary nano pump, 2 CCCs work very well for me. 2 EANM should do for lvl2s, but if u have problems go for rat specific hardeners indeed. also: 1 med repper is more than enough, even for lvl3s. ___________

Recon is a mission that you are not supposed to fight - the mission is designed specifically so are forced to warp out. It will spawn more and more highly dangerous ships until you leave. Furthermore, Serpentis have high EM resistance, and you should Focus on doing thermal/kinetic to them (bring 5 medium drones!)
That said, a harb shouldn't be that weak - it is a great ship to run missions in. I run all level 3's except The Blockade vs. Guristas without having to warp out with the following setup:
7x Heavy Beams, meta 4 1x Tractor Beam (entirely optional)
2x Tracking Computer II 2x Cap Recharger II
2x Heat Sink II 2x named EANMs 1x Damage Control II 1x Medium Armor Reppairer II

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 22/10/2007 13:22:39 If I specifically fight Guristas, I sometimes switch to Valkyries to benefit from their slightly better speed and tracking, but most of the times I really can't be bothered to. Hammerheads have the highest raw damage output of all drones, valkyries the second highest. Against Guristas, both end up doing roughly the same damage because Guristas have slightly lower Kinetic than thermal resistance. Against all other targets, Hammerheads will always deal more damage than any other kind of medium drone.

Ok... many of you seem to be missing the point. I built this ship to rat in 0.0 sec space after i got my enyo blown up. I'll be ratting in sansha space, and i wanted to use a ship that i could go out in and stay out there without needing to be resupplied in any way. This is my first time in an amarrian ship, but I've been flying battlecruisers for the past year. With all the other battlecruisers that I've used (drake, brutix, and myrmidon) I could easily breeze through this mission, even if I used all T1 unnamed equipment, even if i had an omnitank on it. So, aside from getting medium energy turret skills up... why what else can I do to make it actually usable. If it can't tank a bunch of cruisers and battlecruisers, how in the world would it actually survive against a 3 bs spawn, much less a 3 cruiser spawn?

Don't know if it is compareble but here is my setup against Sanshas
Quote: N-Type EM Hardener I N-Type Thermic Hardener I N-Type Thermic Hardener I Damage Control II Heat Exhaust System Medium Armor Repairer II
10MN Afterburner II 2* Cap Recharger II Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
7 * Focused Modal Medium Laser I Drone Link Augmentor I
3 * Capacitor Control Circuit I
5 * Vespa II (I like them *g*)
endless cap, realy ENDLESS :). if your energy skills are better then mine (mine are just medium) then you can run a dualrep for close to 15 minutes if needed. 83% EM, 84,4% Therm resitences with my skills (again medium).
the drone upgrades I use mainly becouse I like the range and medium drones have problems against some super fast frigs. You can swap it with a Wepper/Target Painter or whatever you like.
worst case are Mercenaris with it's "we do all sort of damage". Switching the Heatsink to a EANM and turning off the Dronelink it's still something around 73% or better all resi. But you miss a lot of damage and dronerange then :(.

I don't understand how a harbinger can't tank properly. I mean, I can fire seven heavy beam lasers (the largest and thirstiest weapons a harb can mount) continuously, and run the medium repper II continuously as well, and I will be cap stable with any type of ammo except multifrequency (and even then it will all run for like 10 minutes straight). The only scenario in which I cannot keep tanking is when I have so much dps on me that the medium repper just doesn't keep up. Which is sometimes not surprising considering I run a relatively weak omnitank.
Now, if you want to rat Sanshas, the fit with the two thermal and one EM hardeners is the way to go. They'll consume some cap that you won't have to permarun everything, but then again, you on't have to hold out as long fighting three to six belt rats as in a mission room with twenty to thirty adversaries.
If you want, you can fit a capacitor control circuit rig and an auxilliary nano pump rig, which will greatly enhance your cap and your tanking ability. The CCC is rather pricey, though.

...at 8 km tops, with no repping power whatsoever.
That may be a viable PvP glass cannon setup, but a rather horrible setup to post in a ratting ship thread.
