I heard that at one point players were allowed to autopilot within 0m of a gate, but now for some reason CCP changed it to 15km. I would like to say that this really sucks. There is no logical explanation for making autopilot warp within 15km of a gate.
You would think in the 423rd century technology would be advanced enough to allow a ship to autopilot within a close range of a jumpgate and jump. Come on people you know i'm right.
I'm asking CCP to change autopilot so it will warp to within 0m. If that is seriously too much to ask then AT LEAST let us train a skill called "Autopilot", for each level your ship warps 3km closer to a gate and can handle the highly technological demands of warping close to a gate automatically. LOL. AT LEAST GIVE US THE AUTOPILOT SKILL.
I know this may not bother a lot of you, but it bothers me a great deal. I want to be able to autopilot in high sec space within 0m of a jump gate.

Only way I'd like this is if there was a percentage change that you'd crash into the gate at warp speed causing the complete anhilation of your spacecraft and all items in it with no insurance payout due to 'negligience'.

Hehe, stupid new ppl don't even know how it was before warp to 0... and the autopilot warps to 15 because it's like the autopilot in a modern fighter... it takes human maneuvering to avoid a missile or land on an aircraft carrier. Same concept

Oh yea? CCP wants you to play the game? Are you high? Look at the skill training system, it promotes AFK SKILL LEVELING. CCP wants you to be able to go afk and still train your skills. What is the difference between that and going afk while traveling? So your point is moot.
As for human error, you must realize the ships in 423rd century RELY a lot on "Automated" Systems. In the games logics there are systems 98239123 times more complex than a silly autopilot mechanism.
Once again all of your guys statements are illogical.

the warp to 0 thing was instated mainly because space was literally littered with cans people dropped to be able to make bookmarks 15 km behind the gate, (this was called instas by the corp i was in back then)
you had a bookmark list easily comprised of 200 bookmarks, per region. and had to warp to 15km on those to be able to land roughly on the gate.
other than that, i think it's good to give people an advantage if they're willing to make those jumps (i will never AP in 0.0 or low sec) ----------------------------------------------

I'm just getting back from having a long hard cry for you after reading your post. It really tugged at my sympathies. Having to sit through autopilot while you travel 15km really is a deal breaker isn't it?
God if only CCP would give us a feature that would allow us to just warp to 0 on the gate so we wouldn't have to travel that 15 km at each and every system or spend hours of our lives making BM's.

First off, in your original post, you were wrong. That has never been an option.
As to this, in order to progress in this game, you need money. Training skills (gaining levels?) is free. It happens all the time. Any other progress in the game (money, fame, victory, defeat) must be gained through actual gameplay. You must actually PLAY the game to get better. If autopilot were to take you to 0km, there would be no point in people even being at their keyboard (in a newb corp) flying through empire.
AFK playing is basically like those macroers that everyone (rightfully) complains about. No need to make the game that easy.

Sounds logical enough. I mean, it is the 423rd century, sure we have the technology.
On a more serious note, do some research. This has been brought up time and time again. AP to 0 basically makes traders in highsec get rich in half the time, with half the effort. No thanks. If you wanna make your money in highsec trading, either suffer with the time it takes to autopilot between trade hubs, or sit at your damn computer and fly your ship to make your money like a good deal of us do.

Is getting from point A to point B all that rewarding? Sure, you can do some courier missions, but now there are so many sources of passive income it really doesn't matter, the isk from just that would be crap.

Theres a new feature, its called align time. That means that when your ship gets out of a gate, it takes time before can go to warp. If you happen to have an hauler full of esoteric ship data interfaces, you're probably toast. Definitely not risk free.

Shakuul... obviously trading is fun to a niche crowd, otherwise we would all just sit in empire and trade with eachother and give high fives and mad props.
Some people get excitement out of cornering the market and such. To each their own. So they have to suffer through doing the transport to get their fun. I dont like ratting, its boring as ****, but it pays for my pvp. See where I'm going with this?

Trading you can make a great deal of ISK moving items to different places (Which are usually far seperated) which usually means setting your ship to AP and afk-ing for an hour or so, or actually piloting it yourself so you don't get 'd

For pretty much all industrials, the time required to align and warp pales in comparison in the amount of time it takes to close 15km at 100m/s. Also, when hauling really valuable cargo (esoteric ship data interfaces) Use a blockade runner, which can warp as fast as most frigates, as such its pretty much unstoppable without a bubble or if the pilot turn the AP system on.

EDIT: Thought you were talking about in-station trading. Either way, the fun part of trading I would say is buying and selling the items, not moving them (assuming all hi-sec).
You're trying to argue that moving a ship through empire faster than autopilot provides excitement to a niche group of people, akin to combat mission running, npcing, or trading. I simply don't agree. Assuming each subgroup will have a somewhat vocal minority on the forums, I have yet to see the people representing courier mission runners. Even for the few that do exist, they will still have the challenge of coming up with the best route if they want to do multiple courier mission at the same time (which can be decent money apparently).
Its one thing when you're flying through .4 or below with 200mil worth of stuff (why I don't know, but lets say theres fat profits at the end of your trade run or something). This gets my adrenaline going and can be somewhat rewarding if/when you reach the destination. However, unless you are at war (in which case you probably shouldn't be traveling afk), moving through empire, travel is probably one of the most boring aspects of the game. You see the same multicolored gas background, usually don't get a good look at the planets, etc etc. There isn't all that much of interest between System A and System B.

I've only messed around with sit in station trading because I hate moving stuff so much. I think you can still get pirated if you use WTZ constantly.

Sure, id agree that the time pales in comparison. However, certainly in a regular industrial the align time is enough for any half decent suicide ganker to pop you. I haven't tested the align time on transport ships, but they are probably still bumpable and not being there to activate a tank will still hurt.

Unless I'm mistaken, datacores arent all that heavy, plenty of people move them around in interceptors. If you are old enough in eve to be hauling around expensive stuff, upgrade your gear. T2 haulers are a pain in the backside to suicide gank, ask around. Passive tank it and afk your way around if you so choose, you will probably be fine.
Why punish others because you choose to fly t1 haulers with too much money floating around inside them?

Sorry, but you heard wrong. Infact, as I'm sure you've gathered from the usual collection of rude responses that is characteristic of the EVE forums, it's the other way round. You didn't used to be able to warp to 0 at all, you could only warp to 15km, even manually, hence all the instabookmarks people are talking about.
As for why you can't autopilot to 0, well, it's so that the few remaining lowsec pirates in the game still have *some* chance to get targets - people so lazy and stupid that they AFK autopilot through lowsec get ganked, and rightly so.
EVE is about learning things the hard way, it's supposed to be about risk vs reward (although that's been pretty broken for a long time now) and it's supposed to be a harsh, dangerous, cold, dark, scary place. Autopilot-to-0 would remove the last vestiges of that fear and adrenaline, so no, it's never going to happen.

You heard wrong. Prior to Revelations everything was warp to 15km. CCP only added WTZ to get rid of all the instant warp bookmarks that people made to warp right on top of warpgates. This was done mainly because since people were already evading the 15km restriction by jumping manually, making it an official feature didn't change gameplay significantly, and by making all those instas obsolete a lot of server capacity could be freed up. AP was left at 15 because people on AP weren't using instas anyway, and it was considered a fair compromise between on one hand allowing people that warped manually to reduce their travel time and exposure, while on the other not making unattended travel worry free.
Next time, please do not get angry over something just because you heard the wrong version of how a feature was changed. Get your facts straight first. AP never supported WTZ zo complaining about it being changed to that is idiotic.

I'm asking CCP to change autopilot so it will warp to within 0m. I love when newbs think this way. You are missing a fundamental part of EvE. If you hand a 40m sp character to player with no experience and a 10m sp character to a vet the vet will pwn. Player skill is vastly more important than skill points.

RL examples are The Fail. You're talking about a game where you have limited speed in space. You have sound. What about faster than light communication and travel? Since you're arguing realism you have to argue against all these things.

How is anyone punished if you add autopilot WTZ?

Then quit now. CCP never wanted you to be able to play the game on autopilot and you never will.
Chances are you don't remember when warping to 0 was impossible without a hilariously complicated system of bookmarks and are taking the luxury for granted.
Its not a luxury, its a feature that should have been added a long time ago. If you think 'right click> warp to within 0km' constitutes playing EVE, I don't know where you get your idea of fun from.

Edited by: Frug on 22/10/2007 21:50:33 There sure are a lot of pointless annoying stupid trolls flaming newbies in this thread. "OMG the OP must be a moron or a troll because he said he heard autopilot used to wtz" He's a moron or a troll because he hasn't been playing that long? seriously, stfu.
And this comparison that "modern aircraft can't autopilot to land on aircraft carriers or to dodge missiles" is likewise pretty stupid. Modern aircraft CAN land automatically in most situations.
He's making a valid request, and the olbies in here are just showing their stripes flaming like babies.
Also, the new player experience does nothing to explain what warp to 0 is or the fact that AP doesn't do it. At the very least, that needs addressing.

We'll address what needs to be addressed at the time an announcement is announced. You're officially now on a need to know basis, as of yet there's no basis or need for you to know.
In short, stfu>fo.

Okay so either:
A) CCP does not promote AFK play. In which case it is working since you are not as effective as you would be not AFK.
B) CCP does promote AFK play. In which case they gave you a tool that allows you to go AFK it may take slightly longer and more importantly be riskier but they gave you the option.
Either way you look at it CCP will not allow any AFK player to be as effective as one that sits at the PC while playing.
Why are you still reading? Its over. Continue to the next post.
