Nor do I see Low Sec as defined as being a stepping stone to 0.0 - i.e that that is its purpose. Whilst it might be natural for some to view the sec ratings as steps of graduation I return to my earlier point - that the sec ratings produce different style of play: not necessarily harder styles of play.
Low-sec is there to introduce players to the concept of violent and unexpected non-consensual PvP, with little or no protection other than sentry guns, or safety other than stations. In 0.0, they have neither (unless there's a NPC station nearby). Of course, some might dispute the 'sentry gun protection' bit, but for all intents and purposes, it is there. Their effectiveness is not relevant to the discussion, but it's still higher than in 0.0 (non-existent). I'd say that makes low-sec '0.0-lite'. Living in low-sec is easier or harder than 0.0 depending from which perspective you look at it, but it's just a stepping stone.
Originally by: Cailais I think thats evidenced by the wide variety of players experiences in each sec area. Some find an area very rewarding, others do not. I personaly found 0.0 very easy on my wallet, rather dull and a bit of a let down. My experience of Low Sec has often left me near peniless, very exciting and my favourite 'area of Eve.
You got lucky in your 0.0 experience. Had you been actively involved in an alliance conflict, chances are it could be as exciting as low-sec (and no, I'm not talking about POS warfare). My main spends a considerable amount of time in low-sec, and there are days where it's mind-numbingly boring.
Originally by: Cailais I realise I am an eternal optimist in this regard, but Im not going to second guess what CCP will do with a function based upon a hypothetical suggestion.
ECM nerf. RSD nerf. NOS nerf. Upcoming carrier/MS nerf. All came from 'hypothetical suggestions'. See a pattern?
Originally by: Cailais After all dont the Alliances already have a massive influence on the Empire market? The demand for Ore?
The ore market is nothing. It's the T2 production materials that are the real killer and those can't be just 'mined'. That's where the money's at, and guess who has the logistics and resources to control such enterprise?
Originally by: Cailais In addition the 0.0 Alliances have the benefit of a Low Sec 'buffer' zone to weed out the random interloper and stray corp - not so in Low Sec which borders directly onto Empire and would (in my suggestion) have an even more permeable perimeter through smuggling gates.
So, how do you suggest the enterprising small corp or individual can go about obtaining 'untold riches' in low-sec? After all, they'd have no chance to sa***uard their investments if low-sec was as porous as you're arguing it is.
Originally by: Cailais As for combat boosters I think you underestimate the intelligence of your fellow players, theyre not in use much because there hasnt been time for an established trading base to become a reality - theyre not readily available: thats very different to saying people dont/wouldnt use them.
They're not available because they're extremely hard to produce, and require (*gasp*) low-sec installations (drug labs) to create. If there was a market for them (like rigs, for example), they'd be widely used. As is, their cost makes them prohibitive to only the very few who either obtain them from fellow alliance members, where they're much more common. So far, I've only seem them being used by people like BoB.
Originally by: Cailais Assasintation contracts and T3 dont exist
"Assasintation contracts" == bounties. You get X if you pod player Y, simple as that. T3 - not needed, as T2 is yet in its infancy due to invention. When the time is right, CCP will bring it out.
I think you have missed the point about alternative ideas, discussing the points.
Arguing details can be very useful, saying no simply because you donÆt understand, or want change, is not the same. And is seems like you are saying ôNO!ö simply because you donÆt want a change. At least thatÆs how I read your posts.
As far as assassination contracts, a I read that as a personal wardec, the contract for a price, on top of or replacing the bounty, allowing one player to have kill rights to another player. I would say that issuing one of these contracts should have a fairly high ôtaxö (read Bribe) so that you donÆt see a billion of them pop up whenever one pirate wants free rights to a newbie. This means the one accepting the contract gets to kill the target, free and clear, and then can collect a prize. I think this a very good way to counter piracy as it is now. Because currently, no one can attack the pirates or CONCORD will intervene
