It never ceases to amaze me how someone kicks a kitten and their is this international uproar, but if the kitten was replaced with a pig, you'd never know, or care.

Chavs ******* **** me off sometimes im telling you.
A pig is slightly larger than a kitten, though i think if i kicked a pig my foot would probably just get stuck.
Being horrible to animals is not necessary, and an article on the bbc website doesn't count as international uproar. --------------------------------------------

Well, it would be a baby pig. But fine, just imagine an animal that isn't "cute".
I'm not condoning it or anything, it is just another one of those double standard things we've got going on.

I would. But that's because I'm a super Vegan leftist nut-job.
But it hardly makes the news if it isn't a cat, a dog, a bunny, or something else of a similar nature.

On a semi-related note, my local animal shelter just got overloaded with dogs. They were brought over from Oregon after a lady was charged with animal abuse. We received over 150 dogs (from one person). I took a peek the other day and now I wish I hadn't because it was just sad seeing the shape most of them were in. Theres a huge probability that most of them will be put down.

Probably because they are a food animal. If you look at conditions that many livestock deal with it certainly borders on cruelty (if they raised dogs like they do chickens or transport cats like they do cows those people would be thrown in jail).
Nonetheless if I saw you drop kicking any animal, even ugly ones, I'd kick your ass (if you are bigger than me I'd hit you with a log or something).
As to the woman in the OP she needs more than a suspended sentence. She needs mental help. Seriously. People who show cruelty to animals like that are people who grow to be child abusers or serial killers.

No I laughed a bit too... It reminded me of a kitten we used to have. On morning it was jumping on my hands moving under the covers while I was half sleeping. I went to rub my face and that ******* cat jumped on my face (she hadnt figure out how to retract her claws) I gave that cat flying lessons! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Yup, because a domesticated cat has no physical ability to eat anything larger than a ~rabbit and in turn has no push to do such a thing. Also taking in account the fact that cats are likely the oldest companion to humans when it comes domestication, since they practically domesticated themselves. They rely on human civilization and even when given the ability to reenter the wild return to live near us. It doesn't take long for a house cat, or even stray outdoor cat, to consider a human as part of its social group, if not a replacement for its mother, after enough displays of affection. The sharing of excess prey is quite a sign where domestic cats put their human owners in their social structure. --------

Dogs and humans have similar social structures; we both move in small to medium groups (ie. family units), headed usually by a dominant male (re: father). As such, I think there is a basic understanding between man and dog. This can be seen if anyone has ever had to discipline their family pet; the minute someone "barks" (re: yells) louder than them, and strikes an intimidating pose, most dogs submit rather quietly. Ever try that with a cat? No dice.

It probably would if it could. Cats have no respect for human life. You really think your cat would opt for its bowl of kibble if it thought there was a chance it could eat you instead?
Theres a reason why dog is man's best friend

Dogs and humans have similar social structures; we both move in small to medium groups (ie. family units), headed usually by a dominant male (re: father). As such, I think there is a basic understanding between man and dog. This can be seen if anyone has ever had to discipline their family pet; the minute someone "barks" (re: yells) louder than them, and strikes an intimidating pose, most dogs submit rather quietly. Ever try that with a cat? No dice.

German shepards are a good sturdy dog, my grandparents have one to guard our farm, and I'm quite surprised at her intelligence. Cats do however have a purpose, though have since been fazed out of use due to other methods. They are exceptionally good at pest removal, be they insects, rodents, etc. Back when you could get a deadly disease by having mice running around your house, a cat was all but necessary.

But up until a year ago the cat did serve a purpose too of rodent control. Back in his prime he'd kill more ina week than the whole family could in a year including a rabbit once that we witnessed as he pulled it over a fence. Since we lived in the city at the time I'm pretty sure that was somebodies pet. He seems to have retired as of late but the cats almost 17 although he still get the occassional lizard or baby bull snake.

Yeah I remember now when I was a kid we used to have a cat that could catch all sorts of rodents. I dont think she ever caught a rabbit, but I remember she used to catch hummingbirds which really ****ed my mom off! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. It was more the terrain and number of hummingbirds we had (probably about 20 or 30 at anyone time.) The feeders hung on a overhang over the sliding glass door and on an apple tree to which its branches were close to the roof. She could sit up there all day and time them as they flew by and snatch them out of the air in mid jump and land on the apple tree branch. Which is wierd because when she tried it with the hummingbirds hovering by the feeder, they would easily move 6 inches out of the way. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Probably because they are a food animal.
Wonder how cultures where dogs are considered a food would see it? Genuine question, so if anyone does come from a culture when dog is considered a food rather than a pet, could they please let me know
