1. What do you use your carrier for? Name all the activities you use it for (ALL activities).
Frontline gang/fleet support Capital killing (in capital gangs) Logistics NOT acting as a solopwnmobile (suicide)
2. How much support do you feel you should need when you field your carrier for combat when going against a gang of 3? A gang of 5? A gang of 10? A gang of 50?
Depends - if the gang know what they are doing, a gang of 5 could kill me. All they need is a lachesis to damp me down and put me out the fight, plus enough DPS to break my tank. Killing my fighters removes my DPS for the most part. Carriers suck at solo combat an unsupported carriers are killed daily, its an expensive mistake for many new carrier pilots.
3 - Might try solo but would be nervous (and would only do it in dock range) 5 - I'd want 2 support at least 10 - I'd want 5 support 50 - I'd want other capitals supporting me + a large support gang
3. Do you think you should be able to go 1 vs 5 and win? How about 1 v 10? In other words, how many people do you believe you should be able to kill alone taking ship types into consideration. How many BS/BC's/Cruisers/Etc?
Carriers cannot reliably take on 1 v 5 and win right now, and I think thats about right. If the enemy knows what they are doing, you are as good as dead the moment the fight starts. Carriers are support ships and they need support fleets (which is why the proposes changes are pointless imo).
4. Do you believe that you should be able to kill a large amount of ships simply because you spent a lot of money and skill time for the ship, regardless of it's designed role (this does not just include carriers)?
Well, there needs to be a payback on the investment, but motherships in lowsec are just annoying - either let us drop dictor bubbles in lowsec to counter them, or remove them from lowsec. As for carriers - they are not solopwnmobiles - anyone who thinks they are either has not flown one, or lost one to a small roaming gang of competent PvPers.
5. Do you believe carriers have too little (solo) firepower, too much, or just enough?
Well its quite poor compared to their cost, less than close range gank battleships... BUT then they have other uses which make up for that, they are pretty balanced as they are.
6. What do you believe a carriers role is?
1) Frontline support for combat gangs 2) Logistics
7. Do you believe the carrier achieves this role through it's current abilities?
yes, I do think they are pretty balanced... you only have to look at how many carriers are lost to see that risk/reward is in full effect.
8. What would you change about the carrier if this drone change came into effect? Increased Repair Range? Increased Repair Amount? A Triage buff to allow control of the 5 fighters/drones you're able to deploy? The ability to control 5 additional fighters/drones if Triage Mode is activated? Less Cap needed for self rep/remote rep? (add what you believe would be a change worthy of the suggested drone change)
I have to take issue with this.
The change is made on the assumption that it will incease support participation. But carriers are not, and never have been, solopwnmobiles. An unsupported carrier is a dead carrier. They already rely heavily on support.
So I just don't understand why this change is needed in the context of the justifications given so far, and to that end I'm not going to answer that question.
