my thoughts exactly, that is why i dislike elite frigates, honestly it's just more treadmilling for something that should be in the game to begin with, frigates need a purpose, a tactical role, as do cruisers
the current pvp system favors nothing more than battleship slugfests, i want more tactics, i want formations, i want more to eve combat than lock and shoot. ------

What the H3LL is wrong with you? If I have to start paying for food and gas in EVE I am quitting this stupid game. Life should be cheap in EVE, so should ships and insurance. That might get people to actually fight more. This is a pvp game, not a RL simulator. Should we have to pay for oil changes in our ships every 3000 miles to? Jesus.

Rifter and Kestrels still have an amazing amount of damage output. Until TL2 variants that are damage specific come about, they'll still have uses. After that, they can prolly be relegated to the same role as peasants in Medieval: Total War. Cheap, unskilled damage units to fill out the ranks.

Ok before this crops up, this CSM was short because of a confusion on the Devs part (they thought it was tomorrow and arrived late), moderation troubles (Pann usually moderates) and of course we got a bit side tracked as was to be expected. This can all be expected when a Community Manager leaves so unexpectantly as seems to be the case.
Lets hope we get a proper CSM next time with a new CM, Kieron. Because I have plenty of questions.

Because everyone and their mother's brother's uncle's grandfather's niece's cousin's ex-roomate has or can get a Kestrel and making the Kestrel a bomber would provide nothing new to strive for.

And no you are not to blame simply for other people's comments - but for when you milk them without correction.

Wait till people see the reqs on elite cruisers and elite battleships. The point of the reqs on all the T2 ships and equipments is so that everybody and their brother CAN'T use them all. Is there anything whatsoever special about flying around in an apoc, scorp, or other BS other than the fact you got alot of money?
How many combat pilots out there have high gunnery skills, can fly several different battleships, have high engineering, high electronic war fare, high mechanic and electronic skills? Every combat pilot out there is the bloody same as the next. That means tactics will always be the same.
The same is being done for T2 gunnery skills, they requiring specializations to use the better weapons. Example of Small Lasers > Small Laser Beam Specialization, Small Laser Pulse Specialization. Yah thats alot more skills and much more opportunity to define your character rather than being the same as the next guy.
As the tech lvls increase so will the need to specialize your character even more to what you want them to be. If you want to pilot every T1 ship and use any T1 modules... Great, but don't be surprised when a guy piloting some High Tech (T4+) specialized Frig will Toast your BS.

I can spot a problem with that. Currently, there is no official "way" to tell what will happen in 6 months (no plans, no guidelines, no roadmap etc). Im not saying thats necessarily a bad thing, but look, we are talking about specialization, something that requires planning.
Making ppl believe that they need to specialize in something that might change completely in 1 month is kinda stupid. There is no point in specialization, since most players will try to be the best at a specific area. But there are no "areas": there is simply an overall understanding of a principle and then everyone and their dog train for that.
... but that principle changes from major patch to major patch and that kills the purpose with specialization, since the skills required to achieve proper focus require weeks of training.
If you need an example of that, look at DCM. Require a *low* level of specialization with no return. As I can see, future skill paths will require much more effort than training 2 chained skills to 5.
The idea around (as I understood from the devs) is that specialization will be something so deep and important that will define your char permanently.
But how can I decide what is better for me without proper info ? Will I need to "guess" ? Im not in the gambling game, thats why I don't boost RD missions too much.
I want to have a basic information do decide wether or not / where I want or not to specialize in something, and not simply making a decision that can potentialy be a bad idea in 2 or 6 months and render my char useless for some purpose I want without any chance to catch up, because something changed in the game that rendered my efforts useless. It already happened, and further recurrences will have deeper consequences.
Also, I noticed that things are getting balanced because there wasn't much thought about the upcoming releases. Let's say that before castor, a specific module gives you an X bonus, and that the top offmarket related module gives you X*1.4. Now, with TL2, it appears that there is a general idea that the default market module needs to be something better than the best TL1 offmarket one.
I think some of you already got where we are going.
I was discussing this issue with some corp mates last night and it really bothers me. So, when TL3 or 4 hits the game, there will be modules that will be utimately uber ^ 10.
What I ask is, please, pay more attention to these issues, because constant nerfing of things on a tumbling across basis really ****es people off. For the trollers, don't come with the old "overcome and adapt". There are basic things that must NOT change, and people actually decide things based on those.
Finding out that you made a bad decision because you are a bad strategist is one thing, you overcome, learn, adapt, but finding out that your decision was useless because you were not able to guess what would change in the next patch is another story.
Chaos ? I will not mention it any further; there are 40k subscribers out there, that simply won't fit in a 32 capped server
Trying to keep this post a single one, I would like to talk about personalization. There aren't any levels of personalization in eve. The most you can do is "sort by name" or "sort by type" in your hangar, put names on ships that only your security officers will see, name cans that are used to litter space around newbie stations and jumpgates, or create your char *once*, never touch it again and only be able to see other ppl great work if you right click them and capture their protrait.
People want a place they would call home, not a standard background in stations with a 1-size-fits-all approach. People want to personalize their ships, change the environment around them, do plastic surgeries, maybe even rent a room in a station where they can read the news, write a diary, log into a global trade network or access the stock market. Thats a long shot, but Im sure you can think of a lot of cool things to personalize and leave your "StealthNet was here".
Ill end this, or Ill keep writing into the night _______________________________________________

had some bad thoughts after this remark as soon as i left the computer. but i was commenting my first thoughts after reading the log. the pure fact that the event was held in empire space killed any "open end". if you read torfi s comments on it carefully ("we didn t expect players to show up" <--> "not ... decided")you will notice that they make little sense. events need to be planned if you want players to have some influence. you need to pre-decide what kind of actions will have what kind of effect. what they do makes little sense, and what they tell about it afterwards simply isn t the truth.

NCSoft is also doing City of Heroes......
by the way, the new insurance thing is fine. whatever brings in and keeps new people playing is a good thing. As many have said, they play games to have fun....not to pretend they have another full time job. ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004

I said this before. They should have the ability to test on chaos as a seperate pgm for down load. it would do everything for you. The login should know if you are coming from live or test. --------------------------

Quote: had some bad thoughts after this remark as soon as i left the computer. but i was commenting my first thoughts after reading the log. the pure fact that the event was held in empire space killed any "open end". if you read torfi s comments on it carefully ("we didn t expect players to show up" <--> "not ... decided")you will notice that they make little sense. events need to be planned if you want players to have some influence. you need to pre-decide what kind of actions will have what kind of effect. what they do makes little sense, and what they tell about it afterwards simply isn t the truth.
No need to defend your opinion about the storyline and it's implementation. You are right. Lies and very poor performance on that aspect of tha game.
If you go back to all the previous CSMs and even all the way back to the very beginning and statements they made concerning the storyline you 'll see that lies is far from inappropriate.
Basically the inability to interact with the world, the factions and the story in a convincing way destroys the immersiveness this game could provide.

thx juan. and very well said.
my excuse was mostly because i knew i should have explained myself better as it looks like one can simply not expect ppl to think about what they read.
the general scheme behind events looks like this to me:
1. there s the general claim that events happen regularly (weekly!) and that players have a stong influence on them and storyline.
2. then comes the down-play phase. any (rare) event happening is done by aurora, polaris, players or the graphic department. it s not a "full" event, only "little resources could be invested", real thing upcoming soon. (this is mostly to excuse for the rather regular trouble in holding them as well as the restricted number of participants)
3. in the aftermath (year overview, newsletter) this very same happenings show up as major events again, all limits seem to be forgotten.
i completly agree, something very different is necessary to make the world of eve feel alive.
oh and btw, again this "most important feedback" to the devs is lingering at 3 pages. sad.

To the best of my knowledge (I'm in it) it is. Expect a new topic by MOO when it starts.
